I lived in Panama in the late 60s-early 70s, and I loved it. For me it is the favorite place that I have lived and I would like to eventually retire there.

Stationed there between September 1981, and June 1984. I absolutely LOVED Panama. I really didn't want to leave, but I never thought as I approach my 62nd Birthday, I'd be planning on spending the rest of my life there.

I knew a guy from Oklahoma who lost his job, and therefore also his health insurance. Unfortunately, he is diabetic. Fortunately, he found Panama and has been living there ever since. He went down on a tourist visa, and kept on renewing it every six months but after 2 years of doing that he decided to become a permanent resident. First thing he noticed was how, even before he was a resident, before he had access to universal healthcare in Panama he would have to pay full price for his doctors visits and meds, but the full price in Panama was the same as with the co-pays when he had insurance in the U.S.!! (yes, Panama has Universal Healthcare, unlike the richest nation on earth). And now he's fully covered and has a work Visa and is an English teacher teaching in a private High-School in Panama and is happier than a clam and he looks so much healthier too and more worry free. Today he's 42 years old. He owes his life to Panama, and now also his happiness. He's now married and has 2 children and has visited more parts of Panama than most panamanians. lol.

I did retire early in Panama at 60 (64 now) best thing I ever did. I live with my partner of 31 years in an incredible ocean front condo in Gorgona (right next to better known town of Coronado) We purchased an incredible condo at Bahia. Totally high end for half the price of Miami. We have a restaurant, beach bar, tennis court, beach Volley Ball and beautiful grounds and pools. Two things that Bahia has that sets it apart from most condos is the fact we have instant on generators that keep everything going during frequent power outages and also a well to keep water flowing even when there are shortages. It's a great community literally on the beach and tend to attract a younger buyer (more in their 50's and less in their 80's)

@@alain0323 No, Bahia is much closer to Coronado, just a 10 minute drive to all the stores and restaurants. Ocean Waves is farther down towards Chame. We looked there too but the floor plans were bad and no dishwashers. If you come compare all the ocean front condos you will probably prefer Bahia for all of the amenities smart design and beauty. It's a buyer;s market right now so all are much more affordable. We bought at the height of the market but are very happy at Bahia.

I have been to mainland Bocas province. I fell in love with it and looked into buying some land No electricity but I like rustic living. Sadly I was not able to find an honest lands sales attorney. None would promise deed to the land and wanted cash deal. I gave up and returned to states very disappointed. I was wondering if $1,032.00 monthly would be enough in less developed higher elevations. Not looking for city life.

I knew a guy who retired at the age of 38 years old as a Staff Sergeant and he lives in the countryside with several acres of land and several heads of cattle. He says the taxes are cheap as dirt and it's also panamanian law not to tax any incomes coming from outside of Panama. Therefore he does not get double-taxed for his Army retirement either. He's happy as a clam.

I am a single, retired American female living on a pension and Social Security. I am currently researching places to move and settle in retirement as the US is way too expensive on a limited budget. I was looking seriously at Panama until I came across information about pain medication (opioids like vicodin, percocet, oxycodone, etc.). I have chronic pain and I will need future joint replacements. I read that Panama basically will not prescribe opioids - and I read one account of a person with stage 4 cancer not being able to get pain medication. Can you - or anyone comment on that? That is a deal-breaker for me. It is tough enough to get pain meds in the states anymore - but at least they'll give them to you after a joint replacement (for now).

As Ronin said in the video most people there do not use air conditioning, but there are always fans, and the houses are designed so as to allow the free flow of air throughout the house. During the three months of dry season the humidity is very low and there is usually a nice ocean breeze. During the rainy season it rains torrentially, often twice a day, and that helps to cool things down. It actually gets much hotter in Washington DC in the summer than it ever gets in Panama. Good luck to you on what ever you decide.

One of the many problems no one addresses is the Panamanian currency. Although Panama has its own currency (the Balboa), however, Panama also uses the U.S. dollar. The Balboa to U.S. dollar exchange rate is 1-to-1, which doesn't make since when it comes to GDP. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Panama was worth 52.94 billion US dollars in 2020. Compare that to the U.S. GDP in 2020 at $20.93 trillion. So how did the 1-to-1 exchange rate balance off? Someone with subject matter expertise in economy explain this...I am not convinced that Panama is the best or most beneficial place to retire. Healthcare and medical services outside of Panama City is horrible. DO NOT expect hospitals outside of Panama City to have the same quality. Start asking what expats do not like about Panama...

