You could add a kindle shelf to the shelves of your one week one shelf challenge. That way there's a shot at being able to finish A Day of Fallen Night (or any ebook you have) when you do the challenge. And I would call the unread section of an ereader a TBR shelf so it fits :)
@BookswithEmilyFox Жыл бұрын
I had thought about adding the ebooks to my "read it or unhaul it" but since they're not taking space on my shelf, I didn't. I should do a part 2 of reading the forgotten ebooks tho (A Day of Fallen Night will definitely be read early March!!)
@ammalyrical5646 Жыл бұрын
@@BookswithEmilyFox sure. My ebooks also take up no space on my physical shelves. But sometimes the sheer number feels overwhelming despite my ereader being small. It interesting how different people can be. I assume this isn't something that happens to you here btw. It's like when you have a lot of physical clutter in your home and are decluttering. The electronic and emotional stuff doesn't take up physical space but it still has impact on you wellbeing. And honestly I'm just curious what's on your ereader. I know I have a lot more unread books digitally that physically. At the beginning of the year it was 424 and maybe 80 of those were physical. There's almost a factor four difference there.
@BookswithEmilyFox Жыл бұрын
I think I don't feel too overwhelmed with them because I don't own many! They tend to be more expensive than the used physical ones I get so I mostly get them from the library (or ARCs!)
@ammalyrical5646 Жыл бұрын
@BookswithEmilyFox I wish I could get many of my books from the library, but a lot of the books I want to read aren't there. It also costs money here, so I don't think it's worth it for me yet. Many of my ebooks were cheaper than physical ones or the only version currently available to me, plus I got a decent chunk of them for free. Oh, how different things can be between people and countries. I do have a shared and paid for sub to an audiobooks library, though. And I love that it's truly limitless as long as they have a license to the books. I hit over 20 books in a month once and without waiting list unlike what my library would have.

It a great balance.

I just finished Kindred last night, that was my favorite book for January for sure. I agree about KPS. It's fun as a short book, but my favorite one-off from Scalzi is Redshirts. That one is pretty funny. I really like Old Man's War. It's actually not a trilogy. He kind of Anne Riced it and kept adding to it. I highly recommend getting a hold of The Sagan Diary. It's a novella he wrote for charity purposes that fits between 2 and 3. What My Bones Know sounds really good. Though a different scenario, it sounds like something I could relate to. Being in a field which has a lot of PTSD, I have been interested in the myriad ways it manifests. Unfortunately, working through it one is faced with a lot of Toxic Positivity.😉 I personally dismissed my own issues after working with physically (sometimes extensively) wounded individuals because I felt like I shouldn't complain.

Great video! I'd love a more in-depth review of North and South when you're finished :) This month my favorite book (that I'm still currently reading but over 50%) is Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. All the letters just felt so human and some of the advice so raw, plus it gave me a ton to think about. It's the first time I've ever felt the need to put post it notes into a book to mark good quotes, good thing I own the book! I also read A Walk Between Stars by Tyler R. Parsons which was fine (3 stars). And I read and DNF'ed The Wall by Marlen Haushofer just at 50%. It wasn't a bad book, but not at all what I expected from hearing people on the internet talk about the book. It was very slow and not sci fi at all, I'd say it was more literary with a hint of dystopian. That not meeting of expectations plus the very slow pace made me so bored that I could not go on. I'm also currently reading Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata (I'm only 23% in) but so far I enjoy it. Also, has anyone read Old Man's War yet? But anyway will be adding Entitled onto the list. Spent most of the month pretty slumpy and only wanted to read NonFics, gave out a couple of 5 stars but they were like bottom 5s. Im unlikely to consider any of them as top books at the end of the year which is not that start anyone wants. But lots of good books im currently reading now. The focus is on misogyny so it's mostly about hoe it hurts women. "The will to change" by bell hooks would be a good one if you're looking more for how it hurts men/people in general

Looks like I found a fellow bibliophile who can't resist the temptation of starting a new book before finishing the old one! 🤣📚 Let's start a book club where we can all share our never-ending reading lists. 📖 #BookWormsUnite 🐛

Tress was a letdown. I finished it but tbh it never really "picked up" for me :/ just my opinion...don't understand all the rave reviews

I can see that. The narrator is my second favorite character in Cosmere so that made the book so much more enjoyable. Also the humor is quite juvenile but somehow it worked for me.

@@yyuna7 thats really interesting to know i read Tress... And was really underwhelmed but so far ive only read mistborn series 1 and the emperors soul. I was wondering if it was because I'd not read enough of his books, for me it was the humour and the YA feel, but thought the magic system was very clever.

The Maid was one of my disappointments of last year, it wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't call it good. It had been hyped up way too much, so I thought it would be charming cozy with a quirky MC. None of that was true, the writing was a quick and easy read at least. First of all, I wouldn't call it a mystery (cozy or otherwise), it was more of a social commentary and not a good one at that. Yes, it was condescending, she had the character's awareness switch on and off too often which was in no way realistic to real life or real people. Especially that ending, which was just no. And was only used to fit the story, she should have researched better. When it comes to Princess Bride I wouldn't say it's a kids' book for adults, it's just really quirky kinda like a Terry Pratchett-style humor almost.

The Maid. People either seems to love it or hate it. I was in the middle. I read it early last year, and it was marketed as a mystery. But it’s definitely a cozy mystery, so it wasn’t what I expected. I thought it was fine/good. Nothing terrible or amazing. Surprised it won though…

I quit reading Louise Penny. I just wasn’t interested. I did enjoy The Kaiju Preservation Society.

Can you please do a review for my book?

I didn’t really like the Kaiju book for all the same reasons; couldn’t tell the characters apart at all. I also thought the main character was a woman 😂😂😂 like I was so surprised when you just said man but tbh I was so disinterested that it’s no surprise.

The main character was never gendered, so they could be read as anything. I read them as a man.

That's true, I keep forget to mention that the author never mentions their gender... I have been thinking about them as man!
