I was like this with my dress collection, saving them for special occasions. Now the special occasion is I’m alive. I’m going to wear them day to day because they feel like me, they’re comfortable and easy, and each day I’m living is a special occasion worth wearing the dang dress lol

To note: most of my dresses are all pretty neutral or colorful but subdued color if that makes sense and flowy so they feel pretty to me but more casual than wedding guest ready or LBD in a way. Lots of smocked styles so I can feel comfy without a bra and breastfeeding etc lol

The thing to remember, too, is that the people in the photos also have blisters from their heels, bills to pay at home, argued with someone that week, got a big zit, etc. It’s easy to idealize someone else’s life, but everyone is going through something, bored and/or struggling to some extent. Images are fun as a flight of fancy but a lot of the time it’s mostly marketing, not a true representation of the fullness of anyone’s actual life. Great video! Be true to yourself but also stand up for the creative hopeful part of yourself that sometimes wants something more for yourself personally. Like anyone else, you deserve good things (experiences, projects, adventures, etc.).

Yes! I totally agree. No one lives a completely blister/zit free life (no matter how much it seems that way on the internet) 😅 And thank you! Definitely trying to find that balance between contentment and hope-filled pursuits. I think what the challenge made me realize is that I was allowing other people’s opinions to determine what was worth pursuing, instead of letting my own interests and preferences do that.

Broderie anglaise? Maybe? I really need to try this also but keep forgetting to start every single morning. You are SO interesting and smart, and your life is SO valuable-I am so glad you discovered that!

What a good catch! I didn’t even know that such a thing existed, but (after a quick google search 😄), I think you’re right. Thank you for your kind words!

I liked that in the first video you had the word "potato" as one of your aspirational descriptions for the project. It sounds like you just want to be a comfy funky potato a lot of the time, which makes sense since your day to day life needs you to be comfortable, robust and adaptable. Sometimes I like to get ready and imagine the accessories and hair style I could put with the outfit if I were to go out but not actually put them on. I get to flex the creative muscle but I also don't have to get irritated when moping round the house or doing chores.

“I don’t like my clothes to be precious” I resonate with this so much haha. This is what I always need to remind myself when I buy clothes.

I've noticed that for myself it's less about the individual pieces of clothing and more about the act of 'styling'. In the day to day, I pick out a t shirt and jeans and run after my kids. But if i go out, I tuck in the tshirt, add a belt, put on a ring, grab a cute bag, etc. I'm wearing the same garments but now its a 'look'. Taking outfit photos isn't too helpful for me right now because I don't go out much and I don't need further insight into what a tshirt and my favorite jeans look like lol. I noticed from your Pinterest board that a lot of the colour comes from jackets/sweaters, bags, and shoes. Things that require some styling. Maybe you have a subconcious belief that it's a shame to wear a fun pop of colour without styling it? Thanks for the video!

This is such a good insight! I think I was definitely feeling a lot of pressure to “style” my outfits more during this challenge (which I don’t tend to do as much in the everyday - my kids don’t seem to care about a French tuck 😅). But making that distinction between those two ways of getting dressed is so helpful! And you’re right - some of my favorite ways to incorporate interest is through shoes/bags/accessories, which can feel silly and unnecessary if you’re just hanging around the house.

This insight was exactly what I needed today. I have always wanted to see myself as ‘more stylish’ but I am drawn to classic shapes and more neutral colours that stand the test of time. That is my style!

You can’t go wrong with timeless and classic! Isn’t funny how we get an idea in our heads about what “more stylish” looks like? I blame the internet 😂

This was really a great video that was very insightful! If it is anything I find you to be quirky and interesting in an artistic sort of way from over here just as you are. Your Pinterest board is not super far off from where you seem to be naturally! Maybe if you feel like you want to add more color and still feel like yourself you could add a colorful purse to all of your outfits. It is something that you had a few times on your board and is not exactly something that you WEAR wear so you might be more comfy with that expression of color than the one that you thought that you would like.
