@CommodoreFan647 жыл бұрын
These days I have to agree preordering games is a bad idea, but back in the day when you knew a game was gonna be good it was a different story because game magazines would get them well in advance of release, and would have the reviews up well in advance so you could make your choice to preorder or not, but these days a lot of game companies do embargo on game reviews so they don't get released till the day the game gets released.

I pre order the shit out of games. I don't care what anyone says, you can't argue against 20% off from amazon. Yes that extends to two weeks from release as well, but I'm not going to wait or lose out on a 20% discount just for some principle that I don't even care about anyway.

I really loved the game but I think a little extra work on the controls could of made a huge difference.
@PedroSavioo7 жыл бұрын
I think that game needed at least one more year in development. The controls were not precise. Her moviments were limited, there were bugs in the animations and even in mouth movements. Sad... after this disaster, they sold it to SE/CD... :(

@PedroSavioo7 жыл бұрын
I didn't finish it either... i got it for ps2 and pc, maybe one day ill give it another try... somethings in this game really hurts my eyes. I also hate the "training" feature, pulling stuff to become stronger, that's stupid in a tr game... it's like a rpg, just like the 13/15 trs (which i dont like)
@fyora70397 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Eidos messed it up, they rushed the development and then blamed the devs later for an unfinished game. Core Design were great developers, they just needed more time for it. I still loved the game because it was something different compared to the other TR games, the atmosphere and story were great... so sad that many people got scared off by the camera, controls and bugs ^^ I mean yeah, it was annoying, but the game itself was really good and i would have loved to see it and possibly the whole trilogy finished.... All TR's after that ( by Crystal Dynamics) were so bad x.x Its getting somewhat better since RoTR though

Yeah, FF13, 13-2, and Lighting Returns are my guilty pleasures. I've 100%'d them all multiple times, and I have no idea why. 13-2 is better, but you only have 2 characters and a third revolving monster character, I like party variety in my JRPG's.
@jakublulek32616 жыл бұрын
I like Lighting Returns because time mechanics reminds me of PS3 Atelier games (Rorona, Totori and Meruru), it is pretty cool and the only FF13 game I ever completed. 13 and 13-2 are just boring and slow and uninteresting, and for starters, I am not big FF fan so I traded them years ago. Star Ocean 4 and Ethernal Sonata were my alternatives.

Paper Mario Sticker Star. All they needed to do was give us a standard attack, while all the special attacks could stay stickers, and it would've been much better. Having to use a limited resource on even the weakest enemies made fighting feel like a waste of items.

It had more issues than that. The story and writing was nonexistent/garbage, and the OST as well as the environments are forgettable. The visuals are the only good thing about that game.

Very true. Honestly though, I can deal with that stuff if the game is at least fun to play, and because of the battle system, it all felt like more work than it was worth. Color Splash fixed a lot of that, but was still a FAR cry from PM64 or TTYD.

FF 13 may be bad (I've only managed like 1 hour), but Lightning Returns is super underrated. I don't get what her problem is, the storymode, for the sake of being one, is around 20h, and yes, I like it's length BUT you have the non-story mode too, where you set the amounts of turns of how long you like to play, where you coul play around a hour or two. Her complain is denied by this fact :/
@endigopink7 жыл бұрын
Evilriku13 The story mode is incredibly long compared to Mario Party, yes. But you're not supposed to compare it to Mario Party! It's a J-RPG at core (albeit a very silly and simplistic one). Think of it as a 20 hour co-op J-RPG instead of a "party game" and you'll enjoy it waaay more!

One game I would pick is on the PS2 called GT Racer. I never knew of this game until all most a year ago when I found it from an online gaming store so I am unsure if it was a budget game or not. But that cover sucks you in and the back cover shows really cool screenshots. Then I get the game using reward credits I saved up, meaning it was free for me, and wait for it to arrive. Once it arrives I'm all excited, pop the disc in, and power on my system. The opening sequence is really good and has that Ridge Racer R4 flare...really awesome opening! Then I push start, select a car and track and wait. Once the track loads I am blown away by the graphics which look good. Then race starts and off I go! Doing good until the first turn and the car does not turn...it just slides across the track into a barrier. Thinking it was human error I keep going. New corner, same thing happens. GRR!!! I was disappointed. I kept trying to play it, giving it the benefit of doubt but I now know why the game looks brand new...it is almost I possible to play. The learning curve is with learning how to drift in the game but it is so difficult to do that it makes one want to rage quit. Never judge a game by its cover, even free ones.

