Fake agency, most combat is automatic.
0:50 7 Reasons to Back (Late Pledge) Slay the Spire: The Board Game
1:00 1. rulebook is in serif, and it's good.
Serif signals maturity of dev.
1:50 2. You're interested in the difference between bg and vg
Call it research...
- Different things to unlock (yourself) if you like that stuff.
- BG starts with 4 chars unlocked, in vg only 2 unlocked.
- seed in vg, not in bg
3:40 3. All these positive reviews can't be wrong, right?
Tons of positive reviews who played Act 1 to the end, once.
4:05 4.With no steam mod, you can play with friends.
4:30 5. You have friends that you can regularly play with.
But how often will you?
Any bg would do, but StS would be fun.
4:50 6 You have friends. for solo... you love unlockables and secret boxes and shit.
5:10 7. You love the physicality of the board game medium
- but how often do you play such board games?
5:25 Reasons not to back STS
5:41 1. It's too expensive - see
slaythespire.backerkit.com/ho...
But is it, really?
For comparison,
- 800 cards like in Isofarian Guard roughly were including shipping also close to €200 and those prices went up.
- Another: Arydia, same amount, higher price tag (talking about inc shipping).
- Zerywia - 700 cards, and a little cheaper but not much.
- The Veil same amount of cards, but costs above $300.
Counter examples:
- Thunderstone Numenera hundreds of cards, cost second hand around $40-50.
- Heroes of Tenefyr - hundreds of cards, you can probably get it for $70.
So the asking price for new is reasonable.
Regardless, to get it now DOES cost you - will you redeem that money when it's your turn to sell... I think not.
6/:26 2. you will never get your money back.
To get to $2/h/p you would have to play it for 75 hours.
You could sell it while it's hot, for $10 loss, but wait a month and you would compete with other sellers, which can cost you a loss of $50.
Then you played for 10 hours at a loss of 50 plus the effort of checking the contents, finding a good transport protection, shipping it, ensuring the owner got fulfilled... Takes half a day.
7:30 3. tablespace is not mentioned
The USP is to play a roguelike multiplayer on the table. Much like Doomrock - how often is that gonna happen?
8:30 4. we don't know about the sleeve durability.
This is a thing - Paperback Adventures also uses sleeves with opaque back and there are several reports of them splicing. Company here at least accounted for that to add more sleeves than necessary. But if they're not durable that's not going to help you.
8:45 5. gameplay is pretty samey in vg. In bg it just takes longer.
If you agree that turn by turn is samey, and the richness lies in the entire run itself, well you're looking at much longer stretches of time in the bg version.
9:30 6. Ascension diffi is only doable with multi heroes - two handed.
Synergy is needed. To get past the first acensions you would need to play multi handed, and then the video game would appeal much more.
Ascension is a thing (much like Torment levels in Diablo 3) - people doing Ascension 20 are better than who play Ascension 10. For those people backing is a complete non issue.
10:40 7. 4000 backers - who will realize the game was fun for act 1
and not anymore, are looking to sell it.
11:10 8. never back first editions.
Given the massive success in the BG,
it makes 100% sense to financially follow up on it with expansions.
They are (at the highest pledge level) already available as beta cards, but you can rest assured that there will be a reprint. Regardless of the fact the vg doesn't change... StS2 the vg is in development.
Lots of people are talking about extra cards in social media.
There will be fan expansions in a few years.
11:59 Many much cheaper games that are roguelike just the same.
Also consider Ruins:Death Binder, and Dead Cells. I did back Dead Cells, and played R:DB

Listing 791 reasons to back a game in under 13 minutes is pretty impressive. Though haven't got through the whole video yet, and you've only said a few so far, so I assume the second half of the video is the speed round.

This video was for board gamers considering the board game, people who usually have an attention span of 12 minutes or more. In case you are a Slay the Spire video game expert, you were not the intended audience.

lmao bro you played the game for at most 1 week complaining about solo being too difficult. People used to say A20 in the game was impossible to do consistently and now people are getting insane winrates. Skill issue stop complaining and gid gud

This video was made for board gamers who doubt whether or not to buy the board game while late pledge was open. Since I was considering to back yes or no while the clock was ticking. Slay the Spire experts hollering A20 never were the intended audience. I learned more about StS, and on video gamer culture, than I ever wanted to. People from my bubble usually mind their manners, and are capable of a little beyond "lmao bro gid gud".
