Great video. Seeing Michael hitting the MP20's made me miss my MP32's. I'd like to learn more about how the narrower blade helped his turf interaction better than the wider sole. I would have guessed the opposite.

A proper club fitting. It just demonstrates to me how short changed the vast majority of us get when going to get fit. Most fitters wouldn't dream of putting an 8 handicap in a set of MP-20s and never think about combo sets either. I got fit for the 919 forged in the modus 120's and I've lost distance consistency with interaction with the turf, might have to look at these myself.

These 2 guys are unbelievable fitters and ball strikers. I wish I lived in Canada. I am a 3-5 hcp and have decided to get a proper club fitting. Never have had one in the past. Me and my wife are now proud owners of a golf course so will hopefully be playing more golf. Closest club fitter to me is club champion. I can only hope they are half as good as these gentlemen. I was 100%same- i strike blades better despite being an average player. thinner sole helped me massively. also having a "blade" made me really focus and concentrate on strike which i guess helped a lot too. incidentally i play in florida too- so i wonder if thats partly why i like the narrow sole too, since you mentioned florida turf.

Matt and Ian: why did you not explore keeping him with the MMC for his full set as he was very consistent with them? Is it because the MP-20 has a thinner sole to help with long-term turf interaction? Michael mentioned the feel of the blades was better, but perhaps consistency is more valuable than feel? I guess this varies from player to player. Thanks for the video and congratulations to Michael for the clubs and exceptional fitting!

I'm surprised that the HMB didn't enter the conversation. From all of the testing I've seen, the HMB appears to be the most beloved of the entire MP20 lineup. Visually, I'd drop the MMC from the lineup. It really doesn't look like it's a part of the family. It may be a long lost cousin. But, awesome for Michael to win the contest and to come up to TO for a fitting with the best in the business.

sole width is the reason HMB wasn't a good fit for Michael

The mass of the heads will be the same (or pretty similar), but the CG location of the blade will be much closer to the shaft, creating less moment (Mass * Distance). A larger moment due to CG being further of the shaft will create more toe droop, just like we see in the video (or the shorter CG distance drooping less, in the case of the MP20). A very interesting observation of physics in action! This CG dimension also has some interesting effects on the clubheads resistance to rotation about the shaft axis (rotational MOI).

After seeing this and reading comments I realize the fitting I had in 1978 will have no bearing on anything I do today because the heads and shafts are all so different. I thought my lie, length, and kick point would remain fairly constant over the years, despite the components.

Interesting fitting. This and Mark Crossfields recent video on "Improvement Irons vs Blades" taking D-Loft into the equation is making me seriously question what type of irons I should go for next, even as a high handicapper. My iron strike is pretty good in terms of location. The "turf interaction" comment from Ian is an eye-opener. Interested to see through the rest of the fit if you investigate whether it would be worth Michael looking at Hybrids in the 4 and 5 instead of the irons.
