Yep, I do love this longer format. Not boring at all as I can get a bit of history with most of your plants, which look great considering you don't grow in a greenhouse. One of these days I'll do a video of my 100+ orchids that I mostly grow in my SW livingroom window. Except for my Rv Jimney Cricket, Onc. sotoanum, and Ornithocephalus kreugerii, my collection is pretty much flowerless at the moment.

Thank you for your feedback. Please do make a video some time. I would love to see it. You have pointed out the thing with orchids - you have to have so many to get any decent number of flowering ones at any time. It reminds me of the old joke. Q : How do you have 100 orchids in flower at the same time? A : Start with 1000.

I love long orchid update videos! 👀💚 It amazes me how beautifully you can grow oncidiums in just bark in your environment- I've learned that I can only grow them well with a lot of moss, otherwise they shrivel right up.

Very nice update, Rachel. I hope your cattleya mossiae will eventually bloom. I've read that sometimes some species might make sheaths before they are blooming size, so that might give us false hopes. Maybe she's taking her time and preparing herself. You have a very nice collection. I enjoyed the long video. I didn't see your Aliceara Tahitian Dancer here, maybe it was in another update. Mine started to bloom again. I have to film an update soon. It has been cool at the balcony, and the cooler temperatures have intensified the colors of the blooms. This time they are the color of beetroots, very dark purple. I know they can be pink sometimes. :)
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea and thank you for your comments. I must confess that I divided my Tahitian Dancer in spring and sent half to Ana Maria and half to my friend so I don't have it any more. It was a great orchid for many years but I got tired of it in the end. I must say, I kind of miss it now that I don't have any other oncidium-types in bloom :/
@alanm9523

I got a Tahitian Dancer this year too. I would send a division for you but it only has a few bulbs on it. Did you find them to be water hogs? Maybe it's just because I have it in a warm room.

That is so completely sweet of you and such a kind thought. I found Tahitian Dancer easy in every way and not demanding of water more than once a week. But I did pot her with some sphag. Happy growing!

Install a small waterfall with maybe a three gallon pond. Remember to paint the walls and ceiling with a high gloss finish to prevent moisture absorption into the framework of the structure. I just bought my first orchid to grow in an orchid house. A terrestial variety. Mulch creates heat so will prevent freezing in winter. Any greenhouse can be heated with proper mulching material inside the greenhouse.

Great video! I love seeing how your orchids are doing and getting some ideas for my wish list 😉 the length of he video was fine. I have to say that I also bought a few orchids from orchids & more a few months back and they were all in a dreadful state and the media stank...mainly sphagnum that I suspect the plants had been in since babies. My psychopsis had to be repotted and the roots were awful too and it has done nothing. I wont buy from them again!!

That is a terrible shame about your experience with Orchids & More. Did you contact them? I have found them responsive in that case and have received a credit note in the past (although I can't quite recall what happened with the psychopsis). Thanks for your feedback and for listening.

I did contact them and he was quite defensive and would only knock 5 euro off or said i could return them, by which time i had repotted them all anyway. The cattleya I got had scale too. Dreadful. Hi Rachel. I for one like reasonably long vids. If you really feel they are too long you can always divide into two parts like Roger does. (I love his sagas). If someone has a lot of plants then the vids are gonna be long aren't they? So a yes from me. Only wish I could edit mine then I would do longer ones.
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback, Lynn. Have you tried using the free KZbin editing tools? They are the only thing I use. They take a little getting used to but are so handy. I record and upload my videos in smaller clips (we have weak broadband so I can't upload long videos) and then join them together and cut bits out etc on KZbin. It's very handy even for making a nice family video.

Hello Kate and thank you for your feedback. I think the plant you are asking about, from Ana Maria, is Aliceara Tahoma Glacier. I did list all the orchids in the video, in order of appearance, in the video description. I almost always do this on my videos. But I do appreciate that, with 74 orchids listed, it can be tricky to work out exactly where you are :)

Hi, I enjoyed your video, but love to see your flowers where were they. I have only just started, in the past we have bought many Phalaenopsis, in flower, but failed to keep them for the following year. While in Minehead I bought a Cymbidium, loved the spray of flowers, that was three years back. I kept it going, no flowers came. this year I spit it into many bits, and as I have been watching video's on water culture, so I am giving that a try. Do you do any water culture. I am thinking about this video, you keep them in rooms, are they getting enough light for flowers to develop. do you have a glass house. Well I am going now, Got to change the Cymbidiums water and add Epsom salts.next change will fertilize them. I want to try our uk orchids any advice, do you now any growers. Thank you. Danny. :)

Hi Danny. Nice to hear from you. If you want to see orchids in flower then please take a look at one of my orchids in bloom videos! There are lots of them. I don't grow using water culture so can't help you there. I would suggest, however, that a semi-terrestrial orchid like a cymbidium is not the best one to start with. Sorry, I can't really advise on UK nurseries as I'm not in the UK. I tend to order from the euro zone.

Many thank's. I did read that they would be good for a cool room, the ones I have are in my bedroom... Danny.

Yes, cymbidiums need cooler winter temperatures to rebloom. Received wisdom is that they need a 10 degree day to night temperature difference although some hybrids are easier. Their needs are quite different to epiphytic orchids. Here's a link to a video I made on reflowering cymbidiums. Good luck... kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5jNc5Sjj9uemM0

Everything looks good, especially your purpurata. Do you water your orchids in the rooms where they are growing... or do you move them outside or into the kitchen/bath to flush them...?

Hi John. The orchids are moved into the kitchen for watering. It is a big job.

Wow... that's a lot of orchids. But how do you do it???? Noooooo..... not water them but, how do you keep their names straight? I would prefer a shorter video, because with no blooms they were all looking alike, but on the other hand, I like the long videos when you're out - on location.

Well that's very interesting, Blanca. I didn't realise that anyone was interested in longer 'garden tour' videos. I always find it so funny that I visit a number of very interesting places and try to vary my content in different locations and still the videos that get the most views are one where I sit in my kitchen and just spout about orchids. To think that when I started my channel wasn't even going to have my orchids on!

Love your videos but 12-15 minutes is my preference. Best, Anne

I can understand that, Anne. Such a long video is a big chunk out of anyone's busy day. There seems to be some appetite for longer videos so I may make the occasional one.

Hi Cyril. I have never bought plants from the States. You have a lot of ones there that are just not seen in Europe. Thanks for your feedback on video length.

I liked this video BUT you should make it only a couple times per year because othe wise you wont have anything new to show.

These long videos are generally referred to as the monthly update by other otchid KZbinrs and there is always something to say. But I don't plan on making long videos that frequently myself. Thanks for your feedback and comments.

Length of video not important when you have something to say and are knowledgable like you are. Never heard you spout ANY mis-information and I can't say that about some channels.
