Not exactly. ANC got 40%. If 50% +1 vote in unity for Sipho or Betty , they would become president. But that's unlikely to happen anyway.

@@ProcaviaCapensis-ts8ub my understanding is that only 33% required of members present to elect them, not 50%+1. 50%+1 is required for passing laws.

You dont need a 50+1 vote you just need the most when electing the president , speaker etc.

@@ShawnRademeyer You need 1/3 to form a quorum. Then you are able to have a vote. The guy with the most votes wins. (It doesn't actually need to be 50% of those present if some abstain). Theoretically Ramaphosa could be outvoted. Perhaps we are talking about the same thing.
