Unfortunately you won't find the mention of the Cosa much around Vespa and Piaggio circles, even by the maker themselves. It is something Piaggio saw as a design flop they weren't proud of, an attempt of modernization of the scooter many at Pontedera then saw as 'old and boring'. You also have to put this into a perspective of the late 80es, it was the end of the 'square and straight-line designed cars and motorbikes which ultimately caugh on scooters too, numerous faceless Japanese variants being the main culprit. Piaggio was loosing the battle against cheap and angular designed Japanese. The T5, which was seen by many a U-turn on a traditional Vespa design although just a facelift on the then market leading PX model, simply wasn't enough to compete against the cheaper, eye catching alternatives from the Orient. Que in - Cosa. The first and only Vespa produced in Piaggio's history which had the cowls directed front way back. Gone was so recognizable sloping cowl design that had been around from 1946, gone was the gently sloping rear behind the seat, gone was the simple, thin-profile leg shield, gone was the Vespa-styled front fender. All of it was replaced in a single model. Yes, it came with many a technological advancements but those simply couldn't 'fix' the biggest Vespa design flaw ever. That being said, we have to also remember that this underwhelming, badly designed scooter Cosa was, gave an inspirational elements to what eventually became a GT200 in 2003, many many years later. Vespa has also been trying to 'fix' few other design elements on their latest editions of Sprint, Primavera and GTS, more and more you will notice a throwback to the design elements of the Vespas from 60es and 70es. I recently upgraded from GT200 to a new HPE GTS300 and love the return to chrome and older styling. One example for me is the new horn cover (the tie) which is a nice change, older horn covers ones felt out of place for me and disconnected with those recognizable elements of the past.

Thank you for your very long and interesting comment. Somebody else mentioned already that I forgot the Cosa. That's true. All the footage and the informations on the models were given by Piaggio and, as you said, they did not mention the Cosa at all. So it seems like they really want the Cosa to obliterate.

@@scooterfilm Thanks. Let's just say Piaggio isn't proud of that episode, and they'd like if people forget it ever existed. It was rather an experiment in the late 80es which didn't go down well.
