Billy didn't get released because of Dewey, he got released because Stu (as the killer) called Sidney at Tatum's house and told her Billy wasn't the killer

Plus, even if Dewey had a "thing" for Sidney, he probably got over it quickly, since he took a liking to Gail Weathers really quick.

The aliens being demons makes a lot of sense. The aliens seemed pretty out-of-place in the not-so subtle religious tone of the movie. Also, any beings capable of space travel would not choose to invade a planet that consists of 70% toxic substance.
@DonCapiche

It wasn't spouse to be a religion vs. science movie, it was just very poorly done.They **ARE** aliens, the question your suppose to ask is weather the existence of aliens matters in a religious sense. They just wrote themselves into a corner at the end and tried to retro fit it. #mnightshamalan

I don't think it was "supposed" to be anything of the kind. And why are you so sure they *are* aliens?
@Sky-si1iv
@Sky-si1iv 7 жыл бұрын
But in the movie, they talk about birds mysteriously falling from the sky. This disproves they're demons because A: they're aliens flying around in spaceships and B: it does in fact show alien software. I've heard another theory that the aliens were desperate so they attacked anyway and even left in a big hurry (it said they left some of their wounded behind); or, simply, they'd never encountered water before. They're aliens, after all.

Jenna Chase There were weeks of sightings. Meaning they had sent scouts to learn the lay of the land, as you would ahead of planning an attack. In short, still bad movie logic.

That's not a "fan theory" for Jacob's Ladder, *that's literally just the plot of the movie.* It is supposed to be a twist ending, showing that he died in vietnam, and none of the crazy events of the movie actually happened in the real world; They happened while Tim Robbins' character was dying on the table.

Delirus Innominata I dunno, lights hovering above a city with enough mass to crush in a bird skull when they're run into and no-one knows what they are certain sound Unidentified Flying Objects to me. But, how exactly would you define them? Unidentified Flying Object =/= Alien Spacecraft.

@Gakusangi 7 жыл бұрын
Delirus Innominata Which is all I meant, the video claimed there was no presence of them or reference of them in the movie and that was a false statement, they apparently forgot about that scene. Whether it's extraterrestrial in origin or not doesn't matter, UFO's were present. It was also a factor in why the the average viewer (as you've pointed out) accepted them to be aliens and not demons.

Wait....how is the Jacob's Ladder one a theory? That's just what that whole movie is supposed to be about. Theories are alternate ways of looking at a movie and its themes, but Jacob's Ladder is BLATANTLY about purgatory, especially when you see him die in the end scene.

On the subject of The Mist ending, the irony is that if they'd never left and they'd never turned on each other, the mist would have lifted and everyone would have been saved. They drove for who knows how long...hours? half a day? It's disgusting to think the mist may have begun to clear behind them, but they kept driving away from it, and it wasn't until they ran out of gas, and he took the time to shoot everyone, the army, who were following the dissipating mist on major thorough fares, or were actually the ones clearing it, little by little. The fact that Melissa McBride is on the one army truck suggests that one truck came from the same town and was right behind them, meaning the mist had cleared before hand. It's not a bad theory, other than the fact the movies own logic disproves it. I am not sure why some people dislike this movie. Maybe because it's such a downer? Seems out of nowhere? I thought it was a brilliant ending and even King himself wishes he'd thought of it. Melissa McBride's character leaves when The Mist happens to protect her children and no one will escort her and even Thomas Jane refuses saying 'Lady, I got my own kid'. Well, not anymore you don't. The ending fit in perfectly with the films theme of morality.

How about the theory for the last Blair Witch movie from 2016 (I know nobody besides me liked that movie)? Its says that the long limbed creature actually isnt the witch but Heather, who got deformed by the witch (who by the way, is a much more powerful entity without a physical body). Lane was also used by the witch the whole time, to lure the group into the woods. He got the video material from the witch, or exactly from the future, when Lisa is running through the house. So it was the material from her camera all the time.

First time I saw "Scream" I thought Dewy was the killer. I guess we were supposed to since, before the final part, he's not around when the killer is (even when the killer calls on the phone) and in that one part where the killer is in the house and Sydney goes running out the door he's right there holding the mask. Then the last part happens and ruins the idea. However I like the idea of him being the never discovered third killer. :)

McCready knows he has to waste Childs with the flamethrower to be sure, so he's relieved when he finds out he's about to roast the Thing and not his buddy. That's why he chuckles. Monster Childs forgot they're not supposed to share food/drink due to contamination, or knows he has nothing to fear cause he IS the Thing and slipped up. Brilliant ending. Also Childs clothes change from before/after the open door scene by the generator room.

