This is the story of Bridget Agbahime, the 74 years old woman accused of Blasphemy in 2016 at the Kofa Wambai market. Kano State Nigeria.

This is not just religiously motivated, it was economically motivated murder! The evil man wanted her shop. These hausa muslims hate the prospering Christian Igbos and that is just the simple fact. She had a better positioned store He wanted it. He bullied her until he orchestrated her murder in the name of blasphemy. Something the fanatics are all too happy to do simply because the victim is a Christian. It's so sad how justice is NEVER gotten in this country Nigeria. I was a resident of katsina state at the time the killing of this woman happened and a bunch of us Christians who were residing in katsina state were scared for our lives. It so happened that the woman was lied against. The Muslim man who came to her rescue who happened to have witnessed what happened came late and that was how her husband was spared. Apparently she asked a Muslim guy not to perform his ablution in front of her shop and that’s how the guy turned it into blasphemy.

I live in a place that (officially) hasn’t executed anyone for witchcraft, blasphemy or heresy in about 400 years, so I’m not sure how these religious conflicts ever get resolved so people can live in “peacetime” as civilians. I think usually some laws are lobbied-for & if they pass Congress, it is a law enforcement matter when hostilities erupt. Or a President/Head of state can issue an edict which can only last a certain term, but which can cause the legislature to act (or in Nigeria’s case, the Parliament) to pass laws & fund an Oversight Governing Body & regulate religious organizations like any other for-profit company would be regulated. I don’t know what the best solutions are for so many religious killings as True Crime Daniel has been reporting. But if these are the results of people’s training in religions, then something is Incorrect about that religious-concept for Nigerian-concept people, who SHOULD be trying to be the best Nigerians they can be in all areas of human activity, without mistreating anyone & by “providing the most constructive help to the person who needs help the most,” just as The Counter-Racist Code Guidebook suggests. A similar thing happened to me. I had a neighbour who used to park her car in front of my shop. She was doing it b4 I rented the place, when I came she continued. I didn't have a car. I wanted to sell some other commodities so I got a stand to put in front of my shop. I asked the supervisor to inform her to park her car in front of her shop properly, she felt she was already parking b4 I came so she had the right to continue. With bitterness she stopped. But her husband didn't stop. Anytime he came around he would park and block my things. After months I kept quite untillsomeone adviced me to speak to the supervisor, I had not idea the supervisor had an issue with me. Long and short is that i was accused that one of other tenants saw me sprinkling Juju items in front of everyone's shop. Hmmmm I am constantly grateful that I wasn't dealing with some type of religious extremist people. Or let's say some 50 years ago I could have been killed.

Stories like this are very common in the north. As a Christian if you have the slightest misunderstanding with one of them and exchange a few words the next thing you know they accuse you of blasphemy. I almost witnessed one in Abuja as recently as 5 months ago, for no reason the Muslim guy started hurling insults on the Igbo guy calling him all sorts of name. What was his crime? Entering a taxi and speaking English to the taxi driver who claims not to understand English. I got involved questioning the Hausa guys reasons for calling the Igbo guy all those names since he didn't understand Hausa and I did, things escalated suddenly to the point that I became scared to my life. Thank God things it didn't get worse. When I got back to work that day I was not myself self. All I told my colleagues was Nigeria is finished.

You do not have because you do not ask God.” The above scripture is exactly what occurred. And Dauda would be judged accordingly to this verse one day! On the basis of killing in the name of religion and so forth, God never asked anyone to kill on “his behalf”; Vengeance belongs to God. EVEN if it’s the case of Blasphemy! Which I don’t believe the woman did such. Here’s what the Bible teaches about true religion- James 1:27 “religion accepted by God the Father is to look after the orphans and widows and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” Now here’s a crucial point for Born again Christians. Understand this- many of us would fail and let our emotions get in the way if we found ourselves in similar situation. We would quarrel and even fight. And I truly want to believe that while the pastor and his wife were in the Alhaji’s office, that they both prayed for God’s mercy and forgiveness.. and I truly hope they also forgave that man. Because in the end, we’re commanded to forgive. Please let’s recall Christ’s teachings to us about handling people who offend us. In the book of Matthew, he addressed turning the other cheek, if a person takes something “forcefully” from you to give your “cloak” as well; being at peace with ALL men in all things; Love your enemy; do good to those who despise you! Etc… A Child of God will only accomplish these with the help of the Holy Spirit! Cuz trust me, even me typing, Lord knows I would let my emotions get in the way. From the onset, this man allowed himself to be used of the devil to bring that poor woman down. She tried to reason with him, argued with him, quarreled, and even reported him BUT nothing. The last day of the whole saga, she told him to leave so she could lock up, when he held her hand, she threatened to hit him with something…until everything went south🥺🥺😢😢😢😢 Learning point-We’ve been taught “this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting”; every morning once I open, I would pray, anoint my shop, begin positive declarations and add fasting to it… should the demon possessed man come to disrupt my shop, begin to Speak in Tongues, crying out to God to set confusion in the camp of the enemy who intends to bring me down.. and back it up with Praise medleys! In fact have the gospel songs in my radio and blast it and singing in praises… exactly around the time he comes to the front of my shop… and I won’t stop there. Prayers would continue at home! The ultimate agenda and plan of what the Devil wanted is what happened- to bring her down using his minion, Dauda. Nonetheless, the Great God who never sleeps nor slumbers would avenge for her and others like her who have been MALICIOUSLY MANIPULATED to death.
