Lisa Cunningham is the only Australian woman to ever face the death penalty in the United States. The Adelaide mum could be executed by lethal injection over the first degree murder of her stepdaughter. This epic legal battle, underway in Arizona, is anything but clear-cut. Cunningham was charged after seven-year-old Sanaa died in hospital, which she claims was because of poor medical treatment. But prosecutors are accusing Cunningham and her husband of systematic child abuse and neglect. Matt Doran speaks to her in an exclusive interview.

It may have not been the wrong drug. There is so much more to this story I'm certain. A lot of times these kids don't realize they are in pain so the mom may have not even known the little one was sick.
@DanaWhittenMyLife
@DanaWhittenMyLife 4 жыл бұрын
@Maria Kelly not certain why what I said is ridiculous. How about you read what I said to understand not to argue. There are children who process pain differently and a caregiver has no indication the child is ill at all. I have a child like this. Just because you have no understanding of this issue doesn't make it not true.

We will never know what really happened, I wasn't there - none of us were..... But - I went to America once too..... I was at a mall just having lunch at the outside cafe, and a kid on a skateboard came flying past grabbed my bag and next thing I know the kid was (so it seemed) doing a flip mid air.... a young American fella arm barred him and his mates held him on the ground until the police arrived... I was furious as I had carefully wrapped in my bag a glass blown figurine as a present for my mum.... it was completely destroyed. When I gave my statement to the police, I was so angry and agitated that one of the officers handed me a bottle water sat me down and asked silly questions about australia until he had be laughing.... then he said, much better - how about we try this statement again. Done. That was it to my experience with american officers..... Oh, and ps... the kid (23yrs old) on the skateboard..... was a Brit on holidays with his mates. I was in the States for 6 weeks, and apart for that incident.... I met so many amazing people.... americans. And I will be going back for another holiday next year....... Judging a nation on the bones of this case - is no different then other countrys who think we feed our babies to the dingos due to the bones of one Australian case.....

Indeed. But I sincerely hope they're innocent & were let down by a failing system grinding under its own weight. And by a string of medical professionals, one of whom allegedly prescribed strong medication to a child he/she never examined: Anti-psychotic medications can have serious toxic side effects even in adults, never mind children. The liver, kidneys, digestive system, skin, eyes & brain can be heavily impacted. Meanwhile, I love it how mothers who don't have custody of their children & who seemingly did little to nothing to help their children whilst they could have. Crawl out of the woodwork, with their SJW lawyers, when the same children die: Playing the victim. But where was this little girls biological mother when her little girl needed her? Nowhere by the sound of it.

Last year I had a bit of cold and a cough that lingered on for about 3 weeks. My Dr said that I didn't need antibiotics and I need to just ride it out. One night I went to bed feeling fine after working all day. I woke up around 2am with pain in my ribs and was shaking. I took paracetamol, it didn't work. After about 1 hour, I called an ambulance, my temp was 41. Long story short, I had pneumonia and because it was not treated, the infection spread to my blood, therefore Sepsis. I ended up in ICU for a couple of days. Then, I was transferred to the Respiratory Failure ward and was there for another week. My point is, Sepsis can come on fast and IT can kill. I am so thankful for the life saving treatment I received. I live in Australia.

People should really hear both sides of a story before they comment. The couple’s own text messages to each other described zip tying the child, all four limbs, spread eagle on the basement floor in her dirty diaper all night long as punishment for her peeing on the basement floor. You wouldn’t do that to a rabid dog. Knowing the US medical system, I can almost guarantee they were offered putting the child in an institution, keeping in mind that is always a last resort.

Since the real mother found out Saanm was sick why couldn't she get her daughter? Why did the father ended up with both girls. What wrong with the girls own mum caring for the children. ? All the children ended up in care including Saanm biological sister WHY? The story is told one sided. THE real story must be told. If Saanm biological mother had no issues surrounding her living circumstances then the other child should return home to her mother. MAYBE all the children should be allowed to return to their parents and the parents should be given freedom.

Being a loving parent of a special child, I can say the parents did not have a role in this child’s death. I think the child was misdiagnosed, as my son has been. I think the cry for help as a parent is REAL and this mother did just that. I think the pastor/lawyer who recited all his positions in his life as if he’s God and the know it all, has zero experience with special needs children especially the behavior of this child; very similar to my son and it’s tough. But as tough as it is, you love them so much, sometimes more than other children. I think the punishments were a bit harsh, but I believe the parents had absolutely no idea the severity of this child’s mental dysfunction. These children do not want to be this way, but they can’t help themselves. The worst part of all this is there really is no help because no one knows how to treat these children. It is so difficult and unless you walked in my shoes and this mother’s shoes, trust me, you have no idea.