The prequel Thing that came out several years ago actually proved that Childs was human. The Thing can't recreate inorganic things like jewelry or a pacemaker when it transforms into a human body. Yeah, at the very end, MacCready comes screaming in *SPOILER ALERT* on a helicopter to rescue the main player and together you guys go shooting the final boss. Childs is seen frozen to death at the very early stages of the game. Not too sure which is canon, in regards to Norwegian infection to American. I do like the ending of the 'sequel' prequel and how it tied the two films together. In the prequel, the one guy in the truck who was infected (forgot the name)... he had an earring, just on the wrong side. Yeah, the thing can't recreate inorganic thing, but that does not mean that it cannot still put them on his body, and which it's shapeshift ability, it should be even easier to place these things, it just have to remember where they actually belong... AND SOURCE PLEASE! Did John really said that the game is canon? It's a guilty pleasure of mine, but the story gets freakin stupid, so how can it be canon?

While many of the theories were new to me, I actually thought the Jacob's ladder theory as I watched it for the first time in the theatre upon its release. I was less concerned about the "real time"aspect, however, accepting purgatory as more of a dreamlike state than a physical - albeit otherworldly - state. The Mist theory makes total sense. I am an atheist, so I don't necessarily relish that Mrs. Carmedy was right, but hey, its fiction, like The Exorcist and The Omen. It's an amazing film now made even better with an ending that actually has meaning rather than just tragedy. Thomas Jane is very underrated.

Even if she was right doesn't mean that she was right about WHY it would work. I've heard theories tying the things in movie to the Cthulhu mythology (tentacles are a always a dead give away) so the 'sacrifice' could be to the old ones. Hell, if you go that way one of them could've been whispering to her and using her religion against her.

I thought at the time that the creatures were clearly Lovecraft inspired, so naturally I really appreciate the idea that, while Carmedy may have believed her "inspiration" was biblical, the film's reality was somewhat different. Of course, the film itself doesnt really provide enough to reach this conclusively, but it leaves enough room for the possibility. I would enjoy seeing the film again armed with these ideas.

Actually, the third killer in Scream was Sydney's brother... they covered that in the third movie. Also, the "bottle of Scotch" that was gasoline concept was the actual concept. Which was backed up by not only Kurt Russell, but also John Carpenter. Apparently Russell was holding the flamethrower just out of frame, hence his laughing.

Except what about the experiences from around the world? Like the alien at the birthday party? Or M. Night's character trapping one in the closet? Couldn't it pass through it? The lights in the sky on the T.V.? The crop circles? Why would the demons make crop circles? Why make people think they were aliens? What difference does it make? Idk. It just raises too many questions (obviously :P) for me. But it is an interesting thought as to why water of all things hurts them.
@Okulele-d4t
@Okulele-d4t 7 жыл бұрын
Rocky Otter thats the whole point of this movie! it might be aliens, but whats important is that to our hero, an Ex-priest who lost faith in god, it could be interpreted as demons. they could be real alien spices whos weakness is water. but to Graham it is "water blessed by angel(he said Bo was like angel and she took a sip of those cups of water)" that defeats them. why not demons? this is a movie about belief, and belief is connecting meaningless random dots and giving it a whole new name. idk. maybe aliens ARE demons. and vice versa. ancient folks who got attacked by Extraterrestrial beings wrote that demon part in the bible... (too far fetched?)
@RockyOtter
@RockyOtter 7 жыл бұрын
I understand the point you're making, and I'm not meaning it to sound like I'm attacking anyone who follows the theory. It's a fun little thought, and connecting dots in plots is one of the reasons movies are made. I'm just saying to me, people are connecting the dots to draw a rabbit, and I'm drawing a sideways duck.

I posted a similar theory about Dewey on Reddit a while back. However, in mine, he wasn't actually in on the events of the first movie, but he changed after going through all those horrible things, and became the ringleader in the rest of the films. His demeanor is such that nobody would ever suspect him. Also, in every movie there is a scene with Dewey and the killer in the same place without the killer attacking him. Also, any time the killer does attack him, there is always someone there to witness it. Finally, he's always incapacitated when the final showdown between the killer and Sidney takes place. This could be because he is waiting to see who wins, so he won't be suspected if Sidney wins, and the killer can't implicate him if he was helping Sidney.

