But overshadowing that was the news that Michael Gove is joining the growing exodus of Tory MPs. It's good news for the Liberal Democrats, who were already eyeing up his Surrey constituency as a Blue Wall target.

It was a cynical ploy to suggest that the triple lock was honoured, after the year that "special reasons" meant it could not The new regime effectively means means testing pensioners who had put a bit away for their retirement. Regarding furlough: Covid reached continental Europe before it did the Uk. Comparable continental countries locked down...and created a furlough scheme. The tories had a furlough scheme because 1) they did not want to look bad next to France and co 2) they knew from the start it would be a golden opportunity for their chums.
