Cold Start Up of a 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale 455 Rocket! ** -40 DEGREES! **

There's something to be said for defying all reasonable, rational, or logical thought, and cranking an iron-block V8 in forty-below weather, right? I mean, there's no better feeling! In this case, we particularly lucked out! Not only did the block not crack, we got it to run! All jokes aside, this is a great way to introduce my 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale, with a 455, and simply express my love and excitement for it! I'm thrilled that I can bring this thing to the channel, and I hope that you are too!
I am a 16-year-old who has a thriving passion for cars, and a burgeoning KZbin channel! Oldsmobiles have a distinct sound, a deep tinny tone to their exhaust note, got 4, 85 442 83,000 original miles all paperwork, 87 442 ttops 119,000 original miles all paperwork, 73 Delta 88 Royale Coupe factory 455 115,000 original miles all manuals same Chestnut Metallic as this guys Sedan, and a 78 98 Regency Coupe factory 403 100,850 original miles loaded all options including a 2.41 posi rear. All run like new! ❤🚀

NICE 73 Delta ....my grandparents had a 72 , till 76 then traded it in for a 76 . I LOVE these old Oldsmobiles :)

What a cool find. The GM's 455 are great. I grew up with my parents 73 Olds Ninety Eight. Gosh too cold for this early in the season in your parts. Back before solid state ignitions as a teenage I would make money on very cold nights at the mall jumping cars that had dead batteries and taking care of engines that had flooded using a pencil to keep the choke open. People often flooded their cars during cold weather because they would pump the gas pedal too much.

Thsts a sweet 73 88 Royale, interior looks clean, got a coupe in same color with 455, have original manuals as well, 115,000 original miles was one family owned car local to me, take care of that car 84K looks ablut right, nice shape, factory duals as well!❤🚀

Thanks a lot for you answer in advance :) Beautiful car, huge land yacht with a 7.5l v8, autobox working like it has honey and milk instead of oil flowing in it, light coffee colored interior... super nice! If this is a just-bought car, ur also very lucky that it had coolant withstanding that temp without the engine cracking and so on... for 10 years haha. If there was anything in there. Also where was this recorded? Alaska or it was so cold in the lower states? Or you're from Canada and I'm fooled by the mph speedo?

The oil is I'm sure the wrong viscosity for that cold of a temp. resulting in thick oil for starting.

Might want to consider a newer, higher capacity alternator and a 4 speed automatic. Also an HEI ignition. You have an old school hydraulic trailer brake controller. Taps into one of the brake lines. Sweet ride!

This going to be interesting, have had four Oldsmobiles. This Delta is the lowest optioned Royal I've ever seen.

I got the same exact car but in a Coupe , Chestnut Metallic with brown saddle interior, factory 455/400 car, only options it has are ac and power trunk release. That's it. Great car. Love Oldsmobiles, lot in family over the years!

They were nice cars but they don't start well when it is that cold. They only made 350 rockets in the 60's 455 are not rockets. Where have you been I have been looking for a video for a while now.

Well, firstly I do believe that 455's are rockets... I've got two names for ya... Kathy Mattea, and her song 455 Rocket! Haha! Although I dont know if mine's a rocket. I'll have to do some more research, though... As for content, I've really hit a dry spell, and part of it is weather, part of it it is things happening in my life, and part of it is no interesting vehicles! Now I've changed that. Yep you're right about that rich. The rockets take a little while to light unlike a 350 or 400 Chevy. Or even a Pontiac for that matter.
