This is the 454 LS-7 Big Block Chevy I have owned since '91. Stock bore, steel "990" heads, .710 lift Comp Solid Roller Cam, Brodix aluminum ported intake, 1350 cfm Holley Dominator, Comp. Hooker Headers. These motors come from the factory with 12.5 pistons, steel crank, 4-bolt mains, and the best of everything. The most "Bullet Proof" engine GM ever made. We rev it to 7000 rpm every shift. Best time was 9.78 @ 137mph in 1/4 and 6.16 @ 112mph in 1/8 mile. 3000 lb. car with driver. "Foot Breakin', NO electronics at all. No trans brake.

Rare engine!You are right about the LS-7,the factory under-rated it at 475 b.h.p. but it was more than 500.The only other engine with similar rarity and power is the L-88 427 with 560 b.h.p.They called these torque monsters,with nearly 600 ft./lbs. of frame twisting power!They are GM's most awesome!Pure Beauty!!!!

I bought one of those in 1988, except mine was "stock" over the counter. Used the GM aluminum high rise, single Holley L88 four barrel (when you could still buy those from Holley). Had it in a 1965 Chevelle with 3.31 gears, built TH350 behind it, ran the best time of 10.56 @ 136 mph. Most reliable 454 I ever owned for sure...

Nice and thank you for sharing! Nice hotrod, I built a 31 coupe 5 window, chop and channel. Fogger now, 520 ci, powerglide trans brake, Ford 9". She was fine and frame 18 pt cage from ground up! 1988. Enjoyed the memories 👍🏻👍🏻😇😇😇 Thank You good man!

People are making comments on here like they are catching this guy in some lie or something. This is the original LS7 chevy engine. These young guys know the "new" ls7 engine which is a small block. It was stupid of GM to name the new one an LS 7 IMO.
@freakineagle
@freakineagle 10 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about the name. There is only one LS-7, and it is the 454 LS-7. Thanks.
@firemanfig
@firemanfig 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry Danny, but you dont know your chevys. The 427 was an LS6, just like the guy in video said. The LS7 was a crate motor (454) from the early seventies.
@firemanfig
@firemanfig 7 жыл бұрын
I stand corrected, partly. Yes, the LS6 was a 454, the one right before the 454 LS7. You are thinking of the modern, small block 427, which GM stupidly named the LS7, since there was already an LS7 from 1970, the 454. Read the other comments on here from us older guys that know.

This confuses me. I thought the new 454 LS7 and the old 454 where identical in size.

Wish I was there with a case of beer and hear the 'Fandango' growl! That 454 CID would be perfect in my Corvette. My 454 pulled 610hp on the dyno and it's crazy power for a street car. Your 454 is somewhere after crazy and just before insane power. It's amazing the torque curve of a powerful big block Chevy, tons of fun also.

Love, Love, Love Big Block Chevys, Buicks, Pontiacs, Olds, and Ford engines. Hey, the Caddy 500 fits in there somewhere also. I do know that you can build a completely stock engine with a plain Jane cam and start it on the engine stand with a flex plate and it'll lope like it has a mild cam in it. A good heavy flywheel will smooth out much of that loping. But, I prefer to hear any V8 lope. Best engine sound ever!

I put a near identical to stock LS-7 big block in my '64 Malibu back in 1973. The main difference was I used an Edelbrock Tarantula intake on mine. It was backed up with a V-Gate shifted M-22 four speed and 12 bolt rear end. That LS-7 cam had such an awesome sounding idle and the power was fantastic.. I shifted gears at 7500 RPM when racing and revved the engine to 8300 RPM once during a high speed run on the highway - and it was still climbing. I was afraid I would blow it up if I kept my foot in it so I let off the gas. I never took it to the drag strip but it was the fastest car on the streets in my town until the day I pulled the engine out of the car. I wish I still had that car.

Back in the 80s when I worked in the machine shop, a fella offered me a chevy engine for a rebuild and fire for his bronco... it was an all std LS7 he bought it for his boat and was going to a fuel friendly bowtie 500 marine engine. I still have it

Thanks Darrell. You know what you are talking about. Few people really knew about the 'over the counter' Mighty LS-7s. Bullet proof and fast as hell. FYI, I also had a L-88 and it was in an extremely rare COPO '66 Corvette that was special ordered by Dontov himself and I ended up with it from the buyer here in VA. (DOCUMENTED) Thanks again.

I have the 1.8's on it. The only problem I have encountered, was one valve cover bolt on each side will not work with my covers. I had to beat the indention out enough for the rocker to clear the cover. Also I learned to use smaller shaft push rods. My big shafts were hitting the rocker and breaking the ball tips off. She has a ton of character for sure. shakes like a beast. It's going to be a fun little street rod in a few months. Paint and body is almost through with their end. Won't be long.

I have dyno'd similar engines and they make between 600 and 650hp. Based on your trap speed, you are in the 650hp area, so you are doing pretty good for this type of engine. The heads end up being the cork unless they are worked over. Work over the 990's with bigger valves, and some bowl work on the intake, and full port on the exhaust and it really wakes up them up. They have enough intake port volume for a 454, but they are somewhat undervalved. I put 2.25 or 2.30 intake valves in them. The exhaust is the weak point, as they don't flow great. A bigger valve doesn' t help much, but a full port job, raising the roof as much as you can really helps.

I love to fire it off on the stand and see peoples reaction when they drive by. I'm running the square port heads also. I think the are 991's, if I'm not mistaken.
