I am glad the video brought back memories of your first car. In fact, my dad bought the car in the video in 1984 for $150, but it was wrecked and needed to be repaired. I was ten years old at the time and helped dad lift the hood back on the car, but I did not do really well due to the hood's weight. Dad hollered a lot that day, but the hood was finally installed. Thank you for watching.

@@MrAamstrom I was 17, bought the car from an old lady in another town from us, had no battery so I used my Dad's truck battery to get it home. That car could move! Your video brought back a lot of memories! When you started the engine, that was awesome!

Indeed the 455 does a great job with acceleration. When I was young my dad took me for rides in this car and always liked to open up the secondaries in the carburetor. After opening the secondaries the car would plant you firmly back against the seat. Thank you for watching.

My first girlfriend’s parents had one very much like this, but I think it was a ‘75. I got to drive it a time or two! I’ve always loved Oldsmobiles, and their engines! My parents had a few Oldsmobiles that I remember fondly; ‘72 Olds Custom Cruiser ‘77 Olds Toronado ‘79 Olds Delta 88 Royale….i bought this one from them, when I returned from England when I was in the USAF. -I left the car behind, that I had in England….it was a turd anyway. Took my Olds 88 to my last base before getting out of Active Duty. McClellan AFB, in Sacramento. Then, took her up to Washington with me, and part of that was USAF Reserves at McChord AFB. I PUT A TON OF MILES ON HER! I later bought a second ‘79 Delta 88 from a guy at work, for my wife at the time.

@@MrAamstrom yea, they’re great cars, really easy to work on too. I have the 350, but even that was easy to upgrade the carb and even heads. I’m looking at a 455, but even the 350 is great with basic tuning.

In 1978 when I turned 16, I got my grandfather's 1973 Delta 88 to drive. Not long after I got the car, I took the shoulder belt down from the sleeve on the headliner and hooked it into the lap belt and then buckled up just to see what it was like. My dad always wore his lap and shoulder belts as long as I can remember, but never really made us kids wear one on a regular basis and then it was just the lap belt sometimes and only if I was in the front seat. He was the only one in the car that was properly buckled up. The car actually drove and handled better with the belts on, plus the safety aspect wasn't a bad idea so I got in the habit of wearing them. In 1982, I was in a head-on collision with a 1981 Cadillac. I had only bruises from the belts. The other driver had his three point belt on but had the shoulder belt under his left arm and had serious head and chest trauma from the steering wheel. His un-belted passenger's head broke the windshield and had major head and internal injuries. Sure glad that my curiousness led to my getting in the lifelong habit of buckling up. Hope you are wearing your belts when in your Delta 88 and if you aren't, please start.

@@bradparris99 I always have. To tell the truth I feel naked without a seatbelt in a car because I’ve always worn it. Guess different times growing up, since I always had the ‘click-it of ticket’ billboards and ads surrounding me. I’m glad you figured it out in time

I am happy you found the video and enjoyed seeing the car. Absolutely these cars are difficult to find in current times. Sadly, from the late 1970s into the 1990s, many people found the only use in vehicles like this was a demolition derby. On the other hand, many people now realize the true qualities of the full-size cars of the past.

I have a 1975 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight LS coupe with the 455. That was the first year they had the rectangular headlamps. Has some rust through issues but otherwise the original paint and no dents, and it’s basically mechanically perfect (except it doesn’t have the AC compressor installed anymore). I drive it at least once or twice a week, and although she may look a little rough, so much fun to drive. I hope to upgrade to dual exhaust in the near future.

If you want to sell it, Please let me know. Thank you for sharing it on U-tube.
@MrAamstrom4 жыл бұрын
No cruise control on this car. The car is fairly stripped down except for AC, tilt wheel, and of course the 455 engine; because in the 88's the 350 Oldsmobile engine was standard. The bumpers are certainly massive and easily would handle the 5 mph standards set at the time and push a dumpster😀. I really like the speedometer too besides the looks it sits down in the middle of the instrument cluster. The speedometer keeps nosy passengers from watching your speed. I have no plans of selling at the time but maybe one day in the future. Thank you for watching and supporting my channel.
