My "little kid" elementary school students are loving your videos as we get ready to have a pottery unit. Thank you so much for being so generous to share your talent. Each video brings me something more that I can use in improving my own throwing. If you have a chance and can do so, they would love to hear a word or two from you about pottery making. Thanks

l love this tutorial! I love how he explained about how to add the handles later. I wish he had explained more while throwing the mugs, and trimming them. I hope to see more videos where he takes us through the steps, because he is an absolutely great teacher and out of this world potter!!

You make beautiful cups and they have truly inspired me! Thank you for taking the time to document your process and share this video. I learned so much from it, aside from your precise technique, I also loved to watch how relaxed you are when making each part of a cup. Everything feels very deliberate without wasted movement...just very beautiful to watch :)

@clayphoenix Hi, I never have problems of splitting or S cracking. The trick of avoiding S crack is trimming the bottom thin enough, and control the attaching timing to the same dryness and you will never need to worry about splitting. I applied just simply slip to the joint and never heard of magic water. All my 100 mugs are all in perfect condition after they dried.

@hsinchuen Probably so!!! Thanks for expanding my knowledge!!! Blessings.

Thank you Lin, this was an excellent lesson. Looks like you leave a decent thickness in the foot when cutting off the hump- would you estimate 1/2", or more? Trimming to the right thickness is always a trick for me despite years of throwing I noted you didn't tap to check thickness except on the bottom. As always, such beautiful work.

@potterylady1 i, I think you were taught wrong. My mugs are either round or flat inside depending on how they look outside. When you have outside shape round how can it be inside flat?
@potterylady113 жыл бұрын
@armandoke Thank you. This does help. Yes I did figure I was pulling flat bottom mugs and I do. I just never thought to make the otherwise. Thanks. I will have to play a wound and experiment with this.

Thank you so much for sharing your process. How much clay did you start with when you were throwing the mugs? Do you just use slip for attachments or do you use a special formula, i.e. like "magic water"? Again your work is great and I learn so much from watching you throw!
@armandoke13 жыл бұрын
@potterylady1 Well, it might be that your mugs are mostly based on pulling cylinders, thus a flat floor, instead of having the bowl form with a round/curve shape, inside and outside. It seems also that it depends on the pressure you will add with your outside hand. If not sufficient, you are most likely to create a flat floor anyway. Hope it helps you.

Beautiful work. Do you ever get cracking/splitting at the join of the handles? Doesn't look like you worry much about a slow dry. How do you avoid splitting at the joins? thanks!

Please answer this....are your cups and mugs round in the inside???? I have been taught to make the inside floor flat and not round. What is your take on this?

Marianne Sandy It's a mixture between coleman porcelain and glacial porcelain. I think he said it was a 2:1 ratio