I have lived in Panama for 10 years in the Los Santos Province. This video is just a cursory description of what it is like to live in Panama. I will say this. Most US citizens that move to Panama stay anywhere from a year, to a few years. Then they move back to the US. They thought they would like it. But, for a myriad of reasons they decided they were tired of this life style. Especially if you are married. If one or the other person decides they want to move back to the US, well, its pretty much a done deal. It is very expensive to sell all of your belongings, then to move to a foreign country, then start a new life, then decide to move back to the US. And, that is the most likely end result of your adventure. You must be very confidant about your decision before moving to a foreign country or even before making that decision.

RoninBlue Unless you have plenty of money and it is not a factor, it is imperitive that you do not buy real estate. It can take years to sell real estate in foreign country's. Don't commit yourself quickly to anything. You will hurt yourself in the long run if you do. Moving to a foreign country is no panacea for most folks. Be sure about what you are doing before committing yourself. And, please, if you don't have much experience with Panama---quit selling the idea to others. You know nothing.

Panama is a beautiful place to live. People are friendly, happy, and honest. I like the video overall, but saying most people will rob you if you don't speak Spanish is incorrect. Many foreigners have been settling in some most of the most beautiful areas excluding locals and making things more expensive for Panamanians. Some are benefiting from healthcare programs that are meant for locals. Indeed, Americans in general would have higher income and it is ok to pay more for some services to spread the wealth. Americans that are friendly and respectful will be well accepted.

It depends on your disability. Bocas has a good clinic but depending on your disability you might consider something closer to the capital. Otherwise Bocas is perfectly fine. I knew a family that settled in Bocas after they lost everything when Hurricane Katrina struck them. They were left with practically nothing but Panama welcomed them. They called themselves American refugees living in Panama. There they found Universal Healthcare and even a very good private healthcare options that were a fraction of the cost of as in the U.S.

You're gonna have a lot of fun but stay safe and do your do diligence before you go on place of destination ! And in South America as well , if you're going to Panama it's really safe there people are very friendly and they use American currency wich is good, things in Panama are cheaper than in the states so your dollar will go further ! RonnieBlue Hey Ronnie how are you ? I hope great, what I forgot to mention is that it's very safe place, they use American currency and 75 % of Panamanians speak English ! I'm not sure we're you're from but they have whole neighborhoods of Americans and other English speaking countries, on the outskirts of the city there are so many places to move to all private residences with security, the most popular beaches are about 45 minutes West of Panama, beaches like Gorgona, Coronado, and Playa Blanca. If you like taking a boat trip to the Islands of Taboga and Contadora and they are literally about one hour away but I think Contadora is a little further away but not much ! They have a place called la zone rosa wich means something like the red light district, it's full of bars clubs restaurants and casinos ! The only thing about Panama it has very humid weather, so if you go out during the day you're probably not gonna wanna wear the same clothes because they'll be all sweaty lol. I wish you good luck on your trip to Panama.....peace my brother

@ Serry Jane Winkler. Panama has a modern communications network and the internet speeds in Panama City are fast and pretty reliable, most expat areas also have stable connections. If you're thinking about the countryside areas, they are slowly still upgrading. The prices per month vary, dependent on packages etc but some say it's rather high or equal to that of the US.

No I would not go there to live as I am in the Philuppines now 10 monhts after researcgubg for 5 years while I was in Australia all my life but retirement there is only for those who have a lot of money, I did not... I now own a large town house for $100K AUD about $80 USD and the cocst of living here is better and English is more wide spread.. I did not move here to be with expats and I am part of the communuty but I only speak English not Bisaya though I did learn some Tagalog but it is not spoken on Cebu... it is torpical here yes and it rains 8 days a month on average and temp range is 24 -32 most of the year but cooler Dec - March.. life style is simple and white sand beach is all over the place and island hopping is fun too as is crusing the Malls here as there are so many... I looked into Ecudor but declined same with Panama...you have to balance a lot of things in retirement and health care and at home care giver is low cost here $250 a momth or less same with nanny or housekeep or maid... SRRVisa is $10K USD deposot for perment residence if all requirments are met... better here than Thailand but Malaysua is high on my list too.

@@roninblue5885 Panama did not adopt western holidays. We have our own holidays and Christmas and New Year's. What is western about That? Also, Panamanian don't just invite anyone to parties. Some of the pictures that you show are not in Panama. These are just a few.
