People, please stop with the negative comments... I understand that everyone has their own opinions about hair color choices, but it’s important to remember that beauty and self-expression are incredibly personal. The stylist likely worked closely with the client to achieve a look that she felt confident and happy with. While going blonde from dark hair can be a challenging process, many people choose to take that journey because it makes them feel great-and that’s what really matters. Hair is an ever-evolving canvas, and as long as the person wearing it loves the result, that’s what counts. Instead of focusing on why someone “shouldn’t” do something, let’s celebrate the fact that they’re embracing a style that resonates with them. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful in their own way, without judgment or criticism.

She asked the question. We answered it, favorable or not. Perhaps she shouldn't ask if she can't handle people's answers? Just because you think one way, doesn't mean we all do. That's a harsh bit of reality you should try and understand.
@NK-wk8zv
@NK-wk8zv Ай бұрын
@@Aurora_262 I understand your perspective, and it’s absolutely fair that everyone has different opinions. However, my point was never to suggest that people shouldn’t answer a question honestly-it’s about how we choose to express those opinions. Offering constructive feedback is one thing, but delivering it in a way that feels dismissive or overly critical can undermine the confidence of the person asking. Being honest doesn’t mean we have to be harsh; kindness and respect go a long way, even when we disagree. It’s important to recognize that not everyone processes feedback the same way, and approaching discussions with empathy fosters a better environment for meaningful conversations. Encouraging individuality and self-expression doesn’t mean ignoring differing opinions-it simply means sharing them thoughtfully. At the end of the day, a little compassion can make all the difference. I think you should try to understand that too.

If she pays $1000 every eight months, then it’s the same as me bleaching my black roots (Asian hair) every 6-8 weeks. It’s actually a bit cheaper. Bleaching black hair is not financially viable for everyone. My mum kindly gives me $100 very time I retouch my roots. My own monthly wage is not enough to support my regular trips to the salon. I love this video! In regard to pricing, if the client knows the rate ahead of time, it’s fair! They are happy to pay it because it is worth it to them. I hope you don’t ever feel like you have to justify why your prices are set how they are! It’s a business. We only get to take home a percentage. We have to pay thousands in rent and product per MONTH. The general public that would be upset with $1000 hair doesn’t understand that not every stylist can do this, your client chose you (she could go anywhere at any price point), and she agreed to the price before booking. Anyway, you are worth every penny! Great job!

It amazes me how people underestimate that time is valuable. Seeing the sheer amount of hair your client has coupled with the darkness of her roots, it was definitely a high risk situation. 8 hours of complete devotion to one client is definitely back breaking and exhausting. @@starlite556you are clearly upset bc you can't afford a service like this and don't understand what goes into it. Why should a hairdresser pay to do your hair? That's ludicrous! Supplies, rent, etc factor into our pricing as they well should. We are also one of the only careers that are constantly taking new classes that come out of our own pockets and learning new ways to do better for you all. We take pride in our work and it's really discouraging when people don't value it the way they should. Usually they don't get it until they totally wreck their own hair then come to you to fix it (which we happily do, if it's possible at that point) and you have no idea what goes into that. The stress, the skill, the process, the products, the time, the way our hands and backs and becks are aching when we're done. And we don't charge more to charge more, we deserve to make enough to live just like the next person. People have no idea how much their really is to learn about hair, it would blow your mind. And, we're constantly learning more and adapting new techniques to stay relevant. Your comment was very unhelpful and uneducated. This hairdresser could charge wayy more too, she's AMAZING.

Great job! Don't apologize for your prices. In 8 hours you could have 3 or 4 customers depending on what service you do. It will be the same and you should get your products paid for that you use for the service. It can't be compared to a box dye from the drugstore for 10 dollars.

It's fair to say that this was a completely valid transaction (for the time and expertise), she chose this particular colourist, she agreed to the price, and she sat in the chair for the length of time necessary. I have no issue with that - although I do think that people in the hair industry take their customers for a ride; I would never pay 1k for a root touch up (personally, I don't have disposable income like that and couldn't justify it). But let's not forget that professional bleach, dye, and toner is gatekept behind owning a business related to hair. Colourists need to stop acting high and mighty with the 'ew, box dye, I can't believe anyone would do that' narrative when they have the market fixed in their favour. If those products were made available to everyone then a % of their clients would definitely be lost. It comes across as elitist - and to be honest if I were to get my hair done professionally and found they were giving me the 'stink face' when I mention box dye, the transaction would be over and I'm leaving. Sorry I can't buy professional brand dye and toner because it keeps your trade alive (and allows you to bag 1k from a single days work).

In the last few years of my long career, I have become more specialized in bleach work and correction. I didn't pursue it, but it came to me. And I enjoy your videos and have incorporated some of your techniques. I think 1k for 8 hours is quite reasonable, just for quantity and the banding effort. My trick is to encourage frequency if people get in within 4-5 weeks they get a very good price. It takes 2 hours from roots to style, trim every other visit. It saves me from needing 6 hours and 500+ every 12 weeks. I figure I make about the same amount of money, I work the same amount of hours, but it is less work and less time over all. And it reduces the chance of banding when working with 1/2-3/4" roots. Looks lovely and I always enjoying learning from you. Thank you

