After Guerrero sets off his bomb in the back of the plane, there is (of course) a decompression. The captain, who had been in the back talking to Guerrero and oxygen-mask-hopped back to the deck, is aware that many passengers don't have the masks on, and decides to descend rather quickly to save their lives. I remember he mentions it's risky because the plane is structurally damaged. Unfortunately I don't remember how long it takes the plane to reach the lower altitude. Nice job bro, I’ve always been wanting to see this movie reviewed by someone like you who can actually put a more realistic tag on it! Having flown the MD-11 for a long time, I always wanted to know what you considered could possibly cause a breach into the fuselage by a “thunderstorm, or hail storm?“ I think it would’ve been important to note that not even a lightning storm or a hail storm could’ve caused a breach into the fuselage, therefore making this even more unrealistic scenario! Of course, there’s never been anything like this that’s happened to an MD11 let alone another large commercial aircraft that I know of. Keep these movie reviews coming and I thought it was very nice to know from a pilots perspective the chances of something like this actually happening.

The engine ran too long after the crash. To begin with it would have ingested an enormous amount of water during the crash landing. That would have stopped it. Secondly pretty much everything that controls the engine is broken from the cockpit back, and most likely there's fuel not getting to the engine. Why is it running. I think they overdid that part

Since he spoke of reading through the comments a lot in this video, I just wanted to say that I didn’t notice anything strange about his appearance at all. I’ve liked and subscribed!
@futurevegan86174 жыл бұрын
Okay, I watched 2:00 over again. In the beginning, he’s reading prepared text. If I were to post a video, I’d probably try to set up a teleprompter type of thing too. He’s cut out takes of himself reading, and the best ones probably involved not losing his place for an eighth of a second. After that, he blinks less often than I do, but he is blinking. I also notice that he seems tense, almost as if he’s painfully aware of the thousands of people who are eager to hear his musings on a 20-year-old Tom Hanks movie. His adrenaline/enthusiasm might have a lot to do with it. But picking on a physical trait like that, or, say, telling someone they blink too *often* can really impact a person’s self esteem for years.

The one "Hollywood" part of this scene that made me laugh was when the plane hit the water. The Hanks character was standing, holding onto netting. That plane had to be going at LEAST, well over 150 mph and likely A LOT faster. So when they hit the water, his arm would have been ripped off right before he sent flying into the cockpit and killed instantly. Imagine standing up in the back of a van that hit a brick wall at only 60 mph. It would send you through the windshield and you be killed.

My thoughts exactly. Surviving a water landing in a large jet like that is a very rare thing and it ONLY has the POTENTIAL to happen when you "land" on the water like it's a runway and touch the water just right. (not plowing into it violently like in the movie). Even then you're probably going to die when one of the wings digs into the water and the plane spins apart at a minimum of 115 to 150 mph (stall speed for large jetliners). Or maybe you end up slamming into a wave in a head-on collision, which at over a hundred miles per hour = pretty much zero chance of anyone surviving, especially someone standing up and not wearing a seat belt. But at their angle of descent, they're probably going much faster than stall speed which completely removes any chance of survival. (again, especially for a doofus standing up without a seat belt).

Not likely is not the same thing as "impossible." We all know that unlikely events take place all the time. I saw a traffic accident where a car ran a read light hitting another car. That car was thrown out of control and rolled over, striking a pedestrian in the cross walk. The car rolled over the pedestrian side down. Looking at it, there was no way the pedestrian survived. But the dent caused by the red light runner was right where the pedestrians body was, making a gap large enough that the pedestrian wasn't even hurt. Amazingly unlikely, but that is what happened.

I was in a traffic situation where a fully laden dump truck lost its brakes and traveling at about 40-50 mph miraculously bypassed an intersection (where I was at) stopped at a red light, crossed over four lanes of federal highway traffic moving in the opposing direction without hitting anybody, narrowly missed a gas station fuel pump, and then slammed into a hotel with a brick wall without slowing down until the wall performed the braking action. I thought for sure that the driver was simply dead and called 9-1-1 on my cell phone trying to let the police know about the accident and that an ambulance was needed too. When I saw the driver walk out of literally hitting a brick wall (it took out two hotel rooms in the process as well), I was just gobstruck and amazed. The skill of the driver to avoid my car (where I know I would be dead today if not for the driver's direct skill and finding key points to steer the truck) is something I can't understate. There were about a dozen cars in the group of vehicles waiting for the red light, and all of them could have potentially been hit by this truck in a chain collision as well as the dozens of other vehicles traveling in the opposing direction that were moving and simply couldn't see the dump truck. Heck, there should have been people pumping gas that could have and should have been hit and simply weren't there either on that fortunate day, and the hotel rooms had also fortunately not been rented at the time of the incident too so they were empty. Yeah, weird stuff happens like that. And in this case, the only casualty was a broken shower in a hotel and some very minor bruses on the driver after hitting the brick wall. Nearly one of a hundred people potentially could have died had any one of them been to the right or left of the truck literally seconds earlier and it could have been incredibly ugly.

My family have friends who live in Ireland. They were heading to Los Angeles for a wedding but a traffic accident in Ireland made them miss their original flight. They booked a flight later, but they were also going to miss their connection. They called their friends in LA about their new pick up time, but their problems were not over. The Pilot came on the PA and explained there was some problem at their destination airport and they would be landing in Canada instead. Now they have missed 2 flights and when they got off the plane, they learned that their original connecting flights had been crashed. The date was 11 September, 2001. Imagine how an accident in another part of the world conspires to save your life!

Really liked the technicals. Always wanted to be a pilot, spent most of my teenage years reading fcoms and training manuals for different aircraft. Sadly the cost to train is prohibitive here unless you’re from a wealthy family, at the equivalent of $170-200k so it must remain purely a dream for me. I love hearing the technical sides to what you’re saying, and get a laugh out of saying things at the same time you do along with the video ❤️

I had the same sweater in the 70's , even the same colors. I only wore it once or twice. Never thought it would end up in the movies.

This video and the others are quite informative. I just got my first job as an airline pilot and I'm still going through ground school for the maddog and I haven't been inside the cockpit at all and though I know the systems theorically I just couldn't figure out one thing. How exactly do these oxygen masks work. You explained it here and I learned it perfectly. Thanks again brother. I've learned a lot from you.
