I hauled road construction equipment for one season. I do like to learn and it was a pretty sharp learning curve to learn to operate an excavator, grader, paver, Gomaco and several different rollers, base and pavement both. I learned that when securing anything with pneumatic tires it's a good idea to cross the chains, i.e. right side of equipment to left side of trailer etc. On the skidders with tracks that kind of doesn't apply. Believe it or not the hardest to load was a pavement roller with five foot high rollers with no brakes. You had to drive like hell until you were on the deck then back plug so you didn't ram the step. Back plug too much and you backed off the trailer. The paver could be fun when the crew didn't maintain oil levels. The steering is hydraulic so when the oil gets too low it affects the steering. Problem is the right track starves before the left one and you find yourself sideways on the trailer. I'm retired now but it's still fun to watch a good driver.