Really enjoying your videos, thanks for all the hard work. I was however, dissappointed to hear you call out Capcom QA at 5:06 for auto modellista. From your videos, it's clear you have a game software background, so I'm sure you understand something about what can go on in a QA/Test lab at Capcom. As a SQA EA Alumni, I recall times when we had to endure the comments from game magazines where editors would blame QA for various issues with the release. Of course, in reality we had fought for the very things they had complained about, but there are so many other factors which could impact what you are trying to do, it really is a team, and I can assure you that from my experience anyway, you can bet QA/Test found or noted the issue, but for any number of reasons, it was not addressed. Not bad QA perse. Also, for context, please keep in mind, I'm talking about the late 90s / early 2000s, for this games era was around when I was working in that scene. Crazy times to be sure, we used to clock out > 100 hr weekly timesheets :) Anyway, don't mean to harp on it. Like I say, really enjoy your perspective, just wanted to share my experience as it can be pretty personal when you have poured part of your life into a game, only to have someone blame some game issues on your department specifically :/.

My personal list would be: Tekken 7 (bring back old characters) Bionic Commando (PS3) (plot holes and the ending/final boss) Last Guardian (takes way too long to evolve and movement is 1:1 rip off from ICO/SotC) *Overwatch* (lack of PvE and tutorial, competative system) Darksiders (poor combat mechanics, too easy and much backtracking) *Mighty No.9* (lacks and frame rate issues, some of the NPCs are just ...bad) Captain Toad - Treasure Tracker (the plot and especially the last level maze forever) Soul Calibur V (the story mode) Tekken 6 (the story mode) Death by Degrees (monotonous combat, relatively poor plot) Megaman's Soccer (poor AI and missing ending) Diablo 3 (if it wasn't so much of a clone of Diablo II) Ax Battler (save/PW system, ending) Prbably much more... I will have to check :P

"Tekken 7(bring back old characters)"?! Uh?so you didnt like it because some characters were missing? Outside of lei and ganryu they are all there but the clones.thats like saying "cod was suuuch a disappointment..it has like 49 guns but no m4? Horrible".. Just ..whaa...? "The last guardian movement is rip off from ico/shadow o the colossus"? So...shadows movement is a rip off of ico so you didnt like either then? You know its the exact same devs that made those games and they cant rip off themselves right? And "takes too long to EVOLVE"?!? Wtf does that even mean? The entire game has the same gameplay from start to finish and theres no "evolution". What are you talking about.
@overlordalfredo7 жыл бұрын
kato093 If you consider Anna, Marduk, Bruce or Julia/Jaycee “Clones“ than you have ansolutely never played any Tekken before. Most (not even all) of the missing chars can be found here: steamcommunity.com/app/389730/discussions/0/135511379837439269/ And regarding Last Guardian, I have played to death both ICO and SotC in PS2 and PS3 versions. Explored every little inch of each game and made it to Platinum Trophies in both games on PS3. ICO has a very different movement as SotC. But *Last Guardian uses the exact same walking jumping animations as ICO*, even the same clipping issues as the old PS2 game so no improvement here. While *climbing on Trico it is the exact same sprites used as in SotC* again with the same bugs and clipping issues. Of course I expected the devs to build on their older awesome work, but they did nothing to it but used another model for the exact same animations. You could easily replace him with Wanda or ICO because they move and act completely identical in respective situations. There are also a lot more issues I have with the listed games above, but these were my major complains.

I can see people's contention with Auto Modellista, but I personally love it. The controls and physics are trying to straddle the line between arcade and full-blown sim, so they're neither sim enough for hardcore sim players nor are they arcadey enough for arcade players. I personally love how the physics are difficult and require a delicate touch to the turning/acceleration/braking inputs. It's realistic that a car will oversteer and spin out like the cars do in this game. I love that if you don't take turns properly and maintain sufficient speed given your inputs, the car will slow to a halt.

I know why these games weren't great. Bob Cornhole wasn't in any of them, of course!

See... Even though FF13 was linear... I think that is exactly the reason I couldn't put it down. I never got lost, I never got derailed, It just kept pushing forward and forward and forward. Now that it's over and I beat it, the locations, music, and story keep coming back to me!

Dark cloud was great. I'm sorry. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

There is a diorama you crash down through towards the end of "Inside", it's in a glass case and you crash down through the ceiling into it. This diorama changes the meaning of the ending quite a bit, especially the meaning of the name of the game itself.

I actually thought Final Fantasy XIII was really good, especially towards the end. It's XIII-2 that needed to be better. Most people who complained about XIII forget that Final Fantasy X was the same way in the vein where it was linear, but XIII, in my opinion, is WAY better than XV.

Dark Cloud!? D: Aw man... that's actually one of my top five PS2 games that I own (and I own 100+ games for that system). My only gripe was that the other party members seemed to be tossed aside when it came to story every time you moved on to another area. Made them feel like nothing more than tools to use ae soon as you get them to leave their home with you. Oh and the final boss is bullshit hard with that over-powered unavoidable attack, but that still wasn't enough to call the whole game a disappointment.

Awesome video MJR! For me it was Heavenly Sword, if it didn't focus too much on the Sixaxis motion control, had slightly better controls, and more checkpoints...this game could have been a hit.

