Personally, I’d throw in four more bits of info. First, Yrica Quell is bisexual. In a conversation with the ex-torture droid, she recalls a former female and male partner. It doesn’t come back into the story (other than possible subtext with Chass na Chadic, the B-Wing pilot), but as a bisexual myself, that small moment made me smile. _“We’ll talk about anything you like, then.”_ _She meant it. She would talk about the Emperor and Operation Cinder. She would talk about her parents and her first girlfriend. Her last boyfriend. Her squadron. Anything the IT-O unit needed to believe she was fit._ *[p. 180, hb]* Second, after Quell performs poorly in a mission, her astromech takes the blame. I can’t remember exactly what its excuse was, but I liked the small subplot of Quell growing more accustomed to friendly relations with a droid. It especially reminded me of Iden Version, who starts off _Battlefront II_ calling her droid “droid”, but goes on to repaint it in bright colours and refer to it by a nickname. _“You ready?” she asked, and D6-L replied with a straightforward chime of acknowledgement._ _She’d never expected to find herself conversing unnecessarily with an astromech droid. But times had changed._ *[p. 307, hb]* Third, Palpatine’s messenger droids have more of their behaviour shown. The one in this book has never said a word after delivering its initial instructions, mostly stays in its assigned Imperial’s room (but sometimes goes around the ship), never responds to her questions, and joins her in the command centre when everything starts to go wrong. It watches her silently throughout the final act, and never does nothing to aid or inform her. I found it interesting to see an entity so completely detached from everything around it. It made these messenger droids feel almost supernatural. In fact, this one is referred to as things like “spectre” and “the Emperor’s ghost” a few times. _Did it know? she wondered. Had it been monitoring transmissions and somehow determined the danger that Pandem Nai was in? Or had it predicted something else about the battle? Something about the enemy forces or Shakara’s own decisions?_ _Her heart seemed to seize. Had it anticipated her doubt? Had it come to the command center knowing that she despaired at the condition of the Empire she’d once served well?_ *[p. 328, hb]* Fourth, Hera tells Quell that her fellow squadron members _“have spent years learning to trust their comrades and do what needs to be done.”_ This is obviously a reference to _“Do what must be done, Lord Vader,”_ from ROTS.

It's possible, based on the comic it seems that the 204th uses mainly Interceptors and in the book it's not very often we're reminded that they are interceptors so it'd be easy to forget. So you're probably right.

Also surprised you didn't mention how she chose her droid by random and he was originally a capital ship maintenance droid which was what R2 originally was way back in phantom menace. Also how it shows again in canon how a lot of roles were split up with droids and an astromech didn't always mean for a fighter

@@wesrm1 I had very mixed feelings about the name "Jacen" being brought back into canon as Kanan and Hera's kid, I can't help but associate it with Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus. The fact that we don't see Jacen Syndulla at all here kinda added to that feeling... Although it may actually be nice to *know* one of the Knights of Ren, rather than all of them being random Force users.
