Does professional = emotionless? We’ve all been there after a loss mate, you’re a class act and it will be nice to lift the first matchroom event trophy you’re allowed to play in with a smile. Glad to hear you’re getting there mentally too, seems we’ve been on a similar path recently losing our mothers and battling the sadness that come with it! Not easy at all like I say glad you’re doing better.
@JohnDisque

You have to walk in the shoes of the sponsors. It's not emotions... it's negative actions. No one likes to lose. No one likes to feel they're being unfairly targeted. The ability to control one's "actions" is professional or is what the sponsors of the pool-world are currently defining as "professional." Darren has a past of getting violent and while DeChaine probably had it coming there's really no excuse for violence - it crosses the line and makes him an unpredictable hothead. Due to THAT past I'm sure they were keeping an eye on him. Is it fair to Match Room, or any organization to be walking on eggshells? Is it fair for a sponsor to put their name and business reputation on a sport where the players cannot control thier "actions?" Is it fair to the players when the sponsors pull their money out and everyone makes less? Professionalism is: doing what's best for everyone and the sport itself. It's the understanding that it's not all about you.

Oh bullsh*t! Everyone can be in a bad place when you just lost. Timing is everything and that goes for these drug tests too. Is it too much to ask? 15 minutes? I don't think so. He went to all involved and apologized profusely and they all accepted and understood. Then the fine is a percentage?? And on top of that there's Matchroom to punish him severely in his livelyhood?? It's ridiculous really.
@robdetuinman2
@robdetuinman2 2 жыл бұрын
And then this. Let me first say I'm fine with drug testing, nobody wants another Armstrong after all. Here in the states you need one for most jobs. But take a look at those test centers. Check the gasstation next to these and you'll see a row of people waiting to warm up the pee they brought in the microwave. Unless they are on top of you and watch you take your pee very closely, it's very easy to pass the test. So what is a test like this really worth then?

Great video Daz and I can't help feel like Matchroom's decision is a bit unfiar because it should be common sense that when players have just finished a match that there should be at least a 20 to 30 minutes grace to allow players to mentally relax after a match regardless of the result, instead of coming upto them for a test or whatever when they litterally just finished. Huge respect to you Daz and I can totally relate regards the depression, etc, and it can be a brutal battle to deal with mental health issues and I hope you get through it well. Keep your head high pal and focus on doing what you need to be a better and stronger version for yourself 😎💪👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is heartbreaking to hear and view.... I met you last year 2021, at the BCA World championships.... very receptive, very professional. I have a lot of respect for you and everything you have done for pool not only in the U.K. but in the U.S. as well. You are a foundated player, a pillar in the community of pool not only on the Professional level but through out pool here in the U.S. I feel there will be some sort of a reprieve once all this nonsense is complete. In adding I believe as well that this will make you even stronger and more determined not only to get back where you were as far as you're ability as professional player, but within yourself. As far as the random drug testing goes it can be a nightmare, if anything I would think testing could be done before a tournament or right after. keep that chin up keep sharing who you are and what your about. You have a lot of people who care about you thru thick and thin... Love Your passion for the game, the knowledge you share all is priceless.....

To be realistic about the moral (if not legal) status of a governing body such as Matchroom, the extent of their control over players puts them in a similar position to that of an employer. With that status come certain responsibilities. Yes they are responsible for "employee workplace discipline" but also have a responsibility to recognize that mental health problems are real and not neccessarily simply bad behaviour. Mr. Appleton's personal problems are known to many of us who follow his career and also known to Matchroom officials. To take away this man's ability to continue his career at such a critical time (especilly in view of his remorse) appears to me to be far more punitive than circumstances warrant.

You'd think Matchroom being run by a woman would understand when players get emotional and show more compassion. But the organization reacted back with their own emotion; completely ignoring the drain of losing after you were so heavily invested. The fact that you were shown more compassion by the guys involved shows what kind of organization Matchroom is. Society panders and caters to women but when a man struggles, we're just expected to take it. I'm sorry this bullsh is happening man. Keep a strong mind. Gosh from watching your games you're one of the most humble & gracious players. You aren't a show-off and you don't shark other players, and this makes you a pleasure to watch. I remember in one of your tournaments I watched when you thought your cue touched another ball and you self-reported it but the ref's couldn't tell when checking the camera (even though on slow-mo close-up afterwards it shows you did touch it) so it just shows what an honest player you are and the respect you have for everyone. I get why you are emotional after such a loss (but I've seen a lot worse), and top players seem to have to have so much drive that they get quite passionate, but in this politically correct & sensitive world we live in now the rules have changed for everyone. Hope to see you playing again soon!

