Especially for The driver of the Fire apparatus, as a Driver of such vehicles, for 20 + years I know how touchy, and top heavy they can be when having to make a split second evasive decision. This will likely be weighing on this operator for a very long time. I'm hopeful that all make a speedy recovery 🙏.

If you have to swerve to avoid hitting an inanimate object, don’t. Just hit it. I’ve hit an office chair and a large roll of carpet on separate occasions on the freeway. Only minor damage to my vehicle (midsize SUV). Avoided crashing and made it to my destination safely. Prayers for these firefighters 🙏

A CHP officer said the exact same thing to me when I stopped to help a neighbor on the freeway who had just ran not a semi truck on the freeway. My neighbor swerved to try and avoid hitting a cardboard box on the freeway. She then hit the semi truck that was in the lane to her right. If she would have just hit the box, no vehicle damage and would have just went on her way. Take your foot off the gas pedal and just hit what ever the object is in the road.

@@SlimTechnology exactly. Both times I had vehicles on all sides of me with the car in front changing lanes but I didn’t have enough notice. The chair got demolished and scratched my bumper. I didn’t even pull over. Just kept cruising on through lol. The roll of carpet was scary. I thought for sure I was gonna crash, but it just got stuck under my Chevy Trailblazer and I was able to get over to the emergency lane and reverse off of it. Surprisingly, no damage and I continued on my way to work. If I would’ve swerved I would’ve collided with other vehicles. It would’ve been horrific.
