I worked for Amazon for several months, driving one of those huge blue vans, during COVID . . . when there were no open to customers bathrooms anywhere. I used a pee cup like yours, but modified somewhat. I placed a quart Ziplock bag inside the cup, folding the top couple of inches outside the cup. Inside the Ziplock bag, at the bottom, I placed half of only the absorbent part of a baby diaper (cut the rest of the diaper away with scissors). I bought Dollar Tree packs of diapers - very inexpensive. When done peeing, zip up the Ziplock. Toss when at next trash bin. The portion of diaper absorbs the liquid and ALSO COUNTERACTS ODORS.

Have found pee cup also. For pooping, carry a small stack of newspapers. Put 2 or 3 sheets spread on floor, poop on to newspaper, wipe with adult personal wipes. Place wipes on the poop and carefully fold paper with poop & wipes wrapped tightly inside into a small bundle & throw away in trash can when you stop for gas. If you are nervous about bundle coming apart you can place bundle in a plastic bag after you have finished. The wipes are great for a fresh feeling & clean hands. The newspaper has ink that helps with odor till you get to dumpster.

I was driving a few hours to visit family with my infant and became very "ill". I had cramps that came out of nowhere and had absolutely NO time to prepare, so without any shame, I pulled off and used my son's baby diaper. I already was good at taping them shut right away nice and tight and tossing them in proper receptacles. I advise keeping a few on hand because they will absorb it all (poo, pee, or vomit) and there is no concern regarding spillage. There is no shame in any of this, especially if you are sick. They are also great for your emergency kit if you ever should have to cover a bleeding wound.

I had a really bad case of diarrhea after a Fourth of July potluck picnic and after several weeks of Imodium I took one Pearl size dab horse dewormer and that did the trick. Good to keep in your first aid kit and use whenever you're not feeling so good. A little dabble do ya! Haha! Safest drug that big Pharma ever made. The reason it works so well is that it does not kill the parasites but rather paralyzes them and when you're immune system takes them out it is also taking out all the bacteria and viruses that we're feeding on that still living parasite. I trust horse dewormer because horses have very sensitive stomachs and they're not going to add anything bad. Available at your local feed store without a prescription because the horse Lobby is so strong.

Yes and the biggest scam in American history is the “composting toilet! Not ONLY is there ZERO “composting” happening, but you can’t use a composting toilet WITH diarrhea, vomit, menstrual blood and tissues, or ANY antibiotics or strong psychiatric or chemo medications.. and human feces has OVER 300 TRILLION pathogens! Now that more people are camping as a lifestyle and even homeless, THEY CAN NOT poop in our dwindling forests, woods, land, etc. Pathogens sink into our water tables. I knew a woman that was in her 70s that had been mostly living out of her car for years. She had monthly income but had so many bad experiences renting it was pretty much the choice she had made. We were friends and as such I knew that she had bladder control issues and routinely wore an adult diaper. She told me this and it was because she was tired of having accidents. This meant that she would often have to use a bathroom that was suitable for getting "cleaned up". As an adult one should learn that you have to have respect for people that deal with their own burdens. Turns out she had cancer and was more or less "dying" the whole time I knew her. Found out that something urgent had happened and she went to the hospital for something that wouldn't ordinarily be considered that bad. She never left the hospital under her own power. Rest in peace, Kim. The diaper idea may be a good option for some people especially if you are going to be on an Interstate highway for hours because waiting for an exit ramp leading to a nearby bathroom or even just a place to park may be a mistake.

