I feel anyone who does any kind of sales or heating with firewood for their home, say anything over 3+ cords a year, would be wise to go commercial splitter. I use my passed down I-beam store bought, but if I did anything extensive, no way would I want to use that machine. Additionally, time matters. IMO, it matters more than money or anything else. It's priceless. Why waste time if you don't need to? Lastly, you may not be a salesman Gord, but I imagine all would say you would make the best one any of us have experienced lol. Great run-through you did here. I always liked the vertical concept and Eastonmade hit the preverbal home run designing one.

Great video Gord. You definitely are not a sales pitch channel, in fact, you give out the facts as well as the pros and cons, the thoughts that float in our minds, in a kind and straight forward fashion. Much like Chris from In The WoodYard way as well as Tony from Tony’s Cool Tools. We may not all need what you are discussing but it answers a lot of questions when we might pull the trigger based on the great information you all give, from people who have the experience and knowledge. EastonMade is hands down a great company and builds a quality splitter that is much the same, well executed and designed to last and do the job effectively. Cost more yes, but you know what you are getting and should anything break, EastonMade will back it up and send you the parts to fix the issue as well as how to fix it should that ever happen. I definitely would consider the Ultra with the single wedge and the four way and now the Axis. Great splitters and loads of videos on them. Stay safe and keep the great videos coming. 👍🏻👍🏻

Great advice and a lot of pretty good info . yes I have worked with wood all my life. believe it or not we use to drag 8 foot logs by hand out of the woods for about a mile or two. I was one of the boys that would climb a widow maker and ride it down. Only my brother and I were the ones to do the widow makers the rest of my brothers didn't dare to. Yeah it was scary and I could tell you many close calls..

@@GPOutdoors Oh Boy could I tell you some Stories. Even nutty stories like a time I chased a bear with a cast on my foot. One bear I chased was by a school a lot of kids were out playing at the school. I saw something black moving closer to where the kids were. I had just got a cast on my foot from the Doctors and had the driver pull over. I got out and saw the Bear was not paying attention it was still heading over to where the kids were. So I went after it. I got close and started yelling at the Bear. The bear looked at me as if to say really this guy is nutz. I didn't stop I kept going after it and it took off. Mean while the teachers saw this and was getting the kids safely back in the school. When the bear was out of sight I just went home.

It is really hard to beat any of the commercial vertical splitters if you are a solo firewood operation. When your firewood processing begins in earnest, I think the way you have the site setup will keep those trailers filled as fast as any of you can unload them.
@amandadavis97263 ай бұрын
You’re absolutely correct on that. I have a Super Split HD, and quickly figured out the most efficient workflow for it. My setup is the rounds stacked directly behind me with my trailer on the other side of the splitter to toss into. I’m looking forward to this splitter being delivered this fall.

Totally agree Gord. I just don't have the money for a rig that big. Even the entry level rig with tax included is $7900. That is 2x-3x the price of most other "normal" models......and that is not even the hydraulic lifting one, which will end up running you $14k or more. Unless you have 3-5 guys to share the cost with, that puppy is out of reach for most of us guys. I'd love to have it, but can't justify the cost. Cheers.......and see if you can play some Thin Lizzy or Montrose in a video, for us old timers.......or better yet some David Wilcox (the Canadian one, of course)

LOL! Some good tunes for sure Andrew. I will. Yes makes good sense. Several pieces of equipment you see from time to time on the channel is just that. A few neighbours share ownership of them so they can purchase high quality equipment and share it between them. Makes good sense since each person does not need to buy the same type of equipment and between them, it gets good use. Cheers and thanks!

Was wondering next time you are filming the splitter if you could maybe mount one of your cameras to you helmet? This would give us a operators bird's eye view as what it looks like when you are operating it. While side view are good sometimes they tend to distort distances and your hands look way to close to the wedge. Love your videos and you are correct in sizing the splitter you want to what you will be using it for. While the AXIS is a great machine it is most likely over kill for a single homeowner only splitting a few cord of wood a year.

Is the throttle on this adjustable? It looked like there was a dial to the right of the key to set max engine speed as you showed. Yet when I asked Marc at Eastonmade, he said it either runs at the auto idle low speed or the factory calibrated full speed. There was no in between. I asked him to double check with Andrew. I thought adjustable throttle would be nice for a novice operator like myself. This is a fast machine and I’d like to get comfortable with it and develop safe working habits before taking risk at higher speeds.

Any chance you could get an accurate measurement of the height? I was debating getting the Axis, but wanted to keep it stored in the garage or barn when not in use. Wondering if I can use the fork pockets and my loader to tilt it a bit to fit through an 8’ door.
@GPOutdoors5 ай бұрын
Hey good afternoon. So very sorry for not responding yet. I will be up there again later next week and will go measure it up and get back to you. Cheers!
@GPOutdoors5 ай бұрын
Hey good morning Guy and Husky Bob were kind enough to drive out to it and get the measurements yesterday. :) With the conveyor up, the total height is 10 foot 4 inches and with the conveyor down, it is 8 foot 8 inches to the top of the cylinder ( give or take). It is resting on the forest floor so they tried to get as accurate as possible. Good luck!
@HybridWoodworks5 ай бұрын
@@GPOutdoors Thank you so much! I wasn’t planning on getting the conveyor since I’m using it for personal use mainly and can just toss it into a small trailer. Hoping I don’t regret that! The 8’ 8” measurement to the top of cylinder is probably close enough that if I tilt it towards the operator side with the forks, it should squeeze in.

I think you would shorten your split time even more if you split off the left side every time. You were splitting the first piece off the left side the splitting that from the right causing you to shuffle the pieces more. Just saying.
@GPOutdoors5 ай бұрын
LOL! Hey great point and very true. I had multiple cameras filming so I try to split based on the side the camera is filming on. But yes, 100% agree, cameras notwithstanding, splitting off to the left is best and most efficient. Cheers Big Jim! 🙂

Not being a jerk at all, but would you personally pay that much for that splitter?
@GPOutdoors19 күн бұрын
Good morning Derek, you aren't at all - it is a very good question. Personally, with 4 acres and a small need to split wood, I would not. I would buy something i could pull on the ATV, but for sure, I would buy something quality built. If I was splitting a large number of cords, and or selling wood, I would buy it for sure. Up here, with several good neighbours and friends, we would most likely buy it between us, as we have done with other pieces of equipment, since we all use it throughout the year, and as many are aging, this setup is so much easier for them to manage the rounds. Thanks for the Q, and have a great week out there!
