There was a death of a person that had a heart attack and biotin had affected the troponin test results and the person was not treated for heart attack. Right after I wrote this, Dr Dray mentioned the same case I was referring to in this video. I read about this in Harvard Health. Apparently, high doses of biotin also interfere with thyroid test results too.

Wow! This was an eye opener for me. As someone with PCOS hair issues and very thin nails, I've looked for multivitamins with biotin, but am the only member of my family without hypothyroidism. I wonder if the biotin has been throwing those levels off all these years? Most multivitamins have biotin, so finding one without it will be difficult.

Dr.Dray could you please recomend few good leave in hair conditioner choices. Ive been using Loreal mask you recomended it is really good but i think after rinsing it out i still feel the need something extra in damp hair becauses of regular hair dyes for 20 some years and now i'm trying to cut it down.Thanks

Dr Dray has mentioned the moroccon hydrating styling cream. She's liked hair oils like the Oribe and Derma E but she's only applying those to the end part of her hair and not the scalp. You might want to check hair care videos from Dr. Sam Ellis and Dr. Jenny Liu who do color treat their hair.

Same here. I had cystic acne when I was a teenager. As soon as I take anything with biotin my cystic acne comes back. Not sure if that's the cause ... But usually that's the only change I have.

I noticed a change in my skin lately but not what you described so I may not be biotin deficient. Do you have any idea if eczema tends to flare up in the winter ?

Indeed it is so hyped up without even a significant background to support its existence and claims to what it does to help (exception are those who are deficient in biotin). I personally refused biotin supplements for brittle nail and instead used a lacquer which didn't have biotin in it 😊❤ and it worked just fine. Thanks Doctor Andrea for this informative video .
@claudialupper3 күн бұрын
Thanks, I have a bottle of biotin that I became careless about taking. I have never heard of hyperaesthesia, but I definitely have that, wow, learned something here today!! Also have brittle nails but assumed it was from constant cleaning. Going downstairs to take some Biotin right now. Eating raw egg whites is SO BRAT. All the cool girls do it, now I have to give it up and sit at the losers table at lunch.😾 Does Biotin in shampoo and conditioner do anything?

Dr D, is there any reason I can't use Amlactin lotion on my face? I use Lactic Acid 10% from the Ordinary every morning and it occured to me I could elimate that product and replace it with my AmLactin lotion I use on my body and use it on my face instead. Thoughts? Thank you.

I have tried AmLactin on my face but it burns a little. What I LOVE LOVE on my face is the Cetaphil SA Lotion Dr. Dray has recommended before. It has salicylic acid and makes my skin glassy.

Biotin breaks me out so I always avoid it in my multivitamins, but I also have all of these symptoms so now I’m rethinking it. I know the best thing would be to see a doctor but that’s not possible at the moment.

I've heard making sure you are drinking enough water helps with the breakouts. I'm going to try it. It breaks me out too.

I have supplemented with biotin and found it to be very helpful in hair regrowth. In fact, my mother, who had undiagnosed colon cancer and was already quite ill and losing her hair, supplemented with it and experienced real hair regrowth. Bear in mind our food sources do not contain the nutritional values they used to, so getting the vitamins and minerals in the amounts we used to just doesnt happen these days, so supplementation is becoming more and more necessary.
@stealthis3 күн бұрын
The only problem this is the supplement industry is largely unregulated and even if you are getting what what was advertised, it may not cause an effect or be in a format that is optimal. A good example of this is magnesium oxide. Only 5% this form of magnesium is absorbed, so even a 100% daily value of this would essentially be moot. It gets more complicated when you venture away from common vitamins and minerals and into plant extracts, which are commonly made up of complex substances that a or may not have extensive research nor will a sourcing of them potentially pull heavy metals into the mix.
@stealthis3 күн бұрын
A good example of this is ashwagandha. There are studies that say it nothing, meanwhile you have several trademarked forms like KSM-66, sensorial, shohun. Do not buy the no name or cheap stuff. You have no idea what part of the plant you are getting and it could pull out heavy minerals from the ground that you would end up ingesting.

So if this is such an issue, why aren't doctors asking patients if they are taking biotin or if it is in their multivitamin before ordering labs and putting it in their medical history if they are?
