In that case a cashier could give whatever odds they wanted to someone and they then all stand
@FlawlessLearning2 жыл бұрын
@@strawmanuk Yes, but that would then mean the cashier has committed theft. For example, I used to work at a retail store, and a colleague "accidentally" handed out significantly more change than required. They were fired. If an employee was to give out ridiculous odds, without following their own company rules and policies, I.E. Calling head office and asking for their permission, like they have done in this case, then they could be liable for theft. If the bet and odds are agreed, and accepted by both parties with signed approval from both sides, the bet should stand. The employee is hired and in a position to represent the company, by the company. Therefore, the company should be liable for any actions committed by the employee. If the employee has committed any offences, such as, taking company property, giving away company properties, or as you've suggested, giving out outrageous odds, then the company of course all without approval, then the company can of course investigate, and potentially charge that employee for theft. However with this case, the cashier had phoned and contacted their higher-ups and had gotten the green light to go ahead. So therefore, the bet should stand. This is clearly a tactic used by betting companies to prevent them from paying out big winnings. I do understand that sometimes mistakes happen and miscommunications occur. In that case the company should be working out methods to prevent this from occurring. Otherwise, this "Palpable error" rule can be abused. Imagine going to a casino, winning a 36/1 bet on the roulette table, then to have the floor manager come over and tell you, "Sorry, that dealer isn't supposed to be handling that table, as they are still in training, therefore that round is void." And for that to be ALLOWED, this is a similar situation this is in now. Betting companies do need to be protected for fraud and theft, but so do people who place the bets, to have their bets actually honoured.

£1000 return means he got odds of 10.0. Cube root of 10 is odds of just 2.15 for a team to score 3 goals. The current odds for Brazil against Switzerland is 3.25. Very much seems like he got shafted on the recalculation as-well. They need an independent body to recalculate any 'Palpable' errors. And as a gesture of good will, they could split the difference or something.
@MrMichaeljhinde2 жыл бұрын
I'd guess they were each probably closer to Netherlands to score 3+ vs Qatar (around 2.0) so the 12.16 odds at an average of 2.3 (13/10) each result does sound fair. You'd assume he was smart enough to recognise that which is why he stated he staked much more than he ordinarily would and so likely had some awareness that he'd stumbled across a palp and sought to exploit it. That said, with ones like this that are checked manually by both shop and head office staff it should (IMO) be for the bookies to take it on the chin and pay out - ban the fella from future bets if you think he's pulling some sort of blag. Certainly a big difference from something like a printing error on a betting slip which could easily be something punters bet on without any employee spotting the issue, for which the palp rules seem more reasonable.
@user-he2ou2ex2f2 жыл бұрын
Tbh he probably didn’t get shafted anymore then you normally would from a 3 selection Acca. France to score 3 against Belarus would be shorter then evens. Argentina around 6/5 against Paraguay and wales were nowhere near the level they have been the last 5 years. On top of that you get more goals in qualifying then you do in tournaments which will factor into the price. All in all I don’t think the recalculated fee is necessarily a rip off in terms of the odds you’d expect a bookie to offer.

This is a great channel for those who know little, or nothing, about the game. This is a non story for those in the game. Because bookies in UK don't have to honour bets under UK law. If they don't honour any winning bets they wouldn't have any customers left, so they look for ways to justify not paying large winning bets. If a uk customer gambles on a UK bookies website and wins more than the bookies are happy with their account is limited for future bets or completely shut down. If the punter opens a new account it will also be closed down when they try to place their first bet. The computer system produces a league table of all the customer accounts. The accounts at the bottom are those that lose the most money making them the bookies best and favourite customers. The accounts at the top are the biggest winners and they are bad for business in the eyes of the bookies because if someone wins big they are likely to withdraw and spend the money on real estate holidays and fancy cars. The UK bookies aren't the best caterers for the rich who gamble large sums like bookies in America. The UK rich tend to gamble with offshore bookies. Hope this helps

Why don’t people just place a bet online through an app or site? That way they can automatically transfer the winnings straight to their bank account without having to deal with scams like this
@sham8444 Жыл бұрын
More chance online of trying to log in and being told the account has been flagged for suspicious activity i.e winning.
@daleparker8518 Жыл бұрын
The odds were more likely different online than what was shown in the bookies. Clerical error, but shouldve been flagged by someone at the shop or over the phone.
@jefferysweaty6028 Жыл бұрын
Because sometimes you don't get the best prices online and if you want to be a successful gambler, you have to take the best odds for the best value. Also when you start winning big, maybe a 9k payout, your account is in the shit and they will try their hardest to refuse paying you out.

Technically the guys bet was a loser, his bet was over 3 goals which means each game has to have 4 goals and one game ended up with only 3. for the bet he actually wanted it would have been written as over 2.5 goals and i can guarantee you he wouldn't have got anywhere near 9 grand for that bet. So he's lucky he even got the 1200 that he did.
@jefferysweaty6028 Жыл бұрын
You're wrong, the bet was for each team to score 3 goals or more. All teams scored 3 goals or more. I think in the video there is a visual mistake but in all of the articles about this, the bet was team goals 3 or more. You are thinking of over/unders market on match goals rather than team goals.

They claimed that the odds were for 4 goals and not 3 right? If so, The 4th root of 90 cubed should give the corrected odds. Which should come out to near 30/1. Underpayment of such should be grounds for fraudulent misconduct and false advertising.

They are just like a casino, very happy to take your money and watch you lose and lose and lose but if you start winning or are lucky enough to have a bet like this chaps they absolutely hate it. Nothing but dishonourable to sat the least. I’m not sure if there is any honesty with any of these company’s to be honest.

Coral online casino made me jump through loads of hoops over a 3 week period over a withdrawal of winnings, and it wasn't that much. I was told that they could withhold winnngs at any time. 'Security' or my 'safety' or some other term is used unfairly and inapropriately. Trust Pilot tells of many unhappy punters.

Great vids mate. Moving forward I'd love you to keep going with the format of informing users that betting is objectively against the better to educate people. You could do a genuine unbelievable social service for the country. There has to be a revolution on how gambling works. It needs to be emphasized that winning money isnt something that is possible in the long run when gambling. Most people dont realise this as its too ambiguous with sports betting. In the end its no different than hammering roulette spins. Sports betting usually has worse return than that. I'm sure your gambling content does well considering your history but there is a crossroads where demonstrating your talent will inspire others to think they can do the same with less knowledge in the field... the inverse is you can use your knowledge to inform people just how wrong they are with the rabbit hole that is gambling. I trust you know what the right answer is. Perhaps you can make the best of both worlds, demonstrate loopholes and interesting sides of sports betting but then slamming down the reality of it in the latter half of the video. Keep it up regardless.

I worked for Coral for 11 years and this wouldn’t happen now. SSBT’s make sure that these kinds of things can’t happen. I wouldn’t have took that bet as it’s a nightmare to translate and settle where as the SSBT would do it without having to sign slips or call head office. The palpable error rule is a shitty thing to do regardless and when the bet was placed the tech was in its infancy. Still gotta feel sorry for the guy though and the staff member who lay the bet will obviously have been made out to blame. There’s a very high profile case that I saw with my own eyes involving slips worth hundreds of thousands of pounds that are crazy. If the person involved went to the media it would be a scandal and Coral were afraid of the negative pr.