Started w portable potty. Has same condensation issues & kitty litter is added weight to carry(I’m in Subaru Crosstrek). I use female funnel outside. No squatting, can be wearing skirt & no one knows. The freedom of feeling like a boy is amazing!! (Haven’t been in snowy area BUT you know I’m writing my name in snow the 1st time🤣) I practiced practiced practiced in shower to learn pee funnel. In my suv I prefer my Nancy’s 64oz yogurt container. It’s low, it’s wide. It’s lid holds liquid without spillage. Put that doggie pee pad underneath & fold up for reuse when you’ve been "a good, good girl" & haven’t spilled. Just an idea that I use-no tp. None. I bought couple packs of washcloths@Walmart ($6 for 18) in white. I cut each cloth in 1/2. Just throw in with laundry. In my suv, I’ve got my hillbilly bidet squirt bottle to keep clean & healthy. After the Covid TP fiasco of 2020, I decided to save $$$ & the washcloths have actually been great. Also got few packs of black washcloths for, well, you know. You CAN poo in yogurt container, too. I don’t mix poo/pee. Pee is stored in detergent container til I find a public toilet. *IF you’re worried about someone seeing your bare bum peeing in trees-you will NEVER see them again. Stand up straight & proud with your empty bladder & no wet pants&go live your best life! Thanx so much for video.

As a parent I have traveled with a low tech potty training "toilet" and I think it's worth consideration. Some fold up, some are one piece...they are small, but if you are squatting you aren't sitting on them anyway the size is less important. Some of them have a removable bowl that you can put a plastic bag on. Keeping an umbrella (or two) in your vehicle for privacy can be really helpful as well.

For #2 I use a 2 gallon bucket with noodle padding around the rim. I use a disposable bag with the small compressed wood pieces (like the pellets used in a pellet stove) or used in animal cages (purchased at north 40). It absorbs liquid & odor perfectly. I store my roll of disposable bags, TP, & zip-lock bag of pellets inside the bucket with lid when not in use. Works great for me. We use a pop up tent for a changing room/bathroom outside the tear drop if staying a few days.

The Shewee is great after a bit of trial and error at home in the shower. You just have to be sure to press it up firmly onto your perineum rather than at the front. If you press evenly all round or harder at the front edge, wee can leak out at the back. The front takes care of itself if you press moderately hard at the back. The benefit once you have the nack is you have the option to wee standing up with just your flies down like a man. I put tissue in my pants first then pat dry and dispose. That way you can picnic toilet like a man does and don’t feel vulnerable pulling your pants right down and squatting. You don’t get wee on your shoes and you can also wee into a screw top bottle if you need to go inside the van. Love all these tips, Brooke. Stuff your best friend will tell you… xxx

I put a cup or two of livestock bedding pellets in the bottom that are exactly like Feline Pine pellets, only cheaper. I will immediately find a garbage can after going #2 but will wait 24 hours if it's only #1. The pellets smell great. I disagree about the availability of suitable garbage cans. You can use rest areas, gas stations at the fuel island, camp grounds, and any truck stop or travel plaza. There are many more to choose from. I also do this in my rv. While doing a road trip during Covid many restrooms were closed so I made a "potty station" by moving the passenger seat up as far as possible so I could squat on the floor board in the back seat. I used an old ice cream bucket that the pee could be dumped out of easily. That worked better for my balance in a squating position inside the car. I have used a pee cup as well at other times. For BMs (poop) I put a small plastic trash bag in an old ice cream bucket and did my business. I then placed that bag in a very heavy duty zip lock bag. To disguise it, I placed the Ziploc bag in a shopping bag and threw away in an outside trash can when possible. The Ziploc bag helped with odor control as well as spills. The next time I do this, I'll have a second bucket with a lid that I can store the BM filled bags until I can dispose... My dog was a little too interested in the poop bag. LOL

i started using pee wipes in 2020 when way too many folks were a tad obsessed with buying toilet paper. i took a leftover flannel sheet from my youngest daughter’s bedding that she didn’t need/want when she moved out as an adult. then i just snipped and tore it into strips, then snipped and tore the strips crosswise into squares/rectangles. kept in a basket by the toilet, with a pretty pottery crock on the floor for used wipes to go into until they go into the washing machine. easy peasy. then when i moved into a dry cabin for 2 1/2 years, i kept a pee pot at the base of my ladder stairs to my sleeping loft and my basket of pee wipes right next to it. i recently moved into a skoolie, where i have the room for a toilet solution but have not felt the need to buy one. just visited my 93yo aunt who when she found out my living situation said “have i got something for you!” and gifted me an antique enameled pee pot, with handle and lid, and said they used to call them thunder jugs! lol i learned to not put the lid on overnight because of that condensation issue but i love my thunder pot and pee wipes! haven’t had any poop emergencies but in the back of my head was like, well, worst case scenario i have the cat’s litter box! i plan to buy a box of compostable plastic bags for small waste baskets and keep those on hand, along with extra kitty litter, for any potential intestinal emergencies that eventually may arise.

You are so informative and the most honest, real person and video I have ever watched!! I subbed immediately after this video… I love your complete honesty, which I have not seen with other KZbinrs

Another #2 option is a dog pee pad. They're usually 2ft square and provide a large target. They have absorbent material with waterproof backing. Fold up afterwards and stow away in a bag for disposal.

Also, get a large foldgers coffee container and you can easily line it and dump it out and rinse it out, either or. Works so good no matter where you are. Stuff it in a bag and go into a public restroom and dump it in a toilet or out in nature.

Excellent video straight talk. You are right about the pee cup, they work well. I camped in a minivan for awhile, the porta potty worked fine for night time peeing, but I managed to do #2 in public restrooms. People need to stop leaving messes and toilet paper in parks and open camping areas or they will all be closed sooner or later.

Love this transparency and the emphasis on leave no trace. There’s nothing worse than seeing used TP and feminine hygiene products in our open lands. We have a RV with a black tank but to be able to dry camp longer, we use the empty nut jars from Costco. The screw on lids are great to prevent leakage and they hold a lot of pee.

In my camper van I use a rectangular plastic container. Place a used produce bag in it , put it in the toilet and close the toilet lid. Out of sight out of mind! Just tie it up and toss then replace the plastic bag. I do this even in RV parks because I don't like having to use the dump station. The black tank stays clean most of the time and I never have an odor problem in the tiny bathroom.

Just got to the part where you said you can still squat. I can still squat at 65 and I attribute that 100% from decades of hiking and being in the woods and squatting to pee. For a long time I had my mattress on the floor (more for my cat’s mobility than mine), but realized I had to get up off the floor at least once a day and I was stronger and more flexible for it. Don’t take the easier route until you have to! We are drawn to so many conveniences that just make us weak before our time.

Eventually, I'd like to car camping in off-grid area, national parks, etc. (for vacation). I appreciate the idea with the ripped trash bag for ultimate #2 (LOL). It's awesome. I think I'm going to add/modify my bicycle rack in the back of my Rav4 with a small tightly sealed container for bathroom waste (temporarily storage) in case digging a cat hole is not an option. Btw, it has been suggested to me from many friends that I should start my own youtube channel as part of my journey which includes car-camping, future backpacking & boondocking, and post many of my writings including ones I wrote while I was in the hospital room with her. Straightforward practical video w smart informative options. I’ve used a pee rag for yrs while hiking and love it…works great and less TP to pack out. Almost purchased one of the pee “pitchers” for extended cat camping but didn’t want to deal w the no lid option forcing me to dump rinse and clean immediately during the night or in bad/cold weather. My favorite solutions are a urinal w female funnel at top that also has a lid or a simple coffee can (or similar) w lid. Just pop on the top and take care of disposal and cleaning first thing in the morning. Like yourself I mostly just pee outside during the day. Oh…and thanks for the tutorials! LOL!

My daughter is disabled and is unable to use any public toilets. She is also in a wheelchair. Finding a solution so that we could continue to camp and travel was essential. Even on those trips where we stay in motels I take the potty chair. We can pull over just about anywhere when we have to go. I am sharing the bedside commode because it may be an option for some. Also one thing that's really awesome for car camping that I've discovered that you can just go into Target or something and get some regular poster board... And then you trace out the shape of your windows and cut them out the size you can use tape if you have to combine some pieces together to make it large enough and you can make perfectly-sized custom window covers for your car and it really helps keep alive the heat out blocking out the Sun and gives a lot of privacy for when you have to pee in the car or when you're people can't look in and if you're worried that all you can't look out well you can make it to where it can slide a little bit and you can have pickles and some cars come with a reverse camera and I just use my car is reverse camera to check my surroundings and I parked appropriately so the camera is facing most of my campsite

