BMW's M Division is the central feature at this year's Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. But while BMW M has been tasked with creating all of BMW's fastest cars and racing cars for the last few decades, the best machines in BMW's motorsport history come from throughout the company's entire history. This includes cars from pre-war right up until the last time BMW tried F1.

The gtr is a cool car but it only raced 1 season in America, it also didn't dominate. I'm sure it would be on the list if it ran for a few years and was raced in different series'. I just looked and apparently there's currently only one with the original v8 in it and running. The others have engine swaps to preserve the rarity that is the v8. Sad

The Williams V10 that Juan Pablo Montoya drove was my favourite BMW F1 car. Held the record at Monza for a long long time.

Well, aerodynamics is THE MOST IMPORTANT HERITAGE in every BMW engine. And logo? It's a silver propeller on the blue sky of this aircraft engines manufacturers, since 1916. Then came motorcycles ... and three cylinders magic of the sinus function. Great video. Thank you for sharing. :)

The E30 is my favorite car, I’ve owned 5. Would like to get an M3 with a 6 cylinder in it. Have a 1991 325i now and I will never get rid of it. I also have an 2001 E46 and I just got a remanufactured engine from BMW put in it.

Missing the best ever Bimmer..... Georg Plaza's Judd powered M3

That car has the best sound of all time, only rivaled by N/A F1 cars and the Ferrari 312PB, but the Plaza car has more brutal gear shifts. However it is just a shell of a BMW and the rest is bespoke racecar and a British racing engine, so not much BMW in it. The Mclaren F1 would be more BMW than the Plaza car, sadly.

The 328 is the BMW goat. Just is, period. Not an M-car, but the goat of ALL BMWs. 464 isch were made, which is a lot less than Ferrari F40s for example. And yet STILL it won nearly everything in it's class for three years and even became the "hotrod platform" after the war for racing in 1948-1956.
