None of these cars can be reasonably bought for the prices listed in the video or will they necessarily survive long without maintenance. Let's take a look: 1. Lexus ES300-Interference Engine-timing belt must be changed ($700-1200) or the engine grenades. Plus, this thing drives worse than the Camry it's based on. 2. Crown Vic-Leaky intake manifolds, transmissions that don't like to shift (but do like to explode), and it weighs 4500 pounds. 3. Honda Accord-Timing chain issues with the K Series, older cars have a timing belt that must be changed, otherwise it is a decent handling front wheel drive snoozer with a TAKATA airbag. 4. Toyota Hi Lux-the bodies just rust off these. Seriously, as good as the 22R is, the rest of the pickup is made of paper thin steel that was rarely rustproofed. 5. Subaru-Legacy, Outback, Impreza--it doesn't matter--head gaskets will leak requiring a complete teardown ($1000+), plus they like to burn oil and the bodies rust like crazy. 6. Geo Metro--there's a reason that GEO is no longer around and this car has a lot to do with it. Never as reliable as the internet makes them out to be and prone to being totaled if it got hit by a shopping cart. Again, this is not a long lasting car. 7. Volvo 240-Can be cheap and fun, but still multiple things will keep it from going 500,000. Timing belt, transmission in general, rust, by now the electronics are degrading to the point the ecm doesn't work. None of the gauge clusters work. A/C=no. 8. Miata-timing belt issues, rust almost anywhere and everywhere, and who can forget the Miata tax. You'll spend $5000+ to get a decent one, or less than $4000 to get something that has been used as a drift/scca/drag/stance/derby car and every previous owner (minimum 6) will have beat the drivetrain within an inch of it's life attempting to prove that the car is fast (when it's not). So let's look for some cheap cars that can be fun and reliable without most of the other problems: 1. Acura Integra 2. Volvo 740/940 3. C4 Corvette 4. Honda Civic 5. Saturn Ion Redline/Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged 6. Ford Mustang (SN95) 7. Toyota Matrix 8. Honda CRX

@yoyozent2 жыл бұрын
what year of acura integra would you recommend?
@brettkirkpatrick4642 жыл бұрын
@@yoyozent Only I can only recommend two out of the three generations of vintage Integra and sadly only the third generation will be available. The first generation Integras (1986-1989 USDM) were the lightest and quicker than the second generation cars. The D16A1 1.6 DOHC four cylinder loves to rev and is fun to drive with its 7000 rpm redline and a 5 speed. But, it is difficult to find an 86-89 these days. So the other viable option would be a 1994-2001. I'm skipping the 1990-1993 because they were the heaviest of all the Integras and thus the slowest (Yes, I know the new Integra is heavier-but I haven't had one yet and thus it doesn't count). So now you are buying a 1994-2001, here's what to look for: rust on the rear wheel arches in a number of places-at the top, on the leading edge or generally anywhere in that wheel opening. Paint fade (yes, Honda didn't use high quality paint). Saggy suspension (every rubber bushing is now dead-and even those polyurethane "performance bushings"). Really the B18B1 four cylinder is a decent daily driver, and much better than the VTEC cars in my opinion (the GS-R's are fairly tiring to drive as you spend most of your time revving the engine into VTEC just to get torque). Its cute to play race driver when you first get the car, but about a week later people are asking why the car isn't that fast but you seem to be revving the bearings off of it-not fun anymore. Oh! The ride is very choppy/loud. You will get handing (with fresh STOCK suspension) but it is painful on the daily. It's not a great fit for people 6 feet tall because the curve in the roof over the drivers door cuts the ceiling height. Anyway...Let me know if you have any specific questions...I owned a 1999 for 15 years and many miles so I have some experience with them.
@jaqcowell9192 жыл бұрын
Do all the old Honda Accords have that problem?
@brettkirkpatrick4642 жыл бұрын
@@jaqcowell919 Depends on the year of the Accord. Older Accords have a timing belt/idler/tensioner that must be changed about every 90,000 miles. If the timing belt doesn't get changed, it can break and destroy the engine. Prices run somewhere between $1500-2000 US to change the belt and timing components. Newer Accords use a timing chain, which seems to only last between 150,000-200,000 miles and can also destroy the engine if it fails. Think $2000+ US to change the timing chain and all of the components. Either way, replacing the belt or chain at this point might cost more than the car is worth.

Oh and the head liner was falling apart (he tried to put those rolls Royce lights in it) and the stereo system was taken out (probably upgraded it and didn’t want to part with the new speakers) but I bought it for 1,800$ fixed everything and upgraded a few things (breaks, spark plugs, oil change, diy paint job, new speakers and new head unit all for 1200$ (the speakers and head unit were the bulk of that 1200$ price.) it’s an amazing vehicle and I’ve still got some things to add such as new head lights, rims (nothing fancy) and tires. But it blows super cold A/C and handles perfectly after fixing the front springs and motor mounts.

I like the Lexus ES300! I drove one as a loaner car years ago, and loved it! One of my homies, who hasn't owned a car in years, just bought one! The only down side is the premium fuel. I like the Miata as well, although at 6' 1", 280 lbs, I can't even fit in it, much less shift gears! I have a 2001 Toyota Tundra SR5, which is like driving a tank! Why has the 2nd generation Toyota Prius been omitted from this list!?

I bought a 1997 Toyota Avalon off Craigslist 4 years ago with 129K I have only driven it to just now 174K but less an AC and struts this pretty beater runs smooth and even the door entry lights still shine bright. I paid 2K for it and have been offered 3K just last year. I want to drive something newer but HEY! it cost me out of pocket under 100 a month INCLUDING FUEL and INSURANCE! Kinda hard to pass that up and I can take it anywhere and NO FUSS NO MUSS! Thanks Great Content God Bless

@@IdealMediaChannelwith a daily commute of 125 -130 miles through Bay area traffic, it's definitely going to be between the Lexus ES 300 or the Honda Accord. Maybe more towards the Accord. The mpg numbers look more favorable. But the plush, comfy interior of the Lexus is also calling me. We will see!

I have a few high mileage (over 200k) vehicles. The winner is a '96 Chevy Suburban 2500 with a 454, 310K miles. Next is a '84 diesel Rabbit, 240K miles. Third is an '82 Oldsmobile diesel wagon, big rear drive body on frame boat at 230K miles and finally an '08 Chrysler 300 AWD Hemi, 230K miles. All with their original drive lines. I did own a cop car once (94 LT1 Caprice) but it had been rebuilt after it left the Michigan State Police in 1997 and served as a local car for a couple of years before I bought it in 1999. That $700 car gave me 70,000 more trouble free miles before I sold it. I paid $200 for the Olds Wagon 19 years ago and including new tires I have about $1500 in it today. Been the most bang for the buck I've ever bought. The highest mileage vehicle I ever owned was a '05 F150 with a 5.4 Triton.......334K when I sold it (paid $1200 for it). Today it is in the 370's for mileage and still going. The entire drive line is original too.

I think you should have included the 1st generation of scion XB 2003 - 2007. I have a 2004 XB with 300,302 miles original engine and trans, the engine on these XB’s are one of the best built by toyota. August of 20202 4 I replaced the up stream and down stream 02 sensor, max air flow sensor, cam shaft, sensor, PCV valve, 4 ignition coil, Idle Air Control Valve “IAC valve” and just couple of days ago i replace the alternator that it went bad. All parts replaced were the original OEM from factory and replaced them with OEM as well. I’m part of XB club and many Scion XB owners have well over 200,000 miles on their cars with no major work done to their cars other than regular maintenance work. These box cars are such a comfortable ride.
