[720p/50p] Channel 4 | Big Breakfast *MISSING* edition! | 12th July 1999

Still continuing this theme of Saturday morning TV to mark reaching 5000 subscribers, if you preferred your morning TV to be of the "Channel 4" variety, here's some Big Breakfast!
Now, I don't normally upload anything from this era of Channel 4, but I know that the majority of Big Breakfast editions are missing believed wiped, including this one!
(I heard on the rumour mill that some kind of admin error when the tapes were sent by Planet 24 Productions to a facility for archive migration to newer formats resulted in the tapes of most episodes accidentally being consigned to waste before having copies made on newer formats! Channel 4 kept few copies of episodes as their contract with P24 Productions was that P24 would keep the tapes of the show!)

Thanks for uploading this. Interesting to see that Ch4 showed the full credits to Sesame Street on this occasion. Remember in 1998 seeing it more than once in the lunchtime slot without any credits

One take away from all this is LOOK how much colour there is from all of it ! Sesame street , the holly oak advert , the big breakfast it's self , so much colour it's not glum and bland and uniform. Today is literally just broken. Although to be honest I've not watched a TV in 10 years so I don't know 😂

Kelly seems actually quite good at what she did. I think most people didn't like her because she wasn't Denise. Let's remember this is a young person. A 20 year old. I'm looking back now and realising that I was judging her harshly.

Kelly Brook was too inexperienced at that point in her career to hold such a prominent role. It was the fault of the producers for giving her the role rather than hers herself. Shan was such a Sharp and outspoken personality... Brook asked the most fluffy and dull questions. She didn't even do enough research to distinguish Alysia Milano from Tori Spelling (they look nothing alike).. Shan looks visibly unimpressed. She was generous and patient with KB though.. to her credit.

When you say missing do you mean it's missing from the archive? ITN source who hold the shows master tapes are trying to track down private copies of the show that they don't have. I myself provided them with 19 editions that were previously lost. If this is one of them I'm sure they would like to hear from you.

I think Kelly did a Stirling job for her first major TV appearance. Just think how nerve racking that must have been for her. I mean, you can tell by her nipples that were showed every morning. So personally, I thought she did okay, she was beautiful and was good to start your day off with before you went to work or school etc.

I think watching big breakfast in 2024/25 will be my new thing lol. When tv was just good without the self censorship. So far Kelly has done a Philippines impression, Johnny has done a native American impression, Johnny has rubbed Kelly's bood and admitted it and P Diddy is about to come on 😅

@@si002 that doesn't really make sense as she was still getting on with him when she knew she was leaving, and she came back to the big breakfast for a bit in 99, and went and presented a radio show with him in 2008. Wiki says it was 2011 when she fell out with Johnny Vaughan when she left capital radio

@@ef1265 she went public a number of years ago with the reason. Johnny Vaughn decided to renegotiate his contract separately from Demise when their contracts were up for renewal. She felt they had both turned the show around as a team and should jointly renegotiate their contracts (the same way the friends cast had).. When Johnny went behind her back, the friendship became strained. She decided to leave. She still maintains she's very fond of Johnny and has worked with him a number of times since. The show never really found its footing again after Denise left. Her instincts were correct. Their joint onscreen dynamic was the magic behind the success with audiences.

The problem with the JV era of the show was that it was just so underproduced compared to the Chris & Gabby days. 90% of the show is done from the living room and just lacks the creative innovation that the early years had. It became boring and predictable.

We forget though that when JV was on it was immensely popular so they built the show around his banter with Denise. When Denise left his act wasnt as popular with his other co-hosts and was never the same show.

Why? 1) Sesame Street is commercially available, which is something I avoid uploading. 2) Sesame Street is crap anyway. 3) Big Breakfast is actually much better than it. 4) due to an error on Planet 24’s part, thousands of Big Breakfast editions - including this one - were wiped in error, which is why I’ve uploaded this. There’s far more pop culture history in Big Breakfast than there is in sodding Sesame Street! 5) it’s “should have” or “should’ve” in short form. And 6) you are an adult, why would you want see a kids show with no hidden adult appeal like Sesame Street? That’s a bit weird!!!

It's often the same with TV shows. Once you start messing around with the format it's never the same. While Johnny and Denise etc were good, Chris and Gaby were the best.
