I don’t think men that cry over this religion Islam, are weak in the slightest. My dad would cry whenever he spoke about the prophet(pbuh) and it was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen as a little girl. I’ve never seen him cry for anything other than this religion and to me, that’s a man. He was strong enough for this world and it’s affairs knowing it’s temporary but weak for Allah the most high and His religion.

It's frustrating to see the topic of Mental Health still being highly being misunderstood and associated with something bad in our community. I've been through mental health struggles myself and I can tell you it is not something I wish for anyone to experience. It was after I went through therapy I found content and happiness with what Allah has decreed for me. Not because I thought otherwise before, but because I understood what was happening. Alhamdulillah that did not make to be further faway from Him 'azza wa jal. May Allah always keep us on this straight path, ameen. It's okay not to understand the concept of mental health, but it's not right to associate it with wrong meanings to it nor to assume it belongs to the group of people who have lost hope in Allah. One thing is going through hardships whilst remaining healthy, which can be comforted with good reminders and examples of the prophets (alayhum salam). Another thing is going through something that causes you distress to the point you can't live properly, despite having a good life. May Allah ease out the pain and suffering our brothers and sisters are going through, ameen.

everyone goes throught a mental health issues we heal by the remeberance of allah and keep steady in treatment with the strength that allah bless's us with but some people do not seek the benefit of remeberance of allah and just focus on the treatment by it self, and some people chose to let say to display or go with the trend of being anxious or having some kind of mental problem for social media seek, someone i know i opened up to and i wish i didnt since they have some mental issue problems and i suggested reading quran to help them stay strong as it benefited me, and that theres healing in it they bashed me for suggesting it astgfr allah saying it does not help, i think mental health is important and it is talked bout alot now, it just that people starting to take it as trend which is bad, and muslims fall for what the west gives them, we human are strong and can handle a lot its just the enviroment made us weak, and as people of faith we get our strength from allah where the unbeliever feel lost due to not being able to fill the void theres a diffrence between us amen

Interesting conversation baarak Allahu feekoum. I do think it's very important to make a distinction between general sadness and (clinical) depression as a mental illness. The latter is a real sickness which actually can be shown in your brain. Same goes for other mental illnesses. And shifaa always comes from Allah.

You said the words that I had in my head all this time!! Self fulfilling prophecy exactly. Even though I’m a girl and we have crazy emotions I totally reside with the fact we need to understand it’s okay to be sad but it is not going to take control of you unless you let it, be sad, cry but get back up. Don’t feel sorry for yourself, what are you? Your life problems are minute to what others could be going through. In other words Stand up!

Our parents are a great example, they went through crazy things and managed to soldier through everything. Mainly because the exposure to mental health wasn’t widespread. Not saying that was good but both then and now are two extremes. We need to find a middle ground for this because the next generation will just break at whatever life gives them

I cared for them until death. Washed my mother for the earth , how then can I not visit her ? Actually I rarely cry in public . I was told it’s a weakness and as a child ;I was told to shut up and not cry . So it’s programmed into me and I do so in private . I know it’s not a sign of weakness .

Crying when you feel stressed, experiencing grief is good for you mentally... it is a great release of stress hormones and is a self-soothing behaviour. So maybe men should cry and let it all out, it decreases cortisol production. If you store it all up you could be heading for physical health problems too.. Go and have a good cry in the bathroom... who's going to know and you'll feel better afterwards.

It’s weird but sometimes I apprehend reading a new surah cuz I’m afraid I can’t cry and my heart is too dark for that… I wish I could know why I don’t cry (mostly I think it’s because I don’t understand without clear explanations, I don’t get it right away but I don’t know) may Allah guide and forgive us, Ameen

Absolutely nothing wrong with crying. It is a very healthy outlet. It’s very sad that men need to keep up appearances even when they are all by themselves. As women there’s nothing wrong with us crying, or asking a friend or a loved one for help or even getting professional help for any mental health problems we’re having. We take care of ourselves much better than men do. Please fellas, take care of yourselves! You have people that love you and want you in their life.

Without getting too technical and cute, and as someone who has suffered with mental illness, i think mental health is simply referring to if a person has mental illness or not. Perhaps some may even take it as how a person is doing mentally, simple as that. Most common mental illness would be depression and i have been through it. What would i say it is? It's not just simple sadness or even heavy sadness for a few days or whatever short period. It's heavy sadness constantly. How would a person get into that state? It's usually cases where he feels hopeless and there's no way out of his situation or at least it's looking like that. An example would be, especially in today's day and age, a muslim youth bombarded with doubts about Allah and his religion, to the point where he falls into doubt and cycles of doubt for many years and cannot get out.

One thing these brothers fail to appreciate, is that if Allah wants you to be affected by even the smallest of things it will be big for you. Conversely, if Allah wants to make something big a small for you, then it will be. Quran 2:155 “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient”. If someone thinks depression is not real, I don’t think they’ve been tested to that degree. Should thank Allah he’s not allowed you to feel it yet. Otherwise, it would definitely resonate. Resilience and tolerance is also a gift

I really appreciate this podcasts they are mostly very beneficial and motivate me to think about specific stuff that was not on my mind sometimes. But please do not speak about mental health issues like they do not exist do not downplay a disease that has killed millions. Just because you don’t understand the issue does not mean it doesn’t exist. And it got nothing to do with Iman or islam there is people that are the closest to Allah and the most practicing and they suffer from depression and need medicine. Islam does not prevent you from depression but islam helps you to deal with depression it supports you and prevents bigger harm like suicide.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with crying, you're expressing an emotion. There is a problem if you're ashamed or embarrassed to cry, when its bottled up under a cap of "masculinity" or being a "man" thats when it turns into anger rage and unhealthy coping mechanisms which will really destroy your life and everyone you love. Don’t take this as advice for women. It was specifically mentioning men rather take advice regarding women for women. So that you don’t mix any of them. But women are women they are more emotional, no one looks down upon a woman for crying. But there are still extremes. You still can’t cry excessively, but general crying is more common.
