To bad I'm not nearby. I can weld that crack up for you. By the way. Pull one plug out and start the engine with the drill. Maybe on cylinder running will help loosen up the junk in the exhaust trap.

If you put fiberglass cloth in the JB weld it becomes much stronger and the cloth prevents the cracking. I never use JB weld without fiberglass cloth. Try it, you will like it!

Looks like you got pressure back rings hence the higher compression. Still check lower cylinder too for ring movement. I would pull the head and check corrosion around the cylinders (delamination of aluminum from cast iron) which causes out of round upper cylinders. Usually occurs seen it many,many times making it hard to pull. Time the pull starter and replace that nylon pawl.....I would change the block half or get original tig welded to keep it an aligned original front & back casting. Can be done but your two tapered pins probably wont line up may get lucky I recently matched one up pin wise from about 15 blocks I had .. You know Its lined bored as an assembly.. Anyhoo Just sharing the Gospel of outboards with Ya ! HA! Good Luck!

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Yeah those loose headbolts could be a red flag who knows.Pull it hopefully its good on the corrosion front and roundness.....Wasnt sure in your video if you have those pressure back rings hard to see on my end maybe just the two thin ones...pressureback rings came out in 1972 production year along with two thin regular rings ..All replacement pistons & rings after 1971 were pressure back till the end of those motors run in 1976..I should write a book before I leave this planet I think,LOL!!!

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Would I risk losing a pal?No chance,Haha.No leads on the plugs and an ovenight soak.Outboard exhaust flush. (Manchester UK)
@stanwilson80897 ай бұрын
A blockage in the exhaust will act like an exhaust brake that they use on trucks.If the motor spins without the plugs then it's not the rings.The high compression will be caused by the blockage in the exhaust system.Maybe flushing the exhaust and then blasting it with compressed air will clear it.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD17 ай бұрын
Hey Stan. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah rings looked good, right, high comp due to blockage in exhaust, said that, yeah thats why I'm trying to start it to help flush/blow it out and clear it which did work a little if I could keep it running. Once I tear it down I'll be able to see more. Thanks again & Stay Tuned !

Maybe try to start it with only 1 plug in?? I suspect that drill should spin it fast enough to catch. If it starts, let it warm up, then try with 2 sparklers.
