You'll find that most of the beaches are 'owned' by cafes ,restaurants and hotels. The regions name is pronounced as poo-li-a. Pol-i-nano-el-maray. Some lovely scenes.

@@Berto-bo7mrYes of course proper pronunciation is important, you’re right. I’m studying Italian now and can tell you that many Italian words are difficult to pronounce, especially if you’re learning this beautiful language later in life as I am. I cut Gogibgo some slack on the pronunciation issue, because I saw the benefit of the video Gogibgo produced. BTW we just got back from Puglia and Gogibgo’s video was in fact helpful, which was the point of the video.

Ostuni-Gallipoli-Monopoli-Polignano a Mare-Fasano-Lecce-Brindisi is my favourite triangle in puglia. Beautiful beaches, great food and drinks all provided by people that know how to live very close to heaven, while still connected to their home soil. Please remember that summer-life there begins "at dusk" and summer-work starts long before dawn.

Can I take that route by train or bus and stay at Airbnb along the way? Or other option is to stay in one place and take day trips.
@thedude579
@thedude579 Жыл бұрын
@@lisalanza8365 I have not tried it, but you should be able to reach all the towns except for Gallipoli (which is on the other side of the heel) by train. In Ostuni the train station is out of town with a bus running into town. Taxis are almost non existant. Do not expect everything to work out as planned because it never does in southern Italy, but it works out in some (usually funny) way at the end.
@thedude579
@thedude579 Жыл бұрын
@@lisalanza8365 Airbnbs are abundant in the area, but in July and August (the high and very hot season) they are probably all booked. I would stay in the "middle town" Ostuni and take day trips from there, but all the cities will do nicely for a stay. I suppose you can rent small electric vehicles (twizzys) in Ostuni for around 30 to 40 Euro per day to take you to the beach or explore the backcountry.

Half a day in Momopoli! You really aren't getting the best of a place if you spend so little time. I stayed here for a week a few years ago and have wanted to return ever since. But I'm a curious soul and new destinations keep on popping up that I have to visit. Really wouldn't consider going to anywhere in Itally that's a popular destination during the height of the summer season unless you love crowds of people. Temperature is always much nicer and far less tourists in the shoulder seasons. Prices are normally better too!

I am arriving in Rome on May 9 for a couple of days and then taking the train to Puglia. Any suggestions on the best route to take while staying in an Airbnb along the way. No 🚗. Thank you
@gogibgo6148
@gogibgo6148 Жыл бұрын
Hmm I arrived from a different way, but I think the most direct way is to go from Rome to Bari. I personally stayed in Bari and used it as a jumping off point to go to places in the Northern section of Puglia. I believe you can take trains from there to some of the major sites, like Polignano a Mare and Ostuni, which I highly recommend you visit.

Re Brindisi, agreed. For my italy May 11 heel trip I’m using a Brindisi Airbnb as a base. Although I am flying from Rome due to time constraints, a train from Rome to Bari and on to Brindisi is very doable and affordable.

If you have a week in Puglia where would you stay? Can you suggest 2 spots for me to check out please.
@gogibgo6148
@gogibgo6148 Жыл бұрын
I only did 4 days, but I would suggest basing yourself in Bari in the North and Lecce in the south. Both are the two biggest cities in the region and are great destinations in an of themselves. From Bari, it's easy to get to Ostuni, Polignano a Mare, Monopoli, Locorotondo, Alberobello and other places. Lecce gives you a good home base for all of the beautiful places in the south of Puglia. Also, Lecce is called the "Florence of the South" because of how beautiful it is. You could also stay in Ostuni in the north, which is a decent sized city and very beautiful. Definitely check out Otranto in the south.

I think the best city to be as basecamp is Brindisi because is in the middle of all the most beautiful places. You can reach many of these cities by train, especially the ones on the Adriatic sea side

I'm italian. The right pronounciation in italian is poollia (you don't have that sound in english: the italian -glia is like the spanish -lla). Remember also that in italy, like in england or everywhere, there are many accent. In Puglia the local pronounciation is different from italian standard pronounciation, because that sound (-glia, like the spanish -lla) is inesistent. They are not able to pronounciate that sound. They say poogghye (same sound of the german g)