Assassin's Creed : Unity

Honestly yeah, it’s the most beautiful assassins creed, and you actually feel like an assassin, the parkour system is completely revamped, map size isn’t OVERLY huge like newer successors, and the world feels lived in.

Going for the jugular here with you MJ. Police Quest 3: The Kindred. That game could have been amazing if not for the ridiculous driving mechanics. I loved the story but ultimately couldn’t finish the game because of it.

Brutal Legend is the first one that came to my mind. That RTS stuff was absolutely terrible. The rest was amazing.
@RageKage147 жыл бұрын
Especially since all the preview stuff leading up to the release barely showed the RTS stuff. I picked up expecting a fun and funny hack and slash, and was put it off the second it was like "Okay, command troops". What?

You should do an episode on universally loved games that you were disappointed with or even couldn't stand. Here are a couple of examples from me (and yes, I'll probably get a lot of hate responses for this, but that's why I turned off my response notifications a long time ago :P). Also note that I'm around the same age as MetalJesus (possibly a bit older) and I only tried playing these games in the past year, so my impression of these games would have probably been a lot different had I played them back in the day: 1) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I spent the first 45 minutes wandering around the town looking for my sword. I didn't notice the little squiggle at the bottom of the map suggesting I look for a little cave entrance at the South part of town. It wasn't until I consulted a KZbin walkthrough that I finally figured that part out. Then I went into the tree and very quickly got stuck in the room where there was a ladder up high near the ceiling ("hmm... how do I get up there to climb up to the next room?") Once again I turned to KZbin and found out I had to shoot it with my slingshot to bring it down!? WTH... Who would ever think to do that?? So I slowly made my way through the rest of the cave, still consulting with KZbin from time to time for some of the non-intuitive puzzles, until I finally made it through the cave. At that point, I was like "screw this; my brain can't handle anymore." On a side note, I found that 'A Link to the Past' was much easier, as it did a much better job of easing you through the earlier parts of the game so that if you got stuck later it was no big deal to consult a guide. Ocarina was too tough to begin with and very quickly turned me off from playing the rest of the game. 2) Goldeneye. Yes, I'm going after one of the earliest loved FPS on the consoles. Nothing as specific here as with Ocarina; the game was just too long and boring overall, and way too difficult at times (and this was me playing at the easiest "Agent" level). Plus, whenever there were more than two bad guys on the screen, the framerate dropped to 10 or less. I know people herald the multiplayer aspect, but I've never been a fan of multiplayer games (especially in the FPS genre) and I can't stand to play more than 10 minutes of it with my friends before getting bored with it. Anyways, I'd love to hear some of your examples in a future episode. :) Cheers, RedVisor

Skyward Sword and its motion controls if you got rid of that and gave me a standard controller it would have been great.

I'm left handed and so even though I was enjoying the game since it was developed for right handed people it made it very hard for me to play it as every time I went to swing the sword it wouldn't hit the enemies.

I LOVED Auto Modelista. Cell Shaded racer? Hell Yes! Then I played it. Also, I wish there were more customizing options. But an OK game. Very entertaining video.

1. INSIDE was GREAT!!! 2. Need for Speed: The Run was AWFUL though. WAY too short. I finished it in like two hours, less than that even. Also way too easy and a quite forgetable story. So yeah... those shouldn't be included.

To be honest, i got bored after NfS Underground. Maybe NfS Shift was nice and an interesting change but i never got into NfS again. My favorite is still a tie between NfS 3 and NfS4. Regardless, NfS The Run could have been ok (probably at best) if they got rid of the quicktime crap, if the story was more interesting and those fucking loading times. While i managed to finish the game, i almost fell asleep because of how long it takes to load. Actually, i even got the time to take a piss during a fucking loading time.

Interpretation endings are one of an authors greatest tools and assets. Come on MRJ it's the same with song lyrics, Song writer of Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day explained the lyrics were about his father passing in 198x when many people gravitated that song to mourn for the losses of 9/11. Have an open interpretation can make a much bigger impact than simply giving a single answer to what something means in my opinion.
@flitter54007 жыл бұрын
Sure but the line is fine between that and being pretentious. In the case of this video, that game was just lame with the ending. It was clear it had a real point, the developers just could not be bothered to tell you. Being vauge and just not saying at all are really quite diffeent.

I remember when a friend of mine showed me the Japanese release of Auto Modellista. It was like they were trying to be two be Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer at the same time and failing to do either one. It was a interesting idea and like others have said, it was the closest to having an Initial D(probably the reason for the cel shaded look since it looked like a manga?) game without the actual license. At least until Sega released their first licensed Initial D driving games on the PS2 about 11 months after Auto Modellista. The US release was actually tweaked and patched to address some of the issues of the Japanese version. Capcom re-released the game in Japan under the name "Auto Modellista US- Tuned." But by then nobody cared and some shops refused to carry the game due to the previous version lackluster performance(they probably still had copies in the bargain bin). The original X-Box got a spiritual successor in 2003 that was only released in the US called "Group S Challenge."