If someone is willingly to pay that much than let them. But be aware that her $140 per hour is the equivalent to a physician's salary in OB-GYN, family medicine, Pediatrics, Rheumatology, Critical Care, Psychiatry, Immunology etc... I don't get the platinum "Tagarian" blonde trend at all! Generally I don't get how you rather have blonde hair than healthy hair. In my opinion it always looks awful, when the hair is damaged. Honestly… you are worth that amount. I have decently short hair/medium length. I have had red box dye on my hair for 30 years plus. I am by far not rich but when it comes to my hair as a female, it means a lot to me. I spent my teen years messing it up and I don’t have to do that now that I am a working adult. Back to my story, I went in to have my hair stripped of as much of that 30 years of coloring was left (probably only the last 3-5 years honestly) but it was a LONG process and very tedious. My stylist is very competent and knowledgeable yet she was doing strand tests and getting colleagues input as my hair was very damaged as well. She worked on my hair for 7 and a half hours to get me down to a nice light brown color with a lot of blonde highlights. It looked wonderful and I knew what she was charging prior. I paid a lot if I were just getting color but $540 was not a lot considering if you broke it up, I had about 4-5 different coloring processes to get me there. One color process at most salons is $100 plus. I was thankful and she worked hard and was on her feet for ages. You take chances when you’re CORRECTING and not just coloring. So many do not understand that situation. They are two totally different things. If you don’t want to spend that on your hair, then don’t , but trust me, if you want it done right and not lose all of your hair, then it’s 100% worth it!!!

Fellow hairdresser here, at my salon we charge $100 a hour plus add ons. Your prices are spot on! You didn't go to school and get your license and have 10yrs behind the chair for pennies! I think you did an amazing job. The client was happy. The only advice I have would be to do a bleach wash at the bowl to brighten the banding and bring it up more. Then I would do a pretone on the mids to almost the ends. With either a tonning shampoo or conditioner, this will fill the hair. That way you don't have to try and fill and tone at the same time. I hope that makes sense. I've done this many times and I feel you get a better result in the end. Overall I think you did an amazing job, totally enjoy your videos!

It’s definitely damaged but it’s also clearly curly. When she applied the k18 the roots started to go wavy, so I think this is just brushed or blown out natural curls which gives the appearance of frizzy damaged hay-like hair, but it’s not that bad in reality

I don't get my hair done so I'm not familiar with pricing. I can say though that I don't wanna hear another dog grooming client of mine complain ever again about me charging $100 for their 100lbs doodle that fought me the whole service and took 2.5hrs if they also have professionally bleached hair.

I love love love that you talk through what being a hairstylist is like. I have struggled to go to hairstylists because of my tiny thin hair and my crazy sensitive scalp. So, this helps me feel better about cutting my own hair, learning how to color my own hair, etc. If I had the money to find a good stylist, that would be great and I could pay a specialist. This makes me realize that I am basically needing to do color correction to my own hair, and with local rates as well, it could be more than I would be willing to pay. Love watching your videos and how much you explain on what you are doing. You are amazing at your craft! 😊

Hair is a trade, and you're a rock star! I see the way you flutter around these heads like a hummingbird, never a moment wasted, always checking and correcting and scraping color, and for HOOOUUURRSS at a time! You pack so much information into these long videos, I can only imagine that you're telling your clients the same things. I know talking abt pricing is uncomfortable, but it's also SO IMPORTANT that we change the script so that we can move away from people having this idea of convenience-based, set prices in their mind, where anything that goes beyond "what they THINK you should be charging" is suddenly absolutely appalling.

I didn't read any of the bad comments, but people maybe don't understand those are standard prices in vancouver. I got a hair cut with mask and styling and paid 300$. Also if the client is ok then , good for the stylist! Everyone has the right to charge for their work what they are worth it. This work was incredible, with the amount of damage she had and hair, wow, it came out way better than what I expected 🎉

Great job! I wish I would have gone to school, I have a natural attraction to coloring/cutting hair and sometimes I see a woman and think, "How amazing she would look with this xyz and a little of that..." I do cut hair for my neighbors and some friends and when they screw up their color they come to me. Only thing: I have to be in the mood. If not, it's just not fun for me. I could not imagine waking up and having to do hair all day. But when in the mood...!!!

F the people who complain about the price. Originally I was like damn, a 1000 for that old job? But no, it was for the color correction and then it made sense to me. Your work is amazing and I think people who judge the pricing have never taken the time to do something with as much precision and care as you do. Personally, I can’t afford to pay 1000 to have someone else do my hair but if I could then I would totally do it to fix my hair. I feel like it’s totally justified how much you charge.

A wonderful result! The roots truly ended up with such a perfect lift. The pricing is totally reasonable. Especially from a business point of view. Of course almost $1000 is a lot of money but it's also a big and time consuming service. And in the end your clients know that beforehand. People also don't buy cars expecting it to cost $200. We all know cars are expensive. Just like a full day service is expensive. At least in my opinion.

Do we really have to say "her hair her choice?" Nope. I only read a few of the comments. So I will say- What wonderful thick hair! The ending result is great. the client is so pretty, too! The prices... well I have paid over $300 for a single appointment, and I was getting high and low lights done on my very long curly hair. AND it was not a full 8 hours. So if the client is aware and chooses to pay that... Her choice, and the stylist with expertise to fix a hair issue can charge what she wants. My daughter has been a Stylist (a hairapist really) for over a year, not long, but it is wonderful to see her gaining experience and skills. And because I should: if I sit in her chair for a service, I pay for it. it is worth it because she is at work. I appreciate her time and her skill. If it is at home that is another story. But again, it comes down to this-It's my hair. My choice.
