Once upon a time the only 85mm f/1.8 that you could buy was the overpriced Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8, allegedly a Tamron design. Now there are so many options I have lost track.

I still love my Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.8 G lens but in comparison, this 7Artisans lens looks very sharp in the center. I would get this 7Artisans if I didn't already have an 85.
@zachsteiner6 ай бұрын
That’s a great lens. I still love mine and intend to stick with it and DSLR for a while longer as thanks to mirrorless cameras, you can get DSLR lenses very cheap. All I need is a super telephoto zoom and my collection will be complete.

Biggest oddity to me is... the lenshood. It is one of a wide angle! 😮🤔 Bokeh does look fab in deed

Hi Chris, love your reviews which I have found to be very accurate and telling of the lens quality. I just watched Dustin Abbot's review of the same lens a few minutes ago. His sample does not seem to have the same corner softness issue when shot at f1.8 and lens gets substantially sharper in the corners at f2.8. Perhaps a sample variation?
@trollfiddler6 ай бұрын
I was wondering about the same thing. The QA must be pretty bad to get such large differences when the test methods are so similar. It might be pot-luck whether you get a good or fairly bad copy.
@bizpixvegas76516 ай бұрын
@@trollfiddler Very True. Returning a bad copy to Amazon is easy but buying it direct form the manufacturer and returning may not be so easy.

i dont think native lenses are worth it for the enthusiasts anymore. 3rd party lenses have become just that much better
@bluehonour026 ай бұрын
One correction: lenses like this are also native lens, because they are produced for the same lens mount. Probably you mean 1st party lenses.
@ronjenkins42576 ай бұрын
And native lenses have become just that much more expensive. A dilemma is posed for Canon shooters however. The improved 3rd party lenses (with auto focus especially) are generally not available, and Canon's native lenses for the enthusiast market are overpriced.

Yes. And also the lack of or weak indent on the "A" setting of the aperture ring. We could, hardly, feel it in the 50mm f1.8 although the ring has a rather tight feel to it. Also for the focus ring.