Na'a had and has A WONDERFUL biological mother!! She was just kept away from her. Don't believe everything you see and hear, especially concerning this case. Go do your research! Germayne and Lisa are right where they're suppose to be... Her autopsy said sepsis... They allowed her to lay in bed, after beating and abusing her, and not get treated which allowed allowed infection to set in.... Hence the sepsis.... When Na'a was buried, she laid in that casket with bruises (and proof of abuse) all over her little body AND a huge knot on her head. They couldn't get her the help she needed bc they were too busy covering all that they had been doing to her. They thought they would continue to get away with it but you won't get away long when you mess with one of God's innocent angels. Now her sister and mother continue to heal...

Bet the "mum" had no problem collecting that social security check for little Sa'na. Schizophrenia and sepsis are 2 worlds apart. For me, ALOT of ths things they say this little girl was doing are also signs & actions of a young child being abused. Even if this child truly had a psych condition, who makes that child stand outside for hours raking rocks & picking up dog feces???? Ties them in a room?? Ugh, they are just disgusting. How can a mother be sentence to death where all of those professionals clearly failed this child and family. There was no intervention or support which they clearly needed. Once there is a sense of disbelief and a mother's ability is questioned it's a shame that it's not the same for The Professionals who failed this child. It tears my heart apart to see her daughter in so much pain. It shouldn't be the parents who have been charged it should have been the Professional who failed this child and family, yet again. That is definitely distributing if that is true. 2. There are sooo many allegations, she denied them, how juries were able to convict them? In criminal, typically it has to be beyond reasonable doubts .. strange.. lastly what is heck her real mother is doing giving the child to the father?

My issue with people passing judgment on what they “would have done” is that you don’t really know unless you have been or are in the situation. While I haven’t been around a schizophrenic child, I’ve had close contact with a schizophrenic adult. It’s like nothing you can ever imagine. I have seen people reach out for help again and again and, I can’t speak for the US, but where I’m at hospitals will resist taking a patient long term while there is family around…even if that family is no longer coping. Very sad. I wish there was more support in society for severe mental illness.

This can affect your brain and behavior. The worst part is making her pic dog facet

Pastor! Take a seat bruhhh🙄.... your supposed to be doing Gods work🤦🏽‍♀️! You bring up your achievements to becoming former police officer, lawyer but you didn't bring out being Gods disciple the first important thing you should describe yourself as! But hey, God will always at the end of the day will enlighten the truth.

I read some of the texts from another website because something is missing. She wasnt the perfect step mom, far from it. The girl wasnt her biological daughter so her patience was stretched thin. The little girl was behaviorally challenged due to her medical condition and it was to much for the stepmom who already had her hands full. After reviewing the facts the stepmom was a bad stepmom and should be prosecuted for child abuse but not murder. Everyone failed this girl not just the stepmom. It was a bad recipe with a tragic result. So sad.

Exactly. Neglect would make more sense than murder. Also,where neighbours say that little girl was being punished by picking up dogs poo in their backyard, I wonder if it was in the early days when they thought that the girl was just misbehaving and being difficult and the parents were punishing her that way to see if that can curb the behaviour not knowing that she is actually sick.

The state are always looking for someone to blame, as a deflection from their failings. Being a mother/parent is hard. If someone is at a systematic disadvantage, the state have a duty of care FACT. They did not support her or the father to be better parents. The system makes me so angry. Using the death penalty as a population control 🙄.

I'm sorry but it doesn't work like that. Arizona is a long way outside the jurisdiction of Australian law. The crime (if the little child were murdered) was committed in America, the victim (again, assuming she was murdered) was American, the father is American.
@MultiChrisjb
@MultiChrisjb 4 жыл бұрын
That doesn't make sense legally, in either the Australian or US law system. You are tried in the jurisdiction that you allegedly committed the crime. Its why people are extradited from say Queensland to Victoria, to stand trial.

Because thanks to her husbands history with the criminal justice system she was ignored by everyone along the way, as her ex and his new wife got a pass everytime police and dcs was called on them by multiple witnesses. Maybe you should go look at reports not by a country trying to make there own look innocent.

What makes distortion to me is that she loved "all her children", when two of them weren't her children. Don't know if she did, but you shouldn't make kids call you mom or dad if that's not what's up. It creates dissociation.