I enjoyed 'your' story. It was insightful and I hope constructive. It takes a lot of fortitude to lay your life out like this, for all to see. I've found, when I take a break from pool, I come back better and stronger. I have to reexamine my game, mental attitude and revisit the basics. It's how you turn a lemon into lemonade. Those pool organizations should get together, examine each case and decide on a punishment, as one. Not two judgements. I know you'll be stronger for it. Good luck. 🏆

What do they test for? I'm only guessing a certain drug relaxes you so you can focus more or something.

An all time great player! Too many pencil pushers in sports these days. Get onto Lee Kendall and let’s see you tear up the Ultimate Pool tables if you’re on a 9 Ball break! I’m sure a lot of fans would love to see you on there.👍

I do not feel you done anything wrong. Sounds like you are being railroaded. Maybe you are a threat to the players they want to win and play. Maybe legal advise is something you should seek.

Marchroom should evaluate their own behavior. They don’t run these tournaments with the players in mind. They do it for profit. They aren’t out to better the game of pool / billiards for all. They are only concerned about how much money they make. Don’t take it personally bud! These fools have too much power these days. One day I hope to see a non profit organization run these major events, for the love of the game and the benefit of the players. Without the players they have nothing! As a great man said, “we fly around the world to play in these tournaments basically for peanuts. Only the top 3 make enough from these tournaments to come out ahead. Everyone else takes a loss while these companies like matchroom make major money”..

Sorry to hear that. The way I see it, Matchroom just cares about their ratings. They don’t care about the player. That’s all you hear from Matchroom. This will be good for TV. If this was on the TV table, you might be the guaranteed wildcard for Mosconi.

Gotta picture with you in Qatar. Your legacy isn’t going anywhere brother. This isn’t that kind of sport where you get a speeding ticket (analogy) and you’re smeared in the media for making a “bad decision”. Not here brother. Us players (pros and “street pros”) know the deal. Stay strong 💪🏾

Keep yourself strong! So unfair...match room needs reviewed by WPA for basically overruling their decision. Who hasnt lost their temper ever, seriously. Here's what i gathered from your video, you never looked left, it was always to the right which means you were taking thoughts from your memory...basically telling total truth, when you look left it means your making things up, lying...glad to hear you are on the mend mentally...cant wait to see you show them all! Courageous video! Much love coming your way

Sorry you had to go through this. I have done numerous test in professional snowboarding with USADA both in and out of events. The testing process is messed up and should be a lot better for athletes especially after coming off a tough loss. Considering pool is not an Olympic sport Matchroom should take a better approach with testing. No one from Matchroom should have even engaged you, they should have just let you be, so in my opinion this is on them.

Great statement. Truly apologetic but had plenty of reason to be upset. Focus this and come back even stronger. I think it’s extreme. One even might be justified but not punishing you and Jason on the 2nd event. That’s to much

Complete over-reaction by both WPA and Matchroom. Had you struck someone in anger, then sure, suspensions and fines are appropriate. The financial fine is “appropriate” if these incidents occur during a match (think how USTA handle players during a match: warning, loss of game, loss of set, loss of match progressively during a match for infractions). To be fined a % is ludicrous. To miss a tourney is damaging enough given loss of income and loss of standings points is a double whammy. To levy further damage beyond that for an outburst off the set, is completely unacceptable. This type of conduct by Matchroom will hurt them more than help. Players will consider these liabilities when deciding between CLP and Matchroom events, or playing in US. Sometimes good intentions result in bad policies. Darren, you’re a top class bloke, a helluva player, and they suffer at your absence more than you theirs. Spend some time doing YT videos and lessons to augment the loss. Or come to US and we will arrange some trips and matches 😉

Darren you're an inspiration to the game. You have been my go to player for many years. I follow all your drills and listen to everything you teach. To this day anytime someone asks me about certain drills they need to learn I recommend perfect practice. It's a must have. Keep ya head up. I know times seem bleak right now but you will be back and you will make another huge impact on the pool world. Some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just to bright.

If Matchroom ceded punishment to WPA, then they should be bound to accept the WPA decision. They are not a sanctioning body, they are a management company. Keep your head up Darren, lots of people are behind you.

Played Darren on my first ever Eurotour (Klagenfurt 2018) Best player I have ever played against and a true sportsman for the game. He talked to me after the match and he was really friendly and helpful. He game me one the best advice I have ever had. Treating a player like that is totally wrong especially after he admitted and apologized before he was even advised to do so. I am really glad you are trying and putting again all the effort it takes to play this game as a pro ! i hope to see you a winner really soon again !! I totally respect and appreciate you for all that you have offered to the game so far ! Stay strong mate !!! Hope to see you soon out there !!