For gig work I used an inflatable bedpan I bought on Amazon. It was a 2 pack for $6. I line it with a bag & a gel pad. Looks like those old school commercial paper towels. I think they’re called commode liners? Those are about $20 for 80. During Covid no one let you use the bathroom. I threw the sun shade in the windshield and have heavy tint everywhere else. Kept a roll of tp in the glove box, and had a giant bottle of hand sanitizer in the cup holder. Slid the bed pan under, pulled my pants to my knees, and sat down. Stood up and wiped, holding the steering wheel while I slid it back out from under me. Pull up pants, tie up bag, sanitize, sun shade, and back to work. Hope this helps. All the emergency fixes for almost every emergency is on utube. For extreme heat, extreme cold, just check out the peppers and homesteaders, it's amazing the things you can learn. Thanks for being real and brave to help others 😆😆😆.

Years of tent camping I figured out a small pail from the cat litter fits under the cot when not in use. My friend uses the small green compost bin that most people keep in the kitchen. A paper liner lined with a plastic compostable liner is the perfect mini toilet. It’s big enough for a one use, so you have to change the double liners every time. But for those 2am bladder runs, or emergency poops…. Now this is the best tip…. Ziploc freezer bags. Tie off your waste bags and pop them into ziploc freezer bags. You can get 2-3 waste bags into i freezer bag. Makes it easier to haul it out…

Hi Brooke. I'm a single lady in my 08 Jeep Liberty. Like yourself, I found carrying those items with me on the road to be too cumbersome and, quite frankly, they smell. Yikes! For urine, I went to Dollar Tree and got a 2 Qt/8 cups Container WITH LID and even has a wider mouth than the store cups. I see them in many Dollar Tree stores. I'm not able to post a pic. Now I don't worry about spilling during the night. Details are that when I need to pee, I pull off a handful of toilet paper. I then remove the lid and wipe the Rim of the container so that it is not wet when I hover over it. I get under the covers and squat over the container. No exiting the car. Wipe myself and put toilet paper in grocery bag for trash, screw on lid tight. In the am, I depart the car and eliminate the urine. One step further, I use antibacterial wipes and clean the container and lid each morning, but that's just my level of being clean. Thank you...I'm still learning too🎉
@LynnRPerry Жыл бұрын
I wrote a comment answering someone’s comment but my answer got longer and longer and so I thought to also add it to the general discussion. It was a comment about containers. As follows: You can get a smaller bucket at Lowes. Find them in the paint isle. They also have food grade 5 gallon buckets, I use for dog food, which are great if you live in a house or a vehicle. You can find, located near the buckets, a great lid to fit these buckets, sold separately. It has two parts, the first piece you fit over the top of your bucket opening. It fits very snuggly. If you don’t carry a hammer or the like go find a mallet in Lowes and use it to get a secure fit. If you are uncomfortable doing this yourself ask for help. These guys will help you out. If you use a hammer, put a cloth over the area you are hitting to keep any damage from happening. The second part, the lid, screws into the first part. It is a great and if you use this bucket as a bucket Loo you have a lid. I use several of these different sizes, sturdy paint buckets as containers for my everyday day items I need to repeatedly use through the day. The handle works great as I can hang them , keeping them from tipping, yet move then about my space. You can also locate them easily when they are on a higher level. It is amazing what you can not find in a vehicle when something doesn’t get put back in its space. They have differently sizes of bucket so you can find what will work for you best pooping. I use a small trash can plastic bag to put in this bucket, and tye up the ends then store it in a Walmart grocery sack till I can get to a garbage. I am with our host on the peeing though, just don’t make it so complicated. There are some gas station that are really great about cleaning. As you cross the country you will get to know them. Pilots and Loves, on the highway, have been making an increasing effort to do very well in their regular cleanliness. Urban stations I like the QT as those places are almost always clean very nicely. But look for the travel centers need the highways and you will find chain travel centers for truckers. These guys and gals don’t want dirty bathrooms either. And please when you find a bathroom needing attention say something. Woman and children deserve to have clean facilities. Make a point of telling the manager good and bad. If we are not willing to stand up and say something then we will never find a clean facility.
