8 Games To Try If You Like 7 wonders

This video has convinced me I need to look T my games and see what I’m keeping/dropping to slim it down. I have 7 wonders, bunny kingdom, guild of merchant explorers, and kingdom builder-and I’m sure I don’t need ALL of them

I would not even have thought of that one in a list of even 100 games like 7 wonders. Edit: But then I saw the rest of the video and saw that Alex included Blood Rage, so I guess “like 7 wonders” can mean different things. To me it means drafting cards to build tableaus without a board

IMPERIUS and NEOM. NEOM is 10 times the game. IMPERIUS is 100 times the game. Both are cheap.

What is it that you hate about them if you don't mind me asking? Been thinking about picking up Blood Rage, but never have played 7 Wonders

@@davidhughes595 the card drafting system, at the first look it seems to be good but in fact it makes it impossible to mix experienced players with less experienced players. If you do not play this game in the same group it is just crap.

@@paleblue8922 Ahhh, that is good to know. It is lame if there's too high of a barrier to entry for newcomers to compete with experienced people when you have a game that could be a great time otherwise. Thanks for sharing - helpful for me to keep in mind in the decision to buy or not to buy!

@@davidhughes595 I agree that playing Bloodrage with newcomers is difficult (and it's also not really fun without the drafting); 7 Wonders is quite forgiving if one teaches a little bit beyond the basic rules: how many green cards there are, how strong the military cards in each age are, and how many of each type of resources one needs at most.

I feel like "Through the Ages" should have at least got an honorable mention. Yes it's not a card drafting game in the traditional sense, but it's the ultimate civ building board game with cards.

Without having played it yet, I would have expected Planet Unknown on the list. And I'm curious now whether Kingdom Builder would work with drafting. I don't really see why not. It should become a little more strategic and might take slightly longer. It's also funny that two out of the three games we disagree about the most are on this list. I really like IWW (particularly with the "campaign") and I'm less excited about Blood Rage than you are (the other one would be Cthulhu Death May Die, which I also think is just fine).

I am of the belief, attempts to "fix" 7 Wonders with alternatives like them undermine 7 Wonders as a Civ game. They may be 7 Wonder alternatives but aren't Civ games.

@BoardGameCo I consider 7 Wonders a Civ, light and arguably barely, game that uses a card drafting engine. Other games try to make 7 Wonders running smoother and more accessible, like Wonderful World and Hadara do. In doing this, they undermine being Civ games. I will tweak the wording of my reply above. 7 Wonder Duel may be an exception to this.
