@@filip9587 Absolutely, but don't do what Bret did here and make it look like it was AMD's fault. The moron should have led off, and put in the title, that it's an ASUS issue. AMD has nothing to do with it other than unfortunately having to put their awesome 3D chips in ASUS's garbage motherboards. Just avoid ASUS from here on out and all the problems go away.

I also run expo ii, but with tighter manual timings and manually set voltages. Checked my cpu and socket yesterday, and theres no issues with either. Looks like someone at asus made a big oops with voltage tables as all bios revisions except those dated 4/21 and the previous beta are currently listed for all asus am5 motherboards on their support site.

We do know something. AMD and Board manufacturers have released a statement. Basically AMD is protecting their x3d series chip thru their software because of how sensitive it is to overclocking... But some board have BIOS that actually override AMD's driver and managed to disable said protection while running the EXPO profile. Which resulted in extra voltage delivered to the cpu but no voltage restrictions and thermal protection activating. The fault is in AMD. Because they actually hardcoded the voltage restriction on their cpu. But it somehow fails miserably.

It's an overclocking problem, AMD outright said that the x3D CPUs are not meant to be overclocked, they are unstable at those higher clock speeds that's why they are locked. What is it going to take for people to understand that?
@Nick_Morningstar
@Nick_Morningstar Жыл бұрын
@@Dhruv-qw7jf pretty much that is it. Hell these chips are already fast enough overlocking isn’t really need anymore though I will miss those times when overlocking did bring some pretty good performance gains
@catch22frubert
@catch22frubert Жыл бұрын
@@Dhruv-qw7jf Its not at all an overclocking problem like you are making it out to be. It's because of memory overclocking using the Expo settings and timings in the BIOS. Asus has something screwed up in the BIOS, which is causing the memory controller in the CPU to overheat really bad. Not all memory controllers are made equal in modern CPUs. Some are better than others. Just like you can get a golden sample CPU or GPU that overclocks easily with low voltage, the memory controller on each CPU also has its own quality. You can get a CPU that is above average, average, or below average in defects, and same thing goes for the memory controller in each CPU. It seems like the lower quality memory controllers in some CPUs, plus whatever Asus screwed up on in the BIOS ends up overworking the memory controller inside the CPU and it gets so hot that it's damaging the CPU and the AM5 socket, which kills both the CPU and motherboard together. To avoid any damages, just don't turn on the Expo overclock for your RAM. It's the same thing as XMP if you are an Intel fan or you just happen to know how to set up an Intel computer. Most people build a PC and the first thing they do is turn on XMP so their RAM can run as fast as possible and not fall down to the base memory speed of 4800mhz on DDR5. Everyone I've seen with a Ryzen 7000 CPU has been fine using Expo settings to get their RAM to run in the 6000mhz CL30 sweet spot. The memory controller in the 7800X3D must be more sensitive and have more defects than the regular 7700X.

You are safe dw about it. This was mainly an issue on the asus MB's. I am sure they have also fixed it by now but I heard some people who still had some issues with the asus motherboards.

Hey guys, please i REALLY need some help. I recently asked a friend of mine to make me a build, and he suggested me to buy a ryzen 7800x3d and an asus prime b650 plus. And now I'm sooo afraid reading all of this, just PLEASE guys tell me EXACTLY what to do in order to not burn anything. I'm pretty ignorant in this field, sorry in advance
@Dobermanator

Steve is not accredited to look into this, none of his equipment is even calibrated, and just like whats reported here in this video, Steve could cause the hardware to burn using his methodology. See, I can do it too. If it was Intel, you all would be saying, it's a simple BIOS fix, no worries. Steve can't possibly know if it's BIOS related or not, he can only guess, or go by what they give him.

The cpu voltage limits from expo sounds like the issues. Now most buy because the performance, now would like to see if they are not so good in the benchmarks after the bios updates and non use of expo. I have just bought and changed to amd from intel, i am really annyed to be trusting amd,i have done this before and amd system was gone in weeks, never had issues with intel. I knew i woudl regretchangig ti the am5 for the upgarde path. Wish i went 13900ks what an idiot i am. Gut feeling trust it always. Mines sat here still sealed in boxes, no intel ks chips about l, looks like i am stuck withthe amd.

@@96kylar im aware that we don't get any AM4 cpus anymore. But given that my father buys a new pc every 5years or so, it doesn't matter when it comes to upgradability. Am4 mobos are cheap as hell now and ddr4 aswell Price difference to am5+cpu+dram would have been almost 400€

Yea expo don’t know how to act right. Having it enabled with the 79503d makes the whole computer black screen at times when your pc is at its peak. After a while I just Stopped enabling it in bios.
