@@mngsadventur3364 It helped but it didn't fix it, I found a video that shows there is a switch inside the consoleby the shifter didn't do it yet but seems to be the fix for it

This video was a HUGE help and saved me a fortune by not having to pay a mechanic to do this! That said, there are some finer points that should be mentioned. I bought the part for $8.59 on ebay (Micro Switch D2HW-BL251H). You disassemble the console as portrayed in this video, BUT it's A LOT easier if you also partially pull off the side panels on both sides (alongside each seat and the console)- they snap out with tabs. From the passenger side, you'll see a silver bolt that holds a plastic block up against the switch. Loosen that with a Phillips head screwdriver. The switch is held in place by two plastic tabs on the right (mine were painted a fluorescent orange). Take a photo of how the switch is installed. Once you have the switch out, take a photo of how the two wires are oriented. There are three tabs but only two wires. They are soldered on. Cut them off and strip off some wire sheathing. I'm not good a soldering but I watched several videos here and felt confident I could do it. I bought a cheap soldering iron and solder at Harbor Freight for less than $10. I added some solder on the two tabs and tinned the wire and voila! I did it! I snapped the switch back it, tightened the set screw and snapped everything back (after cleaning it all). It looks great and, even better, the key doesn't get stuck in the ignition. All for less than $20. Thank you for this video!

I fixed this same issue for my buddies car (kia I think it was). And it was still intermittent, so as a redundant backup we added a hidden, cheap, little push button switch in parallel with the factory switch, that way if it ever did stop working again, he could just reach down and hold that button and make it work manually. Normally it works fine most of the time, but he said he did have to use it a few times on some really cold days; so that turned out to be a pretty cool fix-- since he already had the little momentary switch laying around.

Thanks for the video! Which cleaner did you use? Is there one you recommend, given the rubber part of the switch was hesitant to use one that may wear the rubber down.

Most recalls are safety-related so if this switch caused the engine to die it probably would have been a recall. The best thing to do is replace the switch but cleaning it will also fix it but probably for not as long.
