Wes, I received my basic Craftsman tool kit from my dad for my 16th birthday as well. I have yet to beak, bend, or allow rust since 1964 ~ some 53 years. Hope yours last as long as mine and you are still busting knuckles when you are 73! Good show, thank you.

I had one hell of a time replacing "craftsman" screw drivers via the big blue store "Lowes", two of them were snapped off tip flatheads, the others were worn out phillips bits. they argued that the length wasn't exact and the numbers didn't match. I was ready to physically choke and injure somebody(lol) now I don't use and break them off as prybars and try to exchange weekly, they were all pre 2005 and some way older. ratchets I have exchanged more often, but they get sloppy from teeth wear and springs break making them not ratchet right, I don't use as breaker bars or hammers either. lol

I bought a mattress in a box for my sister & her husband. It basically was stuck in Milwaukee FedEx for a month. Both the company I ordered the mattress from and I talked to FedEx many times. Even the regional manager is unable to talk to that FedEx station to get a status on that package. The mattress company shipped another mattress out and this time, they bypassed Milwaukee FedEx and had it hauled all the way up from Chicago to my sister's place north of Milwaukee. Six weeks later, a unmarked white van pulls into her driveway, the door slides open and 2 guys toss out the missing mattress. The original box was suppose to be 18" x 18" x 48", but this thing was like 24" by 48" by 60". They must have mishandled the mattress and it started to inflate (kinda like those self-inflating rubber boats). They had wrapped it up in many layers of shrink wrap and simply tossed it on her lawn. I took pix and sent to the mattress company. They told us they could send someone out to dispose of that for us or we could keep it. Now my sister has TWO kingsize Big Fig mattresses.

Ford/Ferguson made a similar jack for the old small Fergies and 8N's and similar. Only the jack, went directly under the axle housing while the lift arms were hooked up. Raise up, lifts the tractor, lower the arms, it drops to the ground. That may be the case in your area Wes but, in my area, Craftsman/Sears, won't do that any more. Now, Craftsman back in the day, were just as top notch as Snap-on and Mac tools. Today, if I had to choose, I'll go with Mac. I have no experience with Gear Wrench tools. I have the old Craftsman tools that are 40+ yrs old. Wes, save yourself a headache when you dump that oil in your burner, get a coffee filter and pour the oil through that, will catch everything you don't want inside that burner.

Out of all the years we’ve run case and new holland tractors I’ve never worn out a break disc I’ve only worn out the o rings on the break piston. Same basic process to replace though fairly easy process. I usually order break discs but never end up using them because the ones in the tractor usually never have wear. Kind of weird for how heavy they are you would think they would wear more on the New Holland’s but I have never worn a set out yet. Last one I pulled apart was at just shy of 14k hours.

The friction material on that disc is exactly why it pays off to use John Deere fluid in the transmission/hydraulic system. The additives are different from common hydraulic fluid to protect the friction material and stop brake chatter. With as much metal wear as there is, you would be wise to flush the system and change all the filters!

adjust the magical "track jack" and put the safety jacks down onto the ground, so it takes all the load off the hydraulics with the hitch topped out. not a farmer, but it further looks like you'll have to support it some other way and remove that magical jack and the hitch assembly to get at the brakes anyway. still seems convenient using the tractor hydraulics to lift itself for cribbing up

we get new John Deere tractors every year and have had a fair share of trouble with the wheel hubs on the 8000 and 9000 series tractors. Craftsman has always been able to provide tools that were not the "best", ... but that were "good enough" for their intended use. And that's the thing about "bargain basement" tools, ... sometimes, for occasional use, they too can prove to be "good enough". If you earn your living turning wrenches everyday, and you want to spend your money on Snap-On tools, more power to you, ... but Armstrong, Williams, MAC, Proto and a host of others will serve you equally well. Yes, there's a great deal of humor in hearing a 14 year-old self-righteously proclaim "I've never seen" or "I've never heard of" something or the other, when honestly, sonny, we can fill volumes with the things YOU'VE never seen.

I call um snap off tools. Worked on farm equipment and cars most of my life. Was hired on at a shop and came in with Pittsburgh tools from harbor freight. In 2004. Left auto mechanics in 2009. All but one socket is still working just fine. I split my 3/4 when I put it on a impact. But you ever wonder why that snap on truck is outside the shop almost every day. They snapped off. Every day someone there was replacing some snap on tool. Us mechanics use what works. Parts pullers use snap off. And there’s a lot of them in mechanics shops.

Man I’ve been using Carlyle everything since I bought my first tool box. They have a really similar setup to the flank drive snap on uses, and tbh the socket clearance is about as spot on as I’ve found with any snap on tool my buddy has. Now I will say that sometimes I’ve gotten wrenches or sockets where the chrome isn’t perfect, but u know what, after a week in my shop it ain’t gonna be perfect anyway. I just use the wd40 rust inhibitor on everything like twice a year. For cleaning them up I keep a rag with some of it soaked in and the wipe down is really easy. Anyone that claims you’re a novice or rookie for using a certain brand probably ain’t that wise themselves. I use what works. Kobalt, craftsman, Carlyle, icon etc. icon is also really good from my experience. Now I have some snap on pliers and knipex stuff. Wera screw drivers and some old unmarked stuff from god only knows when. All of it works just fine!

I would say you are a bit late dealing with those brakes ideally. If you do it preventatively routinely 4/5000 hrs you will just get away with only having to change the disc instead of all 3 parts. Much cheaper and much lower risk of dirt and filings going through your transmission pump etc. Could turn out very expensive on an IVT.

Snap On tools are good the real question is are they twice as good as other tools? Since they cost twice as much the question is one Snap On wrench as good as two of another brand? On some of the brands it's not so much the quality of the tool but the question is how much longer are they going to be in business. I have some Bonney and Vlechk that are every bit as good as Snap on but if you break one you're done as the tools outlived the company that made them. I have a lot of SK Tools but they keep on re-organizing and their dealers wax and wane.
