I was born in Norwich and grew up there in the 70's and 80's and moved out late 80's the summer going into my junior year of high school as my dad took a job transfer to Cheshire, CT.( still can't forgive him for that) and haven't been back to Norwich since. Even though I'm planning my first trip there this summer of 2023 for a long three day weekend and just walk the streets again as I hear it has changed much since the 70's and 80's. Oddly enough my family moved out of Connecticut the night I graduated from high school just hours after going up on stage to get my diploma. Haven't been back there either since I graduated as I didn't even live there two years and could care less if I ever go there again as Norwich was my true home.

I'd never thought I'd see my home town in its heyday. In recent years, businesses have failed and there's just less and less in Norwich. I'm glad I moved, because of how dilapidated and boring it is now. But here, it looks like Norwich once flourished back in the day, and there town seemed eventful and promising. I really wish it stayed this way or expanded and grew.

The Copper Kettle was my favorite little shop to visit when I was a kid in the 70's. And ate many subs from Doug's.

I was born in Norwich in 1973, graduated from high school there in 91 and haven’t lived there since. I think the last time I visited was 97. I long to go back and be in the place where my memories come from. Hopefully, within the next few years I can make a trip “home” a reality.

A lot has changed so much since 97... Changed not for the better. It's nothing compared to what it was in 97. Cherish your memories... Because Norwich is nothing compared to what you remember. Sadly. I remember going to Norwich in the 90's with my grandparents. Was a decent town. Now a lot of business has left and it's super ran down. And drugs... Norwich has a huge drug problem. I remember going through Norwich a few years ago and I seen a homeless guy pulling a box around with him. Guess it was his home? Looked like he was on meth or something. Im sorry to have to tell you this. I wish Norwich could be what it was in the 90's even.... So sad to see it the way it is now. It's not the Norwich I knew as a kid. I'd like to point my finger at who is to blame... But I'm not sure who that is. Politicians? Maybe its the politicians. Or the drug problem. Or both. To be fair.... All of CNY is ran down and a lot of businesses have left. Few have moved in but a lot has left too. So it's not just Norwich. I mean Norwich and CNY isn't Detroit or something. But it's not what it was 20+ years ago either.

Carl Michael thank you for the insight. I’ve heard rumblings similar to what you’ve just told me. Very sad to learn that this seems to be the reality. Hopefully, it’s just a small cycle and will once again regain some type of prominence. I’m guessing Norwich will have to experience some sort of influx of occupational opportunities to achieve that, tho. Again, thanks for the insight!

@@brandonin_ny You're welcome. I hope so. Sadly the whole area has seen a sharp decline over the last few decades. Any luck at all something will give and new opportunities will open up. I hope...

I remember there was a Fays drugs in both the north end of town and in the south plaza too! I first came to Norwich in 1971 after my family moved to Greene from Ct. We would come to Norwich to shop at Jamesway Dept store. It was a very large sucessful town then with lots of stores of a huge variety. Everything from sporting goods to furniture to clothing.

What year is this from? I lived in Norwich as a child from 75-81. I remember the Corner Cigar Store. My Dad used to take me there to buy candy and comic books. I see from Google Maps it's been a deli for a while.
