It's most likely because they are both sixes and the firing order and the counterweighting of both enginees. There are probably quite a few similarities between the crank layouts for both as well.

Zatiti Cherry no there is not any similarities between these two engines. The vr6 has a very unique narrow pattern with only a single head on a v6 . The vr38 is a standard v6 orientation like 60-90 degrees dual over head cam heads. Only similarity is they both have 6 pistons that's it!!!

Random Adventures You're correct, I totally forgot that the vr6 is a narrow angle V6 which is it's Hallmark; but that has no bearing on the counterweighting or the firing order, which will contribute to the sound of the engine. Narrow angle or not,it's still a six. Although the narrow angle may dictate that the vr6 may be counterweighted differently too now that I think it; but I'm not sure; but the crank layouts and the firing order can still be similar which again can contribute to them sounding similar.

Possibly the induction and or exhaust; because I do notice a similarity in the sound as well,but I'm not sure what aside from the afformentioned that could contribute to that since the engines are in fact that different.

Nice race. Winning is winning. Here are the facts. Nissan GTR standard. Make it 735Hp both and the Golf gets walked. To get 735hp in Nissan GTR is almost like pissing into the tank. They get up to 2500hp. 1000hp easy. That coupled with there is nothing left of that Golf (rear seats out, front light gone, and probably a lot of other weight reductions) and engine breaks every now and then vs a normal GTR with full seats and a lot heavier and it would whip the Golf into shreds if the same hp. Dreamers dream on... realists knows the facts.

Which is so good on this one that only the front tires smoke. Notice it has to warm those tires first too. Do you see the GTRs doing this? Nope. Now. Try and get your mind to this. The GTR has a world known gearbox, known for it's quick changes. It has a world known AWD system. This GTR 540hp was close to the Golf. Do you really want to tell me a change of 200hp will have no difference? Tell me.. what will happen if you start stripping the GTR like the Golf is? Come on. You must see the difference. You must at LEAST see why the fastest cars on things such Dragtimes, America One Lap, etc... etc.. (IF you Really want I will name a lot more) is dominated by GTR's and not VW's or Hondas. Look at Texas mile 2014 to 2017. Why are there no Golfs in those top runners? GTR's, Lambos and Vipers. Why... even the Porsches gets in the low end of the groups?

Putting it into perspective... So you have a stripped down car with nothing inside, not even seats for your friends, probably cant be driven 50km far has to be trailered, that has 200hp more than a sports car. Vs. The nissan gtr which almost everybody awes, have 4 seats, soundsystem, aircon, 540hp standard, can drive anywhere it wants. It loses maybe.. Could not see the end should have had a camera there... But never even seems by a car length. Hell. This is no brainer. Gtr with 700hp would have smoked it even. Vw sucks.
