There is someone who has been actually homeless on my street. He has a dog, but it is so old that no-one will actually take it in. He loves that dog so much, he doesn't ever ask people for money, he will wait for his regular helpers to come with food. He is so kind and people who know him well, really help him out.

A few years back my cousin and I met a (homeless?)man as we were leaving a train station. He gave us a story about his sons upcoming birthday. He said he'd let him down so many times, and now he wanted to rectify things between them with a surprise visit. Seeing a grown man weep as he lamented his life, we couldn't help but give him money for the train ticket he couldn't afford. In fact we gave him 70 bucks to help him get a gift too. 3 hours later we get back to the train station to find the man passed out in a gutter with a bottle of grey goose in his hand...

This makes me very angry because it hits really close to home, I spent most of the 2000-2010s (with a good year here and there) homeless, and mostly broke, I stayed in homeless shelters, I lived a year in a 96 Plymouth Neon (and being im 6ft 3in that is quite a feat). I never panhandled (with the exception of ONE time for $5 for gas). Things are fine now and I have a good apartment, a solid income and even a new car, but I had to work VERY hard to claw my way out of drug use and poverty (4 years clean)

I know of a homeless man who actually does care about his dog. He knows he can get off the streets but he's struggling with something. He takes really good care of his pup, adopted another one when his first one died, and takes it to the vet regularly. I think he also said that he never has to buy dog food because people always donate.

In my town, there's one fairly young dude who has the same situation as Steven Hopkins, and he's outside everyday. But, he doesn't beg. He actually PAINTS and DRAWS our town for tourists and makes his money, even though he's actually disabled. He lives in the retirement home for old people, they took him in. As much as it breaks my heart watching people on the streets begging, I try all of my best to not give money. I'm guilty I've given money but very rarely. What I do, is give food. That definitely gives me no remorse on giving. And often if they're fake, the beggar will be upset if you don't give money and give food instead, so you immediately know and just be on your way.

There’s a difference between blind and legally blind. Legal blindness means you can see some, and some people accuse you of faking it. When a legally blind person has a cane, it usually is to simply let people know that they have a vision problem. It doesn’t mean they can’t get around without a cane. I once met a guy at a shopping mall, he told me this outlandish story that he is in a band and they need to get to a city far away for a scheduled performance, but don't have money. He even looked the part. I ended up giving him money. About 6 months later I saw him again walking next to the road, and I stopped and asked him if the band ever got to perform. I remember being homeless 2 years ago living in a car during the code blue State of emergency where it was so cold there was warm up shelters full an people dying because they froze to the sidewalks..... And here I am not able to afford gas to keep warm and no one would help... Barley anyone came through. Granted i put myself in that situation because I was struggling with addiction but never the less it was wrong how people turned me away... These people are so screwed up! Now its different im almost 6 months sober and people I know want to help now. Screw the people who are like the ones in this video!!!!

@@raywalker2276 no I didn't go to any rehabs. However I did go to a place that offers therapy with substance abuse education a few times between age 20-24. I hope you don't follow our foot steps neither. It's not worth it. Living a different life in sobriety has taught me so much, has given me so much and has opened my eyes to new people who genuinely care about my well being.now I'm on Drug Court n they have me going to an out patient program. I'm hopefully going to complete it soon. I went from going 6 1/2 hours a day 4 days a week- to 4 days a week for 2 hours. Now I'm 3 days a week for 1 hour and I get dropped down in two weeks. Like I said Sobriety has been good to me (:
