6:20 I know they talked about mental health before but this is really true. I know some parents never understand why their kids are emotionally, mentally damaged, in their mind they only see that their kids have everything that (maybe) they didn't have when they were young, so they presume their kids are alright, whatever that means. And it can hurt so bad when the people who are supposed to love you and support you never understand why you have mental breakdown/illness. This video is both funny and full of awareness 😭 I love TS. Any kids who's been through situations like these, I hope you'll survive and it'll get better.

@@nyla7899 I don't claim to know what your family situation is like, but I know it won't get better if you brood on feelings like you're being abused, emotionally damaged, etc. I was part of a strict family too, but I wouldn't call it abusive. Yes, there were times when I was legitimately hurt, but looking back, most of our relationship was good. Parents are people just like everyone else, and they make mistakes. I wouldn't trade my parents for anyone else. If you know your parents love you, I'd say that's good news. My advice, if you feel like you're being hurt/abused, would be to talk to your parents about it. You may be surprised, it's possible they'll listen to you. If you do try, find some specific things you'd like to change, avoid generalizations, stay calm, and don't accuse them or get angry. Best of luck, and I hope your relationship with your parents gets better!

I taught English in China, and I remember my students complaining that every Spring Festival their mother would take their red envelope money from them to "put into a savings account", but they suspected that they were just taking the money to spend for themselves 😂 新年快乐!虎年大吉!
@sunnys5313
@sunnys5313 2 жыл бұрын
Actually in most cases, the money from the red envelope you get from your relative needs to be passed to the relative’s kids. The actual red envelop money you can keep is from your parents, your grandparents and unmarried relatives. Also, the amount of money in the red envelop is usually a few hundreds to even thousands, which is too much for a young child to handle. My parents usually let me keep some like 100yuan as pocket money to spend during spring holidays when I was a child.

There are lots of other mums saying the same. Here in Norway, you learn to remove your shoes when you're at the age you start wearing them. I think the same goes for the rest of Scandinavia as well. And here we have lots of neighbours from other countries, from Russia and Middle east, ALL of them leave their shoes actually outside the door (!) (We leave them just inside the frontdoor. Walking in wearing shoes in Norway would have got you in big trouble, you would be considered as very disrespectful and impolite. I think NOT removing shoes is actually the rare. Seems to be an American thing.

I teach piano and accompany string students at my house in Canada. It’s so hard to convince some of the Asian moms to come in the door with their shoes on. If they leave them outside they’d get rained or snowed on!

6:09 as someone with ADHD, the goldfish memory insult hurts so much to hear from my parents. I literally can't help it, my brain just doesn't work the same way as their brain and they'll never understand. Glad it was included because some things parents say are genuinely mean >:( Great video tho made me laugh a lot

I remember my sister taking up violin lessons at a College of Music in a state university. During one of her practice sessions, there was this mother who let her little daughter (around 5 years old) sit near my sister. She was about to move away when the mother told her, "No, no you stay here. You go practice with my daughter." The little girl felt pressured. Fortunately, our own mom did not pressure us like that. I'm also Asian by the way though 😅