I don't think you guys really get the point WhatCulture was making. They weren't suggesting that the Purgatory interpretation was the 'creepy fan theory' (that's probably the default interpretation amongst Yanks, what with their religious cultural saturation) but that the 'realtime purgatory' interpretation was somehow creepier. As the whole film is from Tim Robbins' perspective, what difference does it make whether 6 years or 6 minutes passed in the external world? What is the meaningful difference between the last scene being him remembering his death or him experiencing it?
@snaxx82
@snaxx82 7 жыл бұрын
this is actually exactly the way I perceived it, the film starts in vietnam, then comes the "purgatory" bit (whether real life experience, future or just a mumbo jumbo created by his mind, then it is revealed he died. i agree with chips that the sensation of time is irrelevant for him during his "moments" of death.

At 1:28 you say it comes down to Childs and MacReady while showing Nauls and MacReady. That scene is from when they go to check on Blair. - Doesn't change your point but just felt it needed saying. So in terms of Childs or MacReady being human or Thing I like that there is no definitive answer. They may be suspicious of each other but they are so exhausted and the chance of rescue so bleak that it barely matters anymore. The prequel gives some clues and the game and comic book give their own answers but none of it really matters. For those interested : SPOILERS -------- Prequel - The Thing can't form artificial objects, Childs has an earing. Childs - Human, MacReady - ? Game - Childs body is found, MacReady pilots your character out - Childs - Likely Human, MacReady - ? (does fight the Thing but so do others) Comic - Childs and MacReady both pass the blood/flame test - Neither were the Thing

Plus, does anybody actually believe that a pre 2000s horror movie would end with a black guy surviving?! Lol.... Don't get me wrong though. To be fair, this film was very racially progressive for its time and showed true bravery in doing so. I mean, the black guy didn't even die first. A very brave and unprecedented decision by the film makers but there is only so much they could do.

There's a deleted moment in Jacob's Ladder near the end where Jacob unmasks Jezebel to find himself underneath, smiling sweetly. If that had been left in, I think the ending would be less ambiguous, since Jez was a stabilizing figure of comfort during the film, and was helping to normalize his life in limbo.

With regards to Childs, we then see MacCready lean down a bit. It's out of the shot. But the implication is that he's slowly reaching for the flame-thrower to kill the Thing in front of him as Childs. Before he then freezes to death. Any group finding his frozen body will assume MacCready went insane and murdered everyone.

Child's is the alien, but not because of the whiskey. If you look closely at the end of the movie, as Child's and Mac Cready sit out side, you notice that Mac Cready's breath can be seen, proving he's human. You can't see Child's breath.

1:48 Uh... Yes, it does. The Thing copies the host in their entirety. Memories, dreams, sensations -- all of it. It doesn't just pretend to be someone, it actually emulates the host's brain so it doesn't have to put any effort into it. How else could it act so perfect? And when it's discovered, it terminates the emulation and takes full control. As such, it would be able to taste if the drink was wrong and act accordingly. Just like a human.

It's an interesting theory but agreed, the child sacrifice wouldn't have done anything. The woman prophet is theorized to actually be a servant (knowingly or unknowingly) of the evil god/presence that recurs in all his novels. This is theorized because of the fact the one bug lands on her but doesn't attack her. The original ending didn't even end with the dude killing everyone, instead opting for a nice ending since they escaped the supermarket and rode off in the direction of hope. SK loved the movie version though and they went with it because it was so gut wrenching to watch.

You forgot VALENTINE. Dorothy was also a killer. In the movie, if you watch at the beginning. Dorothy & Jeremy are kissing under the bleachers. When the other kids discover them, Dorothy says because he's unpopular, Jeremy forced her, so the kids mercilessly beat him up. Years later he gets revenge against Dorothy's friends. She has a fight with her friends (why should the fat girl get a turn). The revenge takes place at her house. At the end she's wearing the Valentine killer costume but falls down the stairs with Kate. When he sits up. Kate's boyfriends shoots her and it's revealed to be Dorothy, even though as the movie closes the bloody nose reveals it's Kate's boyfriend. But the theory says that he told Dorothy we can be together, so she became his accomplice, even though he double crossed her in the end, thus getting rid of the only person who knew he was the killer. Watch the movie and see if you don't agree with me. I remember the whole thing was here on KZbin at one time.
