People act like pretty much every band doesn’t eventually start writing riffs that sound the same as stuff they’ve already done. All of them do that unless they’re exploring new genres - but when Metallica does that, people bitch about it! I think Rob Zombie said something like Sabbath has already written every metal riff, everyone else is just slowing it down or speeding it up or playing it backwards.

I dont care about riff recyclement but i would like them to have as good transitions from one part to the other as they are known for. I understand they cant do the same speed they were capable of back in the day, I get that they dont have the aggression, im completely fine with that, I just wish they had mid tempo quality gems like leper, harvester and such... (the majority on 72 is too long for no reason, almost every song has a really killer riff but instead of continue or structure the songs around them they just 'say a hello' with them for ten seconds and move on to a generic riff or insert a totally strange not so well fitting interlude and drag the song out, they should build upon the good riffs most of the songs as i said had plenty of room considering the length of em)

72 seasons. The first 18 years of your life. I thought to myself before the album came out, the band would use this example of evolution with the songs on the album. They’ve used parts and similarities from previous albums from start to finish on 72 seasons. It’s like they’ve gone through the growth and change of the band. I think it’s genius and a great album. There's people that don't like that they did this. I'm not one of them. I love it. They're reflecting on their past and I think its awesome. There's more spots on the album, too. Examples: Lux directly quotes Motorbreath "full speed or nothing" and has a similar chord progression in the verse. The Too Far Gone? intro riff is like a slower version of the Hate Train breakdown riff. Inamorata's breakdown section has an eerily similar vocal delivery on "she needs me, I need her more" as Unforgiven 3's "forgive me, forgive me not" breakdown, even culminating in a similar kind of buildup and high note shout.
@midnight347

Too far gone main riff sounds like no remorse 2.0 that was one of the first ones that stood out to me when I listened. I think it's cool too. Just because the riffs are similar don't mean they just "copied and pasted" the album like the haters act like lol. I think this album is great I put it even with dm as best album top to bottom since black. I would put it slightly ahead just because of the production. If production was equal I'd say it's a tie with dm. I love the stuff they been doing man why can't we just be thankful they aren't doing st anger stuff anymore lol. Glad that was a 1 time thing.

Agreed on all points here my Metal family. Great production, nods to other songs, Rob’s bass is great. As I understand 72 seasons is a book that tells a story about the number of seasons that a person has to get through to reach the adult age, and I find logic this album uses some old stuff to try to tell THIS IS HOW I GET TO BE HERE... Its good that youve found the similarities, which conclude you as the hard core fans... Yeap its similar and also wonderful that while aging, they still makes punchy music, still headbang 😊

Beyond those specific parts, the entire album has a 90s vibe , be it _Black Album, the Loads, Garage Inc._ and it's what I like about it, it's also the reason others don't like it.
@natedog8281
@natedog8281 Жыл бұрын
No the album is mostly a callback to their 80s material, there’s really only 3 songs on this album that feel like that came from the 90s. HTSD is more of a callback to their 90s stuff

@@natedog8281 To split hairs, there are reminiscences of all Metallica eras, but the guitars definitely sound like the 90s.

@@santiagobeneth8543 correct, they’ve been using a similar guitar tone since Load, so everything is going to sound like that era, but the actual riffs and the song composition is all similar to the songs they wrote in the 80s

If you liked all this, you'll love that the kick drum pattern on Room of Mirrors at 1:21 is nearly an exact match to the kick drum pattern at 11:46 in the song Exist by Avenged Sevenfold.

Yeah...kinda. At the same time it's a very basic kick drum pattern and you could probably find it in a plethora of music if you look for it.

well that's clearly why this album is already showing signs of great success. Every song the riffs however FEEL similar they maybe? CLEARLY different enough to stand on their own to ME! But if it gives people the feels of the songs you compared them to in this its a sure sign success for yet another album that will stand the test of time.. 72 Seasons is a GREAT album LOVE it more everyday was a BLAST to play bass on all 12 already... Thanks for the mash up \m/ #HornsUp \m/

It's also literally the same exact as Enter Sandman's main riff just moved down a string.

@@MetJamesK You can say that about most of their riffs. Cure, Slither, That Was Just Your Life, Here Comes Revenge, and a few of the new songs all use that mode. But the riff I'm talking about is literally Cure, even the drums and bass
