Dude, you are my hero for showing that whisker pole sequence. Fair Winds!

Wow, the shots of St Michaels bring back so many memories. That building to the left of where the OSPERY sits, my father and crew (my brother, brother-in-laws and I) along with a few more hands, built it back in mid to late 70s, not sure of the year. Great to see.

You are wise to do your cruising while you are young. After retiring I sold everything and moved across the country. Two boats I had under contract didn’t work out. The saga is not worth telling. The plan of living and cruising is now down to doing 3-4 day coastal cruises at a time when possible. Enjoy every minute.

Great video, I'll be doing the same this summer, newbie sailor banging around Lake Ontario trying to figure things out. Great boat btw, Dory 28, sweet

I keep my Pearson 27 in the lower bay in Virginia. One weekend left of season prep and I'm back to weekends on the boat like this. This video was a great reminder of what to look forward to.

I have some deck work to do (kiwigrip) and then I’m back! Though I have been out basically every month when the temp was above 45 degrees

When raising the mainsail you can avoid fouling its battens in the lazy jack lines with this simple trick. Slack one side of the jack lines completely so you can pull them up against the mast. Steer slightly off the wind so the main raises on the side with the slack jack lines. Raise the mainsail fully. Then raise the slackened jack lines completely. This solves the problem of threading the main sail through the jack lines while precisely steering exactly into the wind.

You MUST wash the mud off the anchor rode. If not your chain locker drains will clog and the well will eventually fill with water be it rain or wave action. Many anchor wells drain into the boat if they fill with water. That violates the #1 rule: keep water out of the boat. Bay mud is gross and stains everything so it requires a lot of water to wash it off. Milwaukee makes a great M18 cordless water pump that is powerful enough to draw water from the Bay to power spray the rode clean. Yes it’s noisy but it’s faster than the bailing bucket.

I pull jib out first sail close hauled then release mainsheet so the boom lines up with wind and sail raises and lowers fine in lazy jacks

A great little low key video you have put together there. I'll check back in with you on your next video, I quite enjoyed this one. Best regards Jarle (Norway)

The weather helm on one tack is likely caused by the mast not being straight. My guess your uppers and perhaps your lower stays are not same tension. Lots of wonderful anchorages on the Bay.

Thank you! I now know a lot more about CE/CLR than when I made this video. Tension adjustment is indeed on my pre-season checklist this year

Digging the uke playing, nice! For a sec i thought you were taking pulls of a bottle of Scotch. I am assuming it was a soda.

I have one sacred bottle of Smith and Cross on my boat(s) that we drink from on special occasions. Like when I changed boats, or the first time I sailed at night, the first overnight etc.

Tohatsu 9.8. Gets it to 6.5 kts. Used to be a diesel in there that died at some point so now the engine bay is just storage. I’ll probably repower eventually but for now it works just fine
