I'm not sure how to express this. I could undestand perhaps almost 90% of this. This is amazing for me. Even a month ago that seemed impossible. Maybe it's the cumulative effort. It's only been 6 1/2 moths for me but even if only a little on some days, I worked/work at it every day. I'm still lagging behind in speech and reading comparably speaking but I've got 300 or so kanji down so far. Maybe in another 6 months I can sound close to this! Who knows :) Thanks Steve.

Hey Steve, I am a fluent Japanese speaker, who can read most of the Jouyou Kanji. Now I decided to study Mandarin Chinese. If you have time, could you please make a video about how to learn Chinese as a Japanese speaker or the other way around (since characters are very similar) and what approach to use to learn Chinese characters already knowing the Japanese ones. Do you know any Chinese hanzi books/ lists where you have only the 3000 essential hanzi and their readings, without any tips on how to learn them, because I already went through all this in Japanese. Thanks a lot!

Nahoko Endo Thank you. Please try LingQ for both English and Dutch.
Hey Steve, I was wondering if you could perhaps do a video on 口癖(くちぐせ). Your Japanese ability is quite admirable as I am currently working toward obtaining a high level myself, but one thing that I can't help but notice is the number of times you say ですね when speaking Japanese. Is this because of the audience? Of course I certainly hear it being used in Japanese videos but I feel like you use it quite often. I'm curious to know what you think of them. Are they useful on the road to fluency? Do you think they become a hindrance at higher levels? To give an example, I have a friend who speaks Japanese quite well but he often says なんか in many of the sentences that come out of his mouth. While the sentences he makes are quite good the なんか qwerk is borderline distracting. This same person actually uses "like" a lot when he speaks English. (He is not a native English speaker.) Once again, he is really quite fluent in English as well but the use of "like" so many times actually seems to distract from what he is actually trying to say. Anyway, I'm just curious to hear your thoughts.

Sarah Lindsay I use the teach yourself book with 2 Cd's packet, plus KZbin, and my aunt who is Filipino .
How long has Steve been learning? Amazing! A lot better than the piece of crap Benny Lewis who couldn't manage shit and made absurd claims of reaching N2 in 3 months only to fail spectacularly and then claimed his goal did not ensure proficiency anyway since it had no speaking element and covered reading (which he neglected so as to have any chance at reaching his 'fluency' in speaking only) and then changed his goal to CEFR B2 . I'm pretty sure he hasn't reached proficiency in that new standard now either.
