Sorry about the length of this one. I struggled quite a bit, but wanted to let you see how to fix some of those issues if you have them yourself. Part 2, where I embellish it a little bit will be posted in a few days. I hope you like them both! I think I forgot to mention in the video, but I used 12 in. x 12 in. Grafix opaque white craft plastic for this one. Hope you enjoy!

Lorri this is beautiful. ! I think you should not stress about how long the video goes. If people don’t want to watch it until the end well then they can say bye bye. I quite enjoy them. If it is long “ oh well” :) If I have to be somewhere I can come back to it and watch the rest later. No biggie. Don’t stress girl! Your doing great! Lol

Thank you so much! Lol I still haven't decided if I'm going to give her (or our daughter at this point lol) this one or not. I like the way it turned out, but the colors aren't quite what they are doing her nursery in. I may end up doing another one with some brighter colors. Maybe I'll figure out what I want to do before she's born in June lol! 💜😊

😊 People get to see plenty of unplanned issues from me lol. I agree with you, though. How can you learn if you don't see how to fix problems that come up that everyone is going to have occasionally? Lol My favorite analogy is the dog herding sheep. That one gave me a good laugh and is so very apt! 💜💜

This is just beautiful. I love watching you create your inspiring pictures and am totally hooked on alcohol ink art!! Have you ever used a turntable to help when rotating the paper? I’m thinking of purchasing one but would value some advice.
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the compliment! I have a turntable, but I never use it lol. One reason is it raises my paper up too high, but the biggest reason is because I want to be able to pick up my paper to tilt and move in different ways sometimes. I can't do that if it's attached to a turntable, but it will blow off if I don't tape it. Some people really love using one, though, so if you think you would like one I'd say go for it. Check second hand stores for a used one until you know if you are going to like using it, then you aren't out so much money if you don't like it and don't have any other uses for it. 💜💜

This is beautiful. Cant wait to see part two!! Do you wear a mask when using the inks or how do you ventilate the area? I live where it is winter and opening a window is not always feasible. I recently over did it and had some side effects next day after using the inks and alcohol.

Thank you very much! I have a respirator with P-100 filters that I use if I know I am going to be painting for a long time. The room I use is very well ventilated with 2 ceiling vents and I use a fan to keep the air moving around. Plus, it has doors on 2 sides so I can get a good fresh air flow coming through when I leave them both open. I can't use my respirator when I am videoing, though, or no one could understand me lol. I have had some headaches thanks to long sessions with the doors closed before getting a respirator. It's something I would definitely recommend, especially if you don't have good ventilation. 💜💜

@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! These are about 2 - 2 1/2 inches each. I have done them smaller before, though. You just need to use one drop or so of ink and less alcohol than I did to create the petals. Lol Don't worry about struggling! Me struggling was the whole reason this video was so darn long! I hadn't done flowers like these in quite a while and I had almost forgotten how I did them lol. 💜💜

I tried severl times to make a small flower, with no success (sigh) I almost got one, and then accidently put down too much alcohol. I will try again another day...
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 3 жыл бұрын
Hang in there, you’ll get it. I did the exact same thing in this video lol. It’s hard to use such small amounts of alcohol and still get the ink to move the way you want it to. For me, I also tend to forget I’m working on something small because I do it so seldom and put down the normal amount of alcohol I would use on a bigger area lol. Just try to relax and have fun with it! That’s usually when I can do my best work. 💜💜

Do you prefer Pinata brass instead of Tim Holtz Gold mixative? what's the difference
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 3 жыл бұрын
I do prefer the Pinata brass for the style of painting that I usually do. It tends to float on top of the ink/alcohol and move much better than any metallic that I have tried. The Ranger metallics, and even the other Pinata metallic colors, tend to sink and stick to the surface making it difficult to impossible to get them to leave those fine lines and veins that I like in my paintings. 💜💜

Don’t let yourself get discouraged as you start out. It will take plenty of practice to get results that you are happy with. It looks easier than it really is when you are watching a video of someone who has a couple of years of practice behind them. You can, and will, get the hang of it so don’t give up, even if you hate your results during your first days of practice. I threw away plenty during my first days and still do now on occasion lol. Have fun with it and don’t be too hard on yourself! 💜💜

Are your inks mixed with isopropyl?
@LorrieBrewer

I do not mix my inks with isopropyl in the bottle. They only get mixed on the paper once I put them out on it. 💜

Do you always use just 99% alcohol? Have you ever tried to add a bit of glycerine to it ?
@LorrieBrewer

I prefer to use straight 99%, but some people put a little glycerin in theirs. It makes it a little more like blending solution and is supposed to keep it from drying so quickly. I don't like blending solution, though, so I never put glycerin in my alcohol. It's just a matter of personal taste. You might give it a try and see if you like the way the inks move with it. I don't know the exact ratios people use, but I would do maybe 4 or 5 drops of glycerin for one applicator bottle of alcohol (just guessing though!). 💜😊

You mostly blow the ink towards you and cover the work with the dryer, but still great video

I am sorry about that! I try to keep the dryer out of the way as much as I can, but I know it's hard for you to see sometimes. I need to get a small, tabletop stand for my phone. That might keep the angle more under the dryer rather than behind it. Thank you for watching! 💜💜
