I think the AN-2 is the most wonderful aeroplane. First made over 70 years ago and still flying . The motor is basically an American design from the 1930’s. It is one of the best STOL machines in the world. It has a number of quirky but eminently practical design features. I believe it is one of the toughest airplanes ever made. Love it.

Antonov sought to replicate the Storch’s great slow-speed flying characteristics and its ability to operate out of austere, unimproved airfields. The engineer’s merging of the myriad functional goals of his prospect (including his original ideas), the guidelines set forth by the Ministry of Forestry, and the performance of the Fi 156, would prove a great, and historically enduring, success." Robust aircraft! A flying tractor. Awesome! It reminds me an old french aircraft we used in the French Army Aviation, called Max Holste MH1521 Broussard (Bushman in English), robust as well but with disastrous performances (450 hp, radial engine but 100 kts in cruise speed ...). The skydivers loved it since it took 30 mn to clim to 3000m so they had time to get ready while the Puma (H/C) was doing the same in less than 10mn ... However I flew once the Broussard despite I had indeed the feeling to fly a tractor, I enjoyed it and I would enjoy flying an An-2, for sure. Like you I did also some parachuting because it was mandatory in the officers school but, to be honest, I didn't really like it (why jumping from a perfectly working airplane?) By the way: no seat belts for the pilots? Hope you fly again in your airline. All the best to you
@PilotBlogDenys3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Pat! Nice to read your comment and your experience. Yes, no belts 😂
@mardiffv.87753 жыл бұрын
The seatbelts are not necessary in a AN-2, in case of an engine failure. Pull the yoke towards, wait for the plane to stall and crash land like a helicopter. That is the official procedure.

Can you tell me one thing sir...You can't even open a window in passenger aircrafts bt in these type of aircrafts you can even open the door...how??
@PilotBlogDenys4 жыл бұрын
Because Antonov-2 files very low. Commercial airplanes fly very high so there is a differential pressure. The airplane is pressurised by engine bleed air to keep the cabin altitude of around 8000ft if the real altitude of airplane is 41000ft The air pressure is so low at 41000ft that in case you open the door (it is not possible but never try). Some of the stuff will be blown out and explosive decomposition is possible. The human brain may keep conscious at 41000ft for 5-10 seconds. That is our time to put the oxygen masks. I hope you got it 🙂

Russian? Google Translate says your shirt is in Russian language. Something about great kazan, whatever that is. Just curious about the language. Particularly since the auto generated English subtitles don't work when you don't speak English it seems. I know how to say a few words in Russian, but mostly military terms I've picked up from video games. Other than that, I am clueless.
