If you and your mum are still in Bangkok this Sunday, Oct 27 from 3 pm, you should take her to see a royal barge procession from around Rama 8 Bridge to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). The king will be offering monk robes as part of the end of the Buddhist Lent. 52 barges and 2,399 oarsmen w/ the main barge, the Golden Swan, being 130 yrs old bulit during King Rama 5 and completed King Rama 6. The procession is 1.28 km long. This pomp and ceremony follows an ancient protocol procedure to the last detail. It's going to be spectacular! Doesn't happen too often. Last time was during King Rama 10's coronation 4 yrs ago.
