Patrick is an awesome player. His volleys, drop shots, and return of serve are outstanding. He definitely mixed it up and really had Hermont off rhythm. Makes me wonder how the match would have gone if the rain didn't happen. Hermont, though, seems like such an optimistic guy. He never gets down on himself and keeps a smile on his face no matter what. I really believe that mentality is what put him over the top. Oh and he started serving like Samprass for the latter half of the match.

great match. That's the most amount of dropshots I've ever recorded in a 5.0+ match. They were entertaining to watch but didn't give an advantage to either player. Patrick won 2 points and lost 2 off a dropshot, Hermont won 5 but lost 5. Looking at the match stats, the 5+ shot rally lengths were even between both players but Hermont won 6 more free points on his serve and he won 7 more points overall (43 vs 36).

We found Hermont’s weakness! Patrick’s slices were really solid and drew some short balls from Hermot to approach on, and Patrick won a lot of his net points!
@mericusta1988 Жыл бұрын
Vermonts service saved him, otherwise any neutral rally, Patrick’s variation had the upper hand. Patrick will eventually serve faster and more consistent 1st serve. His second serve is amazing. And if he had a tad more aggressive bh shot it would be tough to beat him. His style is fun to watch because it isn’t textbook. He could also polish his loopy deep topspins (e.g Nadal), to extend the variation in his game.
@mchaseross13 Жыл бұрын
Patrick’s first serve has room for improvement though. He lets his toss drop too far and has less leverage over the net to consistently make a first serve. If he can fix that part of his game, he could get lots of cheap or free points, especially with how good he is around the net.

Just found your channel and really enjoy these matches. Both Hermont and Patrick played well. The rain delay certainly didn't help Patrick with the momentum he had at 2-0. The last few games it appeared Hermont used the drop shot & lob a bit more, and his last 2 service games put him over the top. Great match!

6:44 ball was in. Critical point too for hermont. Had he won that point, Patrick would have lost the game and not gotten 6 games. There were other close calls, but i think if you slowed it down, they were for the most part ok calls. Honestly i think most of those calls should be assumed in because how close and fast they were. Maybe it is experience, but these guys are cutting it close on a lot of their calls.
@jeff3257 Жыл бұрын
saw that one. That one was in by a ball length. Not really even close. There were a few like that I saw. Of course we all make bad calls in a match but really the default should be in unless clearly seen as out. I'm as guilty as the next person in "wishing" balls out.
@larryly3613 Жыл бұрын
@@jeff3257 the only other is the serve that hermont call out at around 4:05 or so I think was in, but I didn't see any others that was caught by the camera if you slowed down the video to 0.25x. Which other ones are you referring to?
@jeff3257 Жыл бұрын
@@larryly3613 yeah you're probably right but in a match we don't have the ability to slow to 0.25x so I guess my point is I like to assume the ball is in if that close and just play it rather than assume it's out. Our eyes can not perceive that small of a difference in real-time.

Patrick's game is awesome but I think his weakness is his normal (non-slice) backhand. It looks like to me he hits his backhand a bit flat and he made quite a few errors on that side. He played great though and he has a good shot at beating Hermont if H doesn't make enough first serves.
