Twinkie may not have even known or was misinformed. We don't know that much. But what needs to be remembered is Beyonce still have a soul. I do know that Bey respects the Clark Sisters and Looks Up to them, This much she has spoken of OFTEN, when asked who influenced you. She always say The Clark Sisters!!! I wish ppl would stop conflating being a part of the 'church' with being a part of a congregation... Ppl need to understand there's a huge difference in the two. You can be a part a congregation for a lifetime & still not be a part of the church. I know plenty of (lukewarm) 'church girls' who could be defined in Bey's song line for line... But I also know some CHURCH girls who have been saved, sanctified & filled with the Holy Ghost, who have abandoned their lukewarm, double-minded lifestyles to take their spiritual walk with God seriously. Dr. Mattie Moss Clark was reprimanded by the COGIC powers-that-be when she appeared with her daughters at the Grammy awards, and people freaked out! The sisters, especially Twinkie, received backlash for "You Brought the Sunshine" even crossing genres in 1981, and the saints were rattled. In the 1920s & 1930s, the church lost it when Sis. Rosetta Tharpe (COGIC) literally performed and recorded four sessions with Lucky Millinder's Big Band, and she even sang in The Cotton Club. That was highly scandalous. All that is to say there's nothing new under the sun when it comes to people's reactions to things they don't readily embrace.

You raise a good argument about what women in ministry have gone through. I think it is important to keep Beyonce lifted because it looks like she has experienced some of the same challenges in the secular world. Beyonce may have issues with patriarchy and despises God. If you listen to her music you get hints. She sang a song called if I were a boy. She sang about resentment. It is alleged that her husband cheated and she has had business issues maybe even personal ones with her dad. Beyonce need to understand God is not like man of the flesh. God's patriarchy is not designed to abuse and misuse women. Feelings of rejection can cause Jezebel to creep up. Maybe that's where this song church girl came from. In the song she even mentions having a good time without men being involved.

I still have not listened to the song, so I can't speak on it. BUT"AHM....this whole discussion reminds me so much of other uproars the church has had over music....as if "church" music is somehow "better" than everything else. Music is music.......the universe recognizes it as such. But if you are a person that believes in "God" as a person with human emotions...then you start to add extra psychological/emotional attachments to everything. It's all about the message and intent. Whether the music is causing harm to people or trying to make them cause harm. Ohhh, how the church bucked against "bluesy music" in the early 20th century and banned all kinds of hymns and styles of singing.
